I used to love to go to El Sol de Mexico years ago back then really exempt quality. The last few times I have gone I have left unimpressed by the food quality and service. Surprisingly for a Mexican restaurant the food was flavorless, and the chips were stale. My waiter never came back to ask how things were. When he took our order he was rude and condescending when I asked him a question about the menu. There's so many other good quality, Mexican restaurants in Corvallis that are so much better. It was just really a bad experience overall. Won't recommend it in the future. read more

Every meal we've eaten at or ordered takeout from El Sol de Mexico has been delightful. The food is fantastic and so is the quality of service - upon every visit we are met with a warm greeting at the door, and are well taken care of throughout our meal. The staff are kind and clearly care about their customers, and they maintain a beautiful, clean, and refreshing dining area. The menu has many options, ranging from TexMex styles of dishes to more traditional ones. Having tried different things here and there, I can truly vouch for the food - so tasty! There's also a fun mixed drink menu to explore (on our last visit, the drink menu was at the inner edge of our table). If ordering takeout or delivery through a food courier, the food still maintains its great quality, as it is carefully packaged to-go. Quaint Mexican restaurant serving classic dishes for great prices. Stopped by here for lunch after reaching town last Friday. We arrived around 1 PM and the restaurant wasn't too crowded - just a few other people coming in and out. We were promptly seated and had our orders taken. For our meal we got * Shredded Beef Taquitos (me) * A veggie quesadilla (mom) * Lunch special - Tamale, Taco, and Chimichanga (brother) Food came out relatively quickly and we dug into our meal. We found the food to be pretty good for the most part - everything was cooked fine. The only thing we felt was lacking was seasoning / spices. Everything was missing a little oomph. With that said, the staff we interacted with were friendly enough and the food kept us satiated. If you're In Corvallis and looking for a spot to get some food in you to hold you over this will get the job done. I have been here a few times in the last 6 months. I have had a few dishes and have been happy with the food. Portion size to price has been good. The salsa that you get with chips is good. I have heard that if you get a refill they charge you. I can't verify that although I always get more than one salsa. The last time I was in the service was absolutely terrible. I don't think I have ever been treated so rude ever in a restaurant. I have had this waiter before and there was no issue. I have been a loyal customer of El Sol for nearly 15 years. This is the place to come for hot Mexican food, good quality, and fast service. I love their enchiladas, tacos, tostadas, etc. Their fajitas are quite good too. It's certainly a bit Americanized, but not bad for Oregon standards. The chips are great too! read more

We decided to order through Postmates this evening. I ordered the tostada de Ceviche for myself. It was amazing, fresh shrimp and avocado. I'd definitely would order it again. I also ordered 4 horchatas, one for me, my Mom, and two daughters. We all loved it. My husband ordered the burrito ranchero with shredded beef, he said it lacked flavor and didn't recommend it. My step dad ordered the Chile Colorado, he thought it was very good. My Mom ordered the Fiesta Platter and she loved the quesadilla, and the nachos. Our server kept walking away in the middle of our group ordering and then he kept asking us to repeat our orders (it was pretty empty). The service at El Sol (9th street location) is what makes me such a fan. One night my wife and I were eating here and when she received her order it wasn't what she had expected. My wife recalled that she had in fact ordered the wrong dish. The waitress offered to switch the already cooked dish for my wife. My wife declined and said she would enjoy the dish in front of her. A few minutes later without warning the waitress delivered the main entrée on a separate plate for my wife. No charge. The owner, Bernardo is committed to service and the same attitude is consistent in every person that works there. List of awesome: Plenty of seating - party of 15, no reservation, no problem. This place came very highly recommended by a manager of Los Dos Amigos in Eugene, citing his cousin owned it and it was fantastic. We just had to try it out, according to him. We figured it couldn't be too bad, given I enjoy Los Dos Amigos. Boy, were we in for a surprise! It was absolutely nothing like Los Dos Amigos. I ordered the tortilla soup to start with. It came out and it was a pale orange, like milky tomato soup. It was chunky, like they had crushed up crackers in it before they brought it out to me. It tasted like three day old moldy baby poop, and not much different in appearance. I ordered cheese enchiladas. How difficult can a cheese enchilada be? How can you screw it up? You wouldn't think you could. Well, I'm here to tell you it is actually possible. The sauce was a bright red, and very thick. It looked like tomato paste. Didn't taste much different either. Thick, bitter, very acidic. It was gross. I ordered my enchilada with cheese and no beans. It came out with hamburger inside and whole beans that clearly weren't retried on my plate. The service was atrocious. Our waitress looked like Jeff Dunham's Walter character, with her grumpy face. She could've given Grumpy Cat lessons! She looked like she desperately wanted to be anywhere in the world except in that restaurant serving our food. She never came back to check on us or see if we needed refills on drinks, chips, salsa, or anything else. So I didn't actually get the chance to send my incorrect food back. I just ate the chips and salsa, and had to go hunt the waitress down to pay the bill. She never asked how the food was or anything. Just held out her hand at the register, demanding the check and payment. It's not a place I plan to ever return. Once was plenty. I can't be sure it was from here, but I ended up very ill the following day, my body emptying everything out from both ends, for almost 24 hours. Once it was out, I was fine. It has been my experience at Mexican restaurants that when the chips are good, the cuisine is good. The chips here were crispy and tasty so I had high hopes for the food. Was really hoping for some authentic Mexican food choices but the menu wasn't too extensive. Settled on a "choose 3" combination plate. I literally got my food in less than 5 minutes!!! Finally tried this place after living in Corvallis for a year and after several friends recommended it. Very friendly service, which was also lightning fast - we had margaritas at out table almost immediately after ordering them, and our food arrived within 5 minutes after placing our order. I had a basic margarira on the rocks, which was a bit sweet for my taste, but hit the spot ninetheless. For dinner, I had the "Carne Asada y Mas" and ordered chile relleno as the "mas". The Carne Asada was exceptional - perfectly cooked and wonderful flavor. The rice, beans, Chile relleno, and guacamole were tasty, but otherwise unremarkable. I will definitely be back and look forward to sampling more from the menu. read more
