Tacos al pastor and fish taco

Experience was much better this time around! We had good, attentive servers that offered suggestions and were quick and efficient. The tacos were tasty and they had a good amount of tables outside to enjoy the food in the beautiful spring sunshine.

We enjoyed our time at Taco Vino in Corvallis, a popular spot near the OSU campus, with one major caveat. With its combination of tasty tacos, drinks and a celebratory atmosphere, it's easy to see why this place is popular in a university town, with wait times on the weekends pulling in up to one hour waits. I ordered a steak taco and a grilled steelhead trout taco, the daily special. We additionally ordered carnitas tacos. From a service perspective, we had a misfire. One item, an agua Fresca (passion fruit?) that our waiter recommended, turned out to be incredibly sour. Possibly it was out of season. It's rare that I send an item back, but when it happens, most places handle it graciously. Here, unfortunately, telling the waiter my pucker-y agua fresca didn't taste good, received an initial refusal back from the owner to send back the drink, & an offer that I keep the drink, and simple syrup be added to sweeten it, which wasn't something I was excited for, given the tart bite of my first sip. But I agreed, at their insistence, to try that, finding it still incredibly sour. The initial refusal to make things right, right off the bat, didn't leave a positive impression.

My wife loved this place. When she was going through treatments, we'd come here two or three times a week. And we lived thirty miles away. Today, on her anniversary, I came back for the first time. And this time I ate inside (we usually ate in the car.) First off, the staff here are always amazing. I think it's usually OSU students, so it may rotate, but everyone is always super friendly and welcoming. So they hire a culture and a personality fit. Their tacos are always good, and the selection rotates with their specials, however they have a good solid list of ones always available. My wife always loved the Beet tacos, which were vegan. I had my favorites though. Today I came back. In her honor, I got the special: a spicy hatch chile pork tenderloin taco, with crema, white onion, and a hatch chili sauce. Then a carnitas taco, with salsa roja instead of their tomatilla, and a barbacoa taco (I would have gone Al Pastor, but had two pork tacos already). The pork tenderloin taco was okay. It definitely had some spice to it, which was nice, but the rest of the flavors kind of melded together. The barbacoa and carnitas were as wonderful as they always are. Pork, spicy red salsa, and cilantro are good. So is brisket, jalapeno relish, crema, and some pickled red onion. I used to rotate around between four different kinds and didn't really change here. This place is loaded with memories for me. Mostly all good. I wish I could come here with my wife still, but I can come back and enjoy the food and remember her for introducing me to the place.

While visiting my kid in Corvallis, Oregon, we decided to go out to Mexican. TacoVino is one of those local spots that visitors rarely find. We had to wait a bit for a table but the wait was so worth it. We started with the flaming queso which is served on fire and then the wait staff squeezed lemon to put the fire out. The queso was so good with a smoky flavor and not too heavy. I ordered the pozole bowl and a skirt steak taco without avocado. When the soup arrived, I was shocked! This was not a bowl but a swimming pool. I took my first bite and realized I just wanted to dive face first into the bowl. It was a mixture of warm spice, pork, veggies and warmth. The radishes added a cool, crisp flavor enchanting the experience. My taco was nice and spicy but not too spicy. My kid ordered a variety of tacos and enjoyed each bite. The tacos are sold individually so you can mix it up. We ended up having more food than we could eat and my kid took the leftovers home and said they were just as good the next day. The experience was amazing and the wait staff were on quick to refill drinks and check on us. While the restaurant was crowded, it was not too loud and we were able to enjoy our dinner and conversation.

Wonderful spot downtown!! They have so many innovative taco options, as well as the classics. Our server was super friendly and the patio is great for nice weather. The salad is a must get, I even tried to get the recipe for the dressing but the waitress said that wasn't allowed...bummer!!

The food here is so good. Everything is so fresh and flavorful. The staff are all super nice, and the service is also very quick. They have both inside and outside seating as well. Proportions are also pretty good, and they have a great variety of food on the menu. I really like the Carinitas taco and the fish one. They also have an amazing house margarita, and they have one with mezcal too. They can also make all of their drinks non-alcoholic if you want the taste without all of the booze. Highly recommend, 10/10 food.

The food is so delicious and flavorful. Everything seems fresh and made in-house. The servers here are always nice and on top of everything. It takes a little long to get what you ordered, but the food is 100% worth it. Also the ambience is really cool and trendy. This is definitely a restaurant meant for a social, long dinner or lunch. In the spring and summer they have outdoor seating. Sometimes the wait to get in can be long, so be prepared.

A very pleasant surprise in the heart of Corvallis I thought the most outstanding part of the meal was the melted cheese ie the Queso Flambeado Different cheeses , roasted tomatoes , garlic, scallions topped off with tequila that is set aflame I would wait for the flames to die down before you dig in but the taste was amazing. It's got a kick to it but perfect with beer. I had a a Carnitas taco. There's a lot of meat for just a single taco and let me add that it is a freshly made corn taco. I will be returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu

Came to TacoVino during a weekend trip to visit a friend at Oregon state. We came on a Thursday at 5:30 and had to wait around 35 minutes for a table. While we waited we were able to order drinks that were then delivered to us in the waiting area. I had the prickly pear margarita and it was sooo good. When we were finally seated we got the guac as well as the chips and salsa. As you can see from the picture we devoured the guacamole, it was truly delicious. The guac is served as ingredients so you have to mash it yourself, which was a fun experience. Overall in my opinion the guac is a must order. They also gave us some other salsas to try besides the normal red and green and they were very unique and tasty. Everyone enjoyed their tacos, and our server was attentive and generous. I ordered the steak taco and the fish taco. The steak was extremely tender and delicious. The fish taco was just as good. It was cute and dimly lit inside and worth the wait time for seating. Overall this is a great place to go if you don't mind waiting for seating.

Fun spot that serves pretty good tacos. Came by for dinner and ordered three tacos: 1 - Al Pastor - this was my favorite taco, pork with the jalapeños and fresh pineapple worked well together. 2 - Korean Beef Short Rib - This taco was pretty good but was NOT a very good imitation of KOREAN FOOD. Still enjoyed it. 3 - Fish Taco - this was disappointing. Fish was deep fried, over cooked, and had a red sauce that DOES NOT work with fish. Avoid this one. Service was really good! Server was friendly and they brought me my food quickly. Menu had tacos and a few other dishes that were non taco related. They "make your own guacamole" appetizer was popular and looked like a fun group activity. They have several pages of alcohol options but zero dessert options. This is a good place to come in a group and enjoy drinks and a meal together. Just don't order the fish taco

Service was friendly tacos and chips with red salsa were all delicious. Al pastor and duck tacos were our favorites. I also ordered the pozole and I would definitely skip that next time. Bland flavor and filled will mushy tortillas and an over abundance of soggy shredded cabbage which were both off putting. Stick with the tacos and sit on the patio and you will enjoy yourself,

Today, I'm adding the 5th star. I've gone back many times to this lovely spot, and I can't rave the staff enough. This is a dedicated and hardworking crew. The barkeep is next level. His cocktails are clutch, and he will introduce you to new spirits to tantalize your taste buds. I discovered more of the tiki inspired cocktails, too. Although Corvallis doesn't have a tiki bar, you can get your tiki on right here. I really need to tell y'all about the mushroom appetizer. At my very first visit, I was not impressed by the salsa that comes with the chips. Not the green or red. That took me on a journey to try other apps at my visits. The day I discovered the fried mushrooms tossed lightly in corn meal was the day I knew how truly special Tacovino is. These little popcorn style mushrooms have a perfect texture that's so bursting with flavor you may just order one whole plate for yourself. They have a Chile-Lime-Crema drizzled on top, and each bite is a crispy delight. You can ask for vegan style drizzle if needed. Don't delay. You want to eat here, but save me a place at the bar.

3 tacos and a table neighbor with emotional issues and a loud voice.

Rainy Day, Great Bar Seat, and One Memorable Meal…read more It was a cold, rainy Oregon afternoon when I stumbled into Castor, and I'm glad I did. There happened to be one open seat at the bar, which is my favorite place to dine when traveling. Sitting at the bar lets you talk story with the bartender, learn the menu, and watch the cocktails come together. If you're eating alone, I highly recommend grabbing a seat here. The bartender was friendly, easy to talk with, and clearly knew both the menu and the craft behind the bar. One thing that stood out right away was their use of fresh local ingredients, which really shows up in the flavor of the dishes and drinks. I started with the Golden Manhattan, made with a pecan-infused bourbon that was fantastic. It had a rich, slightly nutty flavor with warm vanilla notes and just the right touch of sweetness. Smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the meal. Alongside that I ordered the chorizo clam chowder, which brought a creamy base with just the right amount of spice from the chorizo. Comfort food with a little personality. For dinner I switched gears and ordered the Creole Sour. This one really stood out. Bright citrus up front, a smooth bourbon backbone, and a subtle spice note that tied perfectly into the Creole theme. It had that classic sour balance, tart, slightly sweet, and refreshing without overpowering the drink. Dinner was the gumbo with hot bread and butter, and it delivered. Deep flavor, a nice slow warmth from the spice, and hearty enough to make the rainy Oregon weather feel like part of the experience. To finish things off I kept it simple with a neat pour of Ben Holladay, which made for the perfect nightcap. The staff were welcoming and relaxed, which made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. This is the kind of place that works whether you're dining solo, meeting friends, out with someone special, or grabbing dinner with a group. The price point landed right where it should be for the quality of food, cocktails, and service. If you're in Corvallis and can grab a seat at the bar at Castor, take it. Order a cocktail, settle in, and enjoy the ride. It turned a rainy afternoon into one heck of a meal.

The shrimp and grits was bland and not very appealing. The frites were what seemed like a lot of small pieces and bits you'd find in the bottom leftovers of a big bag of pre-cut frozen French fries and, frankly, were overcooked. The French onion soup tasted almost burned, not rich and deeply flavored as would be expected of such an item. There was nothing about the meal that screamed or even whispered "fine dining" except for the price. We won't be back.

This was the only place that said,"Yeah, we can seat you!" So, hubs and I make our way from our roadside motel (Studio 6, review will be posted) to downtown Albany. The parking situation was a little confusing, but we found parking a few blocks from the restaurant. We got a table, yay! The place is pretty cool, it was a bank back in the day. They have a nice limited menu which offers options for all sorts of food preferences. So, our table was full of carnivores, lol. Hubs had the special which was a smoked prime rib, daughter's boyfriend had the Wagyu Brisket burger and my college grad had the filet. I also had the filet. Everything was super tasty! I would totally recommend if you aren't in a hurry. The servers were great.
