Lovely servers. So attentive. But the food lacks flavor. Had a taco and tortilla soup. Husband had the mole enchilada. Taco shell seemed freshly prepared. The ground beef tasted packaged rather than freshly sautéed/seasoned. The soup was hot, which was good, but pretty tasteless. The chicken in the soup was actually dry. I added hot sauce, salt and pepper. My husband's order was wrong- delivered with meat, but they quickly fixed it. It was ordinary- lacked flavor. 45.00 for two before tip with no alcohol. Very overpriced for the quality. Probably won't be back. :( read more

This is definitely my go to spot for meeting my son and grandson for a delicious meal in Philomath. The wait staff is really attentive, checking in, and keeps our drinks refilled. My favorite is the tostada and chili relano, enchiladas are great too and the burritos are great for another meal as they are so big. We always make sure to save room for the flan, another of my guilty pleasures. Super clean and an upbeat fun atmosphere. It's not really fancy, but boy is the food good. Nice and clean. Large portions more than my husband and I can eat,so we always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Love love their Fajitas. We were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered the taco salad no meat with black beans. My husband ordered the street tacos with black beans. The server never said anything about ordering the black beans, except they had them. When the food arrived the black beans were refrigerator cold! I informed the server the beans were cold she said she would tell the kitchen? No offer to correct the food? Hard to eat cold beans, we left more half the food on the plate! Server picked up our plates handed us the bill. Needless to say terrible food, unless you like refrigerator cold beans, and terrible service!!! read more

This was the best Mexican food I've had in quite some time. I had the Camarones a la Diabla, and was very impressed with the depth of flavor. In my experience, Mexican restaurants merely use a tomato base and up the spice level. Ixtapa had a layered flavor that added note of sweetness and tartness to the mix. Add that to the excellent service, and you've got yourself a return customer. I look forward to coming back and trying something else. read more

I was looking forward to eating here... I asked the waitress about the fish tacos and was told the tacos were like Baja tacos so I ordered them. What a disappointment. The tacos were in flour tortillas and the fish was like cut up fish sticks & very very salty, also there was no cabbage, no lime, just a big mound of guacamole & salsa. I managed to eat one and the waitress came by and asked if I wanted a box for the remainder. I politely told her no, she then asked why, I told her that the fish was much too salty. The owner then told me that they do not add salt to the frozen breaded fish that they buy. A Baja style taco is fresh fish that are beer battered & fried and served in corn tortillas with cabbage, fresh crema & lime with a pico de gallo on the side. This was a tough call on either 3 or 4 stars. I eventually settled on 3 and I'll explain why. Driving up to this restaurant, on the outside, it's not impressive. In fact, you'll think, "What the..."?!?!? Inside, it's quite a bit nicer. A lot of ornate Mexican decorations on the walls, with a unique ornate paint job, and pretty nice tables and chairs that are also very comfortable. Not cafeteria style like so many Mexican-American restaurants can be. A couple of downers regarding the dining room: The ceiling tiles are disgusting. Don't look up!!! The bathroom, while not awful, is borderline. Very borderline. The food is good. I enjoyed an absolutely monstrous Ixtapa Burrito that had outstanding flavor and was enough for at least two grown men... maybe more. No homemade hot sauce here at all. You want hot? You have to dump "store-bought" Tapatio sauce on your food. I prefer when a Mexican restaurant has a homemade option. The owner told me they have no demand for hot sauce so they don't make it. So be it. The prices are very reasonable. In fact, the value here is very good. This was the borderline 4 star I wanted to give the restaurant. Alas, the ceiling tiles and on-the-verge-of-being-disgusting bathrooms forced this rating to three stars. For Mexican, you could do a lot worse. Give it a shot. read more

The Ixtapa burrito is delicious, one of the best I have ever had. The rice and beans inside have meat fat flavoring them, which makes them more flavorful than I have had anywhere else. This place was a big disapointment. I am only in the area for the eclipse and stopped for a bit to eat.. My boyfriend and I are vegetarian and this place is not accommodating. All we were going to get were a couple of veggie burritos and add french fries to them. However, our waitor literally told us that it was "too complicated" and that the place was "too busy" to make that and tried to get us to order something different. He wasn't very pleasant and acted like we were wasting his time. When I tried to get a straight answer on if they could or could not put fries in a torilla, he basically said he could try but its pretty busy and they have "lots to pick from". Also, their salsa is bland. So, basically if you want to order something exactly as it comes then this is the perfect place for you. But if you like what you like and value customer service, then just go to La Rockita down the street; their veggie tacos are the bomb. read more

We stopped in here by accident while visiting a friend and we loved it. The staff is fun and helpful, the ambiance is cheery and colorful, and the food was SO GOOD. I had a combo plate with pinto beans instead of refried beans. Each part of the entree was fresh and cooked perfectly. The sauce flavors were flawless and the portion size was plentiful. Sometimes when we go for Mexican food, things seem microwaved, often over-microwaved, and sometimes the veggies are limp or non-existent. Not so here. Freshly prepared with great flavor and lots of variations on the margarita. We will be back soon. read more

Even though I live only five minutes away, this was my first lunch at Ixtapa in four years. If you like traditional, fresh Mexican food at a good price, this is the place to go- locally, authentically owned. They have a daily $5.00 lunch special - today we had the chicken chalupa. The beans are fresh and not laden with lard, the chips hot and toasty,. the salsa spicy, and the guacamole delish. As a recent transplant to the Philomath area and a Mexican food junkie I was very pleased to find Ixtapa. Not authentic by any means but still very good. I love the lunch fajitas ($9.50)! I always end up with at least two sometimes three meals from them. All the accoutrements are there in generous portions - rice, beans, salad, tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo as well as fresh crunchy chips and delicious salsa. The marinade on the chicken is crazy good, the beans have that "clay pot" taste and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh! read more
