I feel bad I didn't get the names of the people who took care of us this evening! Before we walked in, two people outside welcomed us and ushered us into the door. The hostess at the front desk seems genuinely happy to see us and, since we told her we like to sit at the bar, let us pick the seats we wanted. Our bartender/server was just the sweetest and most attentive ever. Chatted with us while making drinks for others and making us feel like the most important people in the bar, The food was excellent and perfect sized helpings, The Sangiovese wine, perfect and who knew Eugene made such yummy limoncello! The first thing to note is that the 2 star reflects my view of the restaurant given it's posturing itself in the market as a gourmet, upscale restaurant, as evidenced by relatively high prices for relatively small portions. The restaurants ambiance has a soft, intimate feel to it, but neither the chairs nor tables have the element of class one would expect. In fact, the perimeter of the seating area has wooden benches which make sitting comfortably relative to the table a trick. Meanwhile, the actual chairs reminded me more of modern living room chairs as opposed to dining chairs. As for the food, we found the two main courses rather tasty:one being a steak kabob and the other a lamb kabob. I have had the lamb kabob on another occasion and both times it was cooked so the lamb was juicy and tender: rather delicious. However, the lamb kabob only came with one skewer of meat. On the other hand, the wagyu beef kabob was very tasty in it's own right and this was two skewers worth. I had trouble squaring that discrepancy in my head - so be it. As an appetizer, we shared the calamari dish. I am used to large plates of breaded, fried calamari cooked to perfection from my days eating at Italian restaurants in New York. This appetizer came in a small cup, which appeared to be an 8 ounce size (the cup was fancy and black, consistent with the image they are trying to project). The calamari dish was good, but not anything special. Thus, without considering that this restaurant markets itself as, a high end , gourmet restaurant, I would rate the food portion of the review a 4 star. However, that must be adjusted to reflect the food preparation relative to marketed expectation and that knocks it down to a marginal 4, at best, probably a 3 in my book. The real killer was the service. I will say it was both pleasant and polite. However, this is the type of restaurant that is marketed to appeal to the romantic dinner crowd with high end expectations: the professionalism of the service fell far short. To begin with, the host and waitress sat us at a table directly next to another couple. Note that I had made a reservation for 7. When we arrived there were only three tables occupied. However, we were sat directly next to another couple even though we could have been sat another two tables away for far greater privacy and a more romantic experience. Then the waitress exhibited zero personality throughout the evening. In addition, she came over while we were still eating our main courses and asked if we wanted the dessert menus, even though the restaurant would be open for another hour. All in all, I feel that the server was a nice person, but was obviously not very experienced and added nothing to the experience - not what one expects in a place that is marketing itself as upscale. I had a restaurant business and used slow times as an opportunity to observe and teach. I noticed nobody making such an effort in a situation that called for it: a big oversight and lost opportunity for three parties: the server because they are not being assited to grow, the patron because the service impacts the consumers overall quality of the experience and the owner for the obvious reason that it impacts business long-term. I call it the win-win-win formula and this restaurant would benefit from applying this concept to training the wait staff so they are at the patrons expectation level. In summary, if this were a casual restaurant I would rate it a 3, but because of how the business is slotting itself into the market with it's pricing, portion sizes, ambiance and menu presentation - I believe it only merits a 2 star review in that particular market segment. I do not believe you will be disappointed with the overall experience, but neither time have I left their feeling wowed, and both times I left feeling that the experience did not meet the expectation for the cost nor for the intimate, romantic feel they want to project as providing read more

Disappointingly small portions, especially for the price. The Calamari comes in a little cup, and my fiancé and I got about 4 small bites per pérson. For $18. Kind of insulting actually. We had the Bucatini, which in my view was rather bland, and also small portioned. I won't be returning. And oh yeah, I've been here once before and sat at the bar. Don't do that. The barstools are super uncomfortable because you just slide off of them. Final thought. They should absolutely NOT have Octopus on the menu. Watch the movie "Octopus Teacher." A welcoming and warm environment. My friend and I did not make a reservation and walked in on a Saturday night. The staff attempted to sit us given their full capacity, we opted for bar seating and still received exceptional, personable service. The burrata was delicious, chicken a little dry for my personal liking ( but it was only $14 generous portion, I would definitely order again). The menu offers family style options onshore so enjoyed the grilled carrots that had a bit of spice, Caesar salad cabbage version and Lamb Kabab. Dersert drink Limoncello with a custard style brule. Make sure you make reservations as they fill up even on a Wednesday nite! Also if your seated by 530pm you will be kicked out nicely at 7pm. Staff was pleasant and food came out within minutes. Husband ordered waygu beef skewer. When it came, server said to be careful it would be hot. It was ice cold and burnt to a crisp and thin as leather. I had bucatini. The pasta was cold which didn't allow the chunk of mozzarella on top to melt into the dish. The vegetables were hot but couldn't heat up the dish to save it. What a beautiful restaurant snuggled into downtown Corvallis. Perfect for date night or treat yourself at the bar. The aesthetic is inviting and pleasing to all the senses, especially my tastebuds. It was filled with clean lines and comfort. Staff was attentive and friendly. Fresh pasta here is no joke. I had the pesto spaghetti. The pesto was so rich and creamy and not heavy at all. You can taste the difference when pasta is made daily with so much care. I couldn't resist eating every last drop. The broccoli was charred to perfection and dusted with flavor that popped with every crunch. The yogurt sauce was a fun addition for dipping. The foccacia was freshy fresh with a scrumptious basil tomato jam that tasted fresh from the garden. I also dipped my bread into the creamy pesto dish. That was dynamite. Atmospheric Lucca Taverna restaurant is an excellent new entry in the local restaurant scene in Corvallis. We made the mistake of coming here right before a game, and while we were in a hurry, we were accommodated without a reservation and treated well, but Lucca is a place you should definitely stay and linger with friends. Dishes are generous and best enjoyed shared and family style. We started with their aranchini, delicious Italian fried rice balls served with fresh, bright tomato sauce. We selected their family style lamb kabob, with roasted peppers and onion, and their lush mushroom risotto. The risotto was toothsome and creamy, a perfect rendition. We were surprised that while many European wines by the glass were on offer here, even a vino verde, there weren't many local producers from nearby Dundee and Willamette. To us this seemed like a missed opportunity: we would have appreciated more local wine by the glass. Lucca Taverna was new to me, but I won't be going back any time soon. The room is a little gloomy and the service inconsistent, but my primary complaint is with the food. The salad was delicious, but the Chicken Piccata came as a dry breast with near-burnt capers on top and NO lemon-butter sauce. I didn't think it possible to mess up this very simple Italian dish. This place is very cozy and cute. To start, we got eggplant croquettes, burrata and crispy potatoes. Eggplant croquettes: 10/10 I really enjoyed them and the overall flavor, cooked nicely. Great potential here as my top new restaurant in Corvallis, but they have a few communication kinks to work out (the food is 5 stars). I ordered two main dishes to go--the wait was substantial for only 5-6 full tables. The food came out in wonderful, large white bowls, but definitely not packed to go. The food runner took them back and brought out one large bag with four main items (someone else's order). We got it straightened out quickly, and I can see why the food runner was frustrated. What would have been appropriate is to simply apologize for the confusion and extra time and let it go. Pity he missed that opportunity. He just communicated his frustration. Bummer vibe. We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant so much! There was a special tasting experience going on, but we were lucky enough to get a table & were offered items from that menu à la carte, in addition to the normal menu. We had the Italian salad, Beet ricotta ravioli, Pappardelle with meatballs, and an amazing lemon cake for dessert. The beet ricotta ravioli was our favorite, but everything else was very delicious. We drove in from Harrisburg tonight to celebrate my birthday. Too many times, we find high prices and mediocre food when we try a new restaurant. Wow, we were NOT disappointed here! We give a five- star rating for ambience, food service (Thank you to our delightful server, Ani (sp?)) and especially for the delicious food! We went to Lucca Taverna without a reservation on a Saturday night. When we got there, we were told that there might be one table available for us, but we really should have had a reservation. Throughout the evening, neither the indoor nor outdoor seating filled up, and the same waitress made small talk with the table next to us about how slow the restaurant is when OSU plays a home football game. The cocktails were imbalanced and the entrees were overpriced for their overall creativity and flavor (or lack there of). One of the drinks we ordered was forgotten, and we were not checked in with after the food was served. I wouldn't necessarily discourage others from trying the restaurant on their own volition, but I wouldn't recommend it, and I won't be back unless others give consistently improved reviews. read more
