Vacationed in St. Augustine and our hotel was right next to Taco Queen. I placed an order on the phone and was told it would be ready in 5 minutes. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a woman who was very sweet. The restaurant is also very clean and nice seating. I was pleasantly surprised with everything. We drove by this spot on the way from Saint Augustine to Palatka. It beckoned to me, as it looked like one of those little hole in the wall places that serves great food. I have never been more correct on one of my hunches. It was around 2:30 PM so we were the only patrons in the restaurant, The food came quickly but was still hot and fresh. I had chicken nachos which were excellent, The chips were crispy and were covered with plenty of juicy succulent chicken(shredded not the chunks which I don't like). The cheese and beans and guac covering them was delicious as well as the fresh cilantro and pico. Everything was so fresh and good and the people that ran the joint were so nice. Two words: mozzarella cheese!!! In all my years and in all my visits to Mexican restaurants, not once have I EVER had mozzarella cheese on tacos, quesadillas or or on any other Mexican food! WTH?? I was skeptical when this restaurant opened, simply because previous businesses have failed there. My girl and I went there for lunch last week. We'd been talking about visiting it, as there are really only two other decent Mexican restaurants in town and both are a bit of a drive (we live not far from Taco Queen). We we greeted as soon as we walked through the door and seated right away. Our server brought over chips and some REALLY tasty salsa. There were only two other tables occupied at the time. By the time our entrees arrived, there were only two tables UNoccupied. The place was full. I forget what my girl got, but I got the fajita burrito. It was wickedly tasty, but it could've used a bit more shrimp and a lot less rice (only three pieces of shrimp?). Just tried this place for the first time today...from start to finish, the experience was great! They let you pick where you want to sit then they give you the menu and chips and salsa right away. You then get up to order your food and drinks and pay (sounds weird but very efficient). Before we even got back to our table, we already had the queso dip delivered to us! We also were given more chips and salsa which were all muy deliciosos!! The tacos were so impressive! My favorite was the shrimp ceviche taco!
