Here's the updated version: Tacos Vegonos is hands down the best vegan Mexican spot I've found, and I'm picky! Growing up on San Diego taco shop street food, I have a high bar for Mexican food, and this place hits home in a way nothing else around here does. The selection is unbeatable -- there's literally nothing on the menu that isn't good! I used to eat here one to three times a week. My work schedule changed and now it kills me that I can't get out as often, since they're in central Phoenix and I'm out in far East Gilbert. But trust me -- this place is absolutely worth the drive. The birria is my go-to on anything, and I'll often do a 50/50 split on the nachos or the fries -- both are killer! I remember when they were just a taco truck, and the food was amazing then too. Moving to a brick-and-mortar didn't change a thing -- same incredible quality, same fantastic customer service every single visit. Worth your money and worth the trip, even if you're not vegan! I just had food delivered to my hotel and I feel bad because I think I got someone else's nacho sauce in my order! I got the massive Arizona burrito with birria and it's delicious! I also took advantage of the special taco plate and got two chicken and one asada. Also so delicious! Both salsas were also really tasty. I really wanted to try the birria ramen especially after reading another yelper say the noodles were good. I'll have to wait until the next time I'm back in Phoenix. If I'm taking a food trip to Phoenix this is first on the list. I got the AZ burrito - the tortilla was so good/soft - like classic Mexican style tortillas not the rubbery kind - and the burrito itself was huge, with lots of fillings. I also got the horchata which was so yummy, no grainy texture and had a nice cinnamon taste. The staff was also very nice and answered all of my brother's ingredient questions (yes EVERYTHING is vegan). All the salsas they gave were too spicy for me but the food had great flavor and wasn't dry so I didn't need it. One thing to note is the tacos de papas are hard shell tacos not soft. I also got an order of birria ramen to go, and there happened to be a BOGO deal so we got 2 ramens. They were thoughtful and gave us the noodles and jackfruit birria in two separate containers. Came here with a vegan friend on Friday for a late lunch and absolutely loved it! We arrived just before rush and since I couldn't decide what to order, I ordered all three things I was looking at: Abia taco, a cauli Baja taco, and the AZ burrito with " Carne Asada". In the time my friend i dined at the restaurant, so many people came and went. They do have table seating and a large menu you can review upon walking in. After that, you can order at the counter countertop and find this place to sit. I got a red and a green salsa, both paired well with my food. The burrito was also huge & the horchata was one of the better ones I've tried! The flavors were on point and I would definitely go back again! We had the Barria Tacos with fackfruit. I had a coupon I had been holding on to until I made it to there side of town. I was excited. The food was oiling and salty. I'm thinking that works for most folks. The taco shell was a hit! It stood up to all the oil and kept its crunch. This was my first visit to their brick and mortar location! My friend and I wanted to grab a late lunch/early dinner and were in the area. We were greeted warmly as we perused the menu. I was initially considering the burrito or nachos but then I saw they had a few specials. I'm a sucker for a taco salad, so I ordered that with pollo (chicken). My friend got some potato tacos and birria sauce to take home. Note: they charge a 3% credit card fee, which I didn't notice until I got my receipt. Our food was prepared in a timely manner and we grabbed a table in the back next to the bathrooms. Which btw are both gender neutral, which is nice. They also have outdoor tables, which I've sat at when this spot was a burger joint. My taco shell seemed to be on the smaller side but it was filled with lots of ingredients like beans, pollo, guacamole, onions, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes. It tasted great and the taco shell was freshly fried (no old oil aftertaste). The pollo was cooked well and had good flavors. After reading and hearing glowing reviews from my fellow Yelpers, I knew that I had to take my husband here. For over the last 12 months he has pretty much refrained from eating beef, chicken or pork. As someone who has become newly lactose intolerant but not vegetarian, this spot sounded attractive to me. You then pick your own table and wait a few minutes until your number is called. When getting your items, be sure that you receive the two house made salsas. We both agreed that they made all the difference in the taste of our AZ burritos $13.99. The taste went from just okay to extremely tasty! These large burritos filled with white beans and soy meat were good but really heavy on the rice and fries which felt unbalanced to me. The onions and cilantro mixture were flavorful components but more of the vegan sour cream and guacamole would have enhanced this $13.99 dish. My Latina friend that is vegetarian told me about this place. I started watching some of their funny social media videos before I made my first visit. Tacos Veganos is the place to go for vegan street tacos. I got their taco plate on my first visit here and was instantly hooked. One of the things that I love about living in the Valley is that we are blessed to have great tacos here. Tacos Veganos is definitely up there as one of my favorites. The food is just as flavorful as tacos with meat. Tacos Veganos serves tacos, burritos and combo plates. The jackfruit quesabirria tacos are one of their highlights. The jackfruit is cooked in red chiles and other spices for many hours and topped with vegan cheese and onions. For drinks, they have agua frescas, sodas, horchata and alcohol. This Tacos Veganos location is on Indian School Rd in Arcadia. Arcadia is home to some of my favorite places to eat in the Valley. I live in Tucson Arizona, so I stopped by here on my way home. I got two burritos to go, and it was a tough call between all the delicious sounding vegan options. I have to knock a star off, because their rice was either way overcooked and dry or way undercooked and hard. I wound up having to scoop the rice out, because it was inedible unfortunately. As a vegan food nerd visiting Phoenix my mission during the trip was eat only at vegan establishments, so clearly I needed some vegan tacos. Tacos Veganos is delightful - friendly, knowledgeable staff, clean, no-fuss interior, plenty of seating, and AMAZING FOOD. We sampled: -The taco plate special: 3 tacos served with rice and beans. You can choose a different filling for each taco; ours were asada, al pastor, and pollo - all delicious. -Quesa birria dorado: a truly inspired situation of crunchy taco, melty cheese, and birria. -Consome regular: birria broth, because you can't have too much of a good thing. A little salty, but excellent flavor. Although everything was delicious, I am withholding 1 star due to cost/benefit as the amount of food for the price was slightly lacking. While I get supply chain issues and inflation, I do think $30 for fast food tacos (even delicious vegan ones) is a little steep. It's really cool to see a local grow. I last visited Tacos Veganos on a hot summer day several years ago. At that time, they had a truck parked in an alley between two businesses. Ar that time, one couldn't miss their logo and that big black taco. I remember waiting so giddy to have their tacos under the sweltering and oppressive heat of the desert. My order was ready and I ran to the cool confines of my brother's truck. Here's a tidbit about me, I despise eating in any vehicle. I enjoyed every bite and favor that day. Fast forward to a couple of days, I returned to the Valley of the Sun and discovered that Tacos Veganos had taken over the Beaut Burger location. Sad to see to Beaut go but ecstatic for Tacos Veganos to inhabit that space. The bold and brightness of the truck is all over the inside of the space. It's inviting and easy to order at the counter. The menu is 100% vegan with emphasis on Mexican Street Tacos made available with different protein options. Non-GMO soy is one of the options as well as Jackfruit. I ordered the Birria tacos and Vegano fries. We sat down and a short time later our order was ready. It came with two bottles of sauces. One red and one green. Both are good but I prefer the red as it is slightly more spicy. My Birria tacos with the consume were authentic and packed with flavors. One could blindfold 100 taco experts and I would wager to bet that no one would know that they were eating vegan tacos with Jackfruit. It was that good. The consume was spectacular, greasy, juicy, messy, flavorful, hot, and spicy. If you go this route, you're going to need a handful of napkins otherwise suffer the fate of consume juice on your fingers and your mouth. The Vegano fries were good but I think I like order more tacos next time. I could have eaten another three or four more tacos and really empty the well of the consume. If you are looking for authentic tasting Mexican tacos but Vegan, this is the spot. Everything is vegan but it doesn't taste Vegan We decided to try a little bit of everything. Asada Taco- This was my favorite out of all of them, it taste just like carne asada and the texture was perfect. Chicken Taco- Like shredded chicken but it did taste like soy, but delicious nonetheless Birria Taco- Top two for sure. Has the flavor of Birria and consistency.
