I would def come back for the sandwich, super flavorful and yummy! The chicken karage was fried and crispy but still juicy and so much flavors. Overall my favorite thing that we purchased. As far as the matcha it was good but I def prefer real fruit for my strawberry matcha over strawberry cream.

My favorite matcha I've had in SF so far! Waited about 10 minutes to order on a Saturday around 1PM and waited another 5-10 mins for our drinks. Seating was full so we took it to go. Sadly wasn't hungry enough to try their sandos or onigiri but hopefully next time! I will definitely stop by on my next trip to SF :) Matcha latte with strawberry cream (5/5): matcha is STRONG and not bitter. The strawberry cream is fragrant, perfectly sweet and not overpowering the matcha Matcha latte with matcha cream (4.5/5): matcha on matcha had me buzzed lol, but it was super strong and rich. Not too sweet but a little sweeter once it mixed together

Strawberry cold foam matcha latte & mixed fruit and cream

I love the strawberry cold foam matcha latte. ! It's delicious! 10/10 highly recommended The mixed fruit sando is a no go I immediately spit it out ha! Its awful! very disappointing however to each its own, its white bread and it has that sort of taste... try it but I wasn't a fan. Service was fast! Always a crowd its very popular. Parking is hard, try parking a few blocks away ! Wishing you the best of luck !

This place is packed and for good reason! A line out the door indicated that this was a good place to try. You line up and are presented with 8 different types of onigiri. We got the salmon, crab, spam musubi, and the curry. All were great and what you would expect. The crab was nice and creamy and the curry was nicely done. The rice itself was fluffy, sticky, and uncrushed. We also got the pineapple tonkatsu sando which had red cabbage, pineapple, tonkatsu, and they called it pineapple sauce but kinda like sweet and sour and ketchup. Overall great because the pork was not dry and each element brought acid and crunch to the soft pillowy bread. The mixed fruit sando was good because it had fruit all the way to the back of it. Most places only put fruit for the presentation side. The cream was thick and sweet which played nicely with the sweet milk bread. As for the drinks, we got the strawberry matcha and the hojicha with cheese cream, both less sweet. The matcha comes from the brand "Matchaful" and is light and grassy in flavor. The hojicha was nice and earthy. The presentation of each dish was peak and the service was super fast and friendly. I'd come back here! It's a great place to grab food to go then have a short drive/ walk to the Golden Gate Park. Perfect for date food.

Very quick service and sandwiches were expertly prepared. No crust on the white bread which was delightful. It was literally a flavor bomb to eat. Parking may be difficult, went across Lincoln ave and found a free spot in the park.

jasmine tea with matcha cold foam, black sesame matcha

I usually don't really like black sesame matchas that much tbh because the black sesame always overpowers the matcha, but for some reason I was craving one today. I don't think it's even on their menu, they only have a black sesame latte, but I asked the cashier if they could make it a matcha and she was so kind to say yes!! And this one I could actually taste the matcha because it was stronggg!! The jasmine tea with matcha cold foam was also solidd! I could taste both the jasmine and the matcha and the foam was not cheesy at all :) Bonus points for the line moving SO FAST?! Like it was a Sunday, line was out the door, I thought it would take at least 30-45 mins, but it only took us 15 mins to order AND get our drinks like dayamm. Parking is a nightmare though...

Cute little spot! The sandwiches are tasty - I had the tonkatsu w pineapple and enjoyed it! It was a very classic Japanese sandwich. My only feedback is that it's a bit pricey for what it is and the amount of food you get. The matcha latte was very refreshing! I enjoyed that. I went on a Sunday morning so it was busy - there was ~10min wait In line and another ~15min wait for the food Staff were all friendly!

The fish sando was really good. Chicken katsu sando was average. Onigiris weren't good.

Sandos were pretty good, but onigiris were poorly executed. Fish sando was a 4 out of 5. Fish was nicely fried, lightly seasoned, and fit perfectly in the pillowed breads. Chicken katsu was a 3.5 out of 5. I really liked the dark meat, but they added fried green beans or some tempura veggie?! It just didn't complement well. I ended up saving a small piece to microwave the next morning. Held well under the microwave! Now for the onigiris - I got two of their $8.50 onigiris. The eel and salmon onigiris. These weren't worth $8.50..maybe not even $3.50 because the rice was super dried and tasted old. I wouldn't be surprised if these were made the day before. If I ever go back, I'd get the fish sando again and maybe try a matcha drink.

Love that they opened in the Sunset!! The line moves fast, and they have a great selection of drinks and onigiris. Strawberry matcha: very creamy with a light strawberry flavor. I appreciate the strong matcha, but it's also a bit grainy.

Ive been here a few times before but haven't gone back in a while and I can say their quality is consistent!! I always get the chicken sando and it is always flavorful plus the chicken is juicy. The strawberry matcha was good as well but I do prefer stronger matcha flavor. The hojicha though was definitely my preferred flavor profile. If youve ever had Rockys matcha, it tastes like that! The employees are also very quick and had our food ready super fast despite a huge rush. Seating is pretty limited but there are a lot of nice areas around to take your food to aswell. Would definitely recommend.

    Tonkotsu pineapple Sando

We stopped here for lunch after a long walk. I wasn't willing to line up when it first opened a few months ago. There's always a line if sorts but it moves quickly. If you come in a weekend, the line is even worse. We ordered 2 dinks - Americano because they don't make any with mocha and a matcha latte. Both were very good. Hubby tried the tonkotsu pineapple Sando, and didn't like it for several reasons. He thought the pork was too thick and not pounded flat, although the meat was cooked correctly and not dry. He thought the pineapple didn't add anything to the sandwich and was too thick and didn't like the sauce. I tried the unagi onigiri, it was delicious but overpriced for $8.50. I think in the future, I'd come back only for the onigiri as there's a variety, and matcha. You can see the staff by the window, making the onigiri.

strawberry sando, chicken sando, unagi onigiri, matcha lattes with strawberry cream

We came in on Saturday afternoon, and the line wasn't too long. We were able to order within 15 minutes, and our food was ready around 10 minutes later! We got the chicken filet karage sando, strawberry cream sando, unagi onigiri, mushroom onigiri, and matcha lattes with strawberry cream. The chicken filet karage was savory and lightly crispy. The strawberry sando was lightly sweet with fluffy cream. The unagi onigiri was really tasty and savory. My friend got the mushroom and pickled daikon onigiri and she liked it. The matcha lattes were not too sweet and the strawberry cream gave it a light fruity taste. I typically don't go for fruit matcha lattes since they tend to curdle, but having it as a cream top prevented that! I like that the sandos came in two pieces, so then we could share one savory and one sweet sando! The place is small with limited seating, so definitely be on the lookout. Very casual chill spot to catch up with friends. Otherwise, this is a good spot to do grab and go for a sando and matcha latte!

    Shiso salmon onigiri
    Rovingaile P.

Great matcha and munch spot :) Big fan of their onigiris and also tried their iced matcha latte with pistachio cream. The drink is a solid 8.9/10 (regular sweet with almond milk) with great blend of nuttiness and sweetness, just wish the matcha was a tad bit stronger. I've tried their shiso unagi, shiso beef, shiso salmon, miso snow crab, and mushroom and pickled daison. Shiso salmon was my favorite given great portion of fish and roe, great pickling on the inside, and the shiso giving a fresh element. Shiso unagi is my second favorite, but wishing eel flavor is more. Beef and snow crab were pretty good! The mushroom and pickled daikon is also good but prefer it combined with the other fish for an elevated flavor profile.

    Sando and drink menu.

They explained that the flight includes an espresso shot, espresso shot with milk, hot coffee, and iced coffee. I hadn't had a straight espresso shot before, so this wasn't for me personally just because it was so overpowering. I enjoyed the other three though. There is indoor and outdoor seating; I was able to grab an empty spot late in the morning on a weekend, but I don't think seating is always readily available. It's not a huge space.

At 11 am on a Sunday they were out of their best- black sesame Kouign Amann and the Raspberry Almond Croissant, which I took care of by paying a visit to Juniper bakery (sister business) later in the day. The Mocha with the house made nut milk fell flat. It needed something. I am not a fan of syrupy coffees and appreciate the more purist approach but this one just didn't do anything for me. The chai latte which I would never order was actually the best chai latte I have ever had, it was smooth like silk. Maybe I just had the wrong coffee order. Besides that, got the hot chocolate and the coffee tasting. I was surprised there was no explanation provided with the coffee- I figured it's all Honduran but an overview of some sort would have helped. I enjoyed all the coffees in there except the latte. Will visit again, earlier in the day so they are not out of their best sellers and try a different order.

I have gone to Blackbird a handful of times and have enjoyed the experience each time. Blackbird is primarily a bookstore, but they do have an outdoor window where you can order drinks ranging from matcha (Rocky's Matcha, if you're curious about which brand they use), lattes, and tea. They also carry a good amount of pastries (even mid-day, they have a lot of goodies), which I really appreciated. When you order your drink, you have to enter inside the bookstore to wait for your drink to be called, but you can take the time to stroll around and look at their book selection and trinkets. Heads up: the seating here is limited but very lovely. Inside, there are a couple of community tables, but their outdoor area is absolutely magical, with lush greenery and benches for you to enjoy your drinks. This time around, I got one of their seasonal drinks, a honey lavender vanilla latte, and I paired it with an Earl Grey olive oil loaf. The portion of the pastry was generous and moist, while the icing was not too sweet. Overall, a great pick for a cafe if you're in the area.
