I've been here a couple of times and ordered through DoorDash about 50 times already. Is it consistent each time? Nope, but it's never bad. I don't like coming around this area because it's not the safest in my opinion, that's why I have doordash deliver it to me. This restaurant is small, no frills about it. Just your mom and pop joint where you can come and enjoy some authentic Mexican food. Service is not bad either. Here are some items I've ordered. * horchata- good amount of sweetness and decent cinnamon flavor. 4/5 * Aqua Fresca (melon)- freshly blended cantaloupe. So good. 4.5/5 * pupusas revueltas- it's filled with pork. Sometimes it can be a little too oily but taste wise it's good. The cabbage slaw that comes with it gives a tangy, crunchy contrast to the pupusas. The salsa roja is a simple tomato sauce. Tastes so good when combining it with the pupusas and cabbage slaw. 4/5 * Super burrito- choice of chicken or beef, I prefer beef. It's very filling, more than a regular burrito since it has avocados in them as well. Gotta have avocados in your burrito. It's huge to where I can only finish half of it. 4.5/5 * Carne asada- comes with rice & beans and a couple of tortillas. I only ordered this once but it was not good. Flavor wise it was there but the meat was cooked to hell to where it's burnt. The meat was beyond chewy like a beef jerky. 1.5/5 * enchiladas verdes- probably my least favorite. I had it with shredded chicken. The sauce was weak in the flavor department & the chicken was uninspiring. 1/5 * Orden de charros- it's always hot and fresh. It's a soup but not too soupy. It has pinto beans, bacon, hot dogs, tomatoes, peppers etc. it's serve as a side dish. It's very hearty and definitely will cure a hangover. Also good for a cold day. 3.5/5 * Tacos (Corn Tortilla)- I usually get Al pastor, barbacoa & Trompo. My favorite one is the Al pastor; full of flavor. The barbacoa has the least amount of seasoning but the most tendered and melt in your mouth. The trompo tacos is seasoned to perfection but a bit chewy, most likely because it's pork. They have a green and red sauce that comes with the tacos. The red one is all heat and nothing else, hard pass. Overall, it's a solid spot. One of the better ones in Houston. Will I come back? Nope, but I'll order them through DoorDash. read more

It's like a small, old restaurant, that you would never look at and say "wow, that place looks awesome! We must go!!!" The neighborhood look a bit unpleasant. It looks extremely humble and inside you can tell it got some history. Mom and pop vibes. Staff is polite. Food was good. Salsa was hot. Like hot hot. Temperature wise. Which was a first for me. But I really liked it. Nachos was heavy. Cheese heavy. Good amount of meat. Great portion. They did not skimp. Tacos la carbon was bomb. The beef was grilled. Had Smokey charred flavor. Tender. Good flavor. The refried beans though was the best thing there. Legit would go back for the beans and beef. So good. Rice was ok. But the beannns. Great stuff. I'm glad we stumbled across this place. I have not had better tacos in Houston than here. I tried the barbacoa and they will be ordered every time i come here. The beef fajita is also a favorite. They do not skimp on the meat. The tacos are filled with meat. This visit i guess i ordered too many tacos (13 for $23) and they forgot the onions and cilantro. Luckily i had onions at home. The green salsa is so good. Never judge a book by it's cover. We all know that. This hole in wall place has tasty tacos and great, cheaply priced authentic Mexican food! The place is small and cozy. They have a few flat screen TVs which usually has the Spanish channel on. I always order the lengua (beef tongue) and al pastors (pork) tacos. Their green sauce is bomb.com! The servers don't speak fluent English but their service is efficient and they always come back to ask how service is. I typically come here for breakfast because they open pretty early. I recently came here for dinner and the only difference is FREE chips and salsa for dinner diners. They have fresh squeezed OJ, Mexican beers, Coke products and authentic sodas. Oh and I never have to ask for napkins. Fun fact, lol. I love when there's paper towel rolls or napkins on the table! I'm a messy eater and I hate consistently asking for napkins. The staff is very friendly and said hi as soon as we entered. We actually ate here 2 times in 2 days, it was that good. The first time we ordered 2 chicken & egg tacos, 4 beef "street" tacos with cilantro and onion & 2 tacos al pastor. My GF loved the al pastor so much we went back the next day, again. I enjoyed the beef tacos the most, day 1, and I ordered the Chiliquiles, day 2. The Chiliquilies were delicious. I got it with green sauce and eggs over medium and I would highly recommend that dish as my favorite. My GF got tacos the second day, but ended up sharing my chilaquiles, the dish was that good. This small taqueria is my go-to place when I'm craving tacos. They have tacos as low as less than 2 bucks and it's filled with delicious, well seasoned meat and fresh tortillas. Their pupusas are the best I've had so far and their tortas are HUGE and packed with meat (so if you're not too big on that, go for something lighter). Today my coworker and I each got the Tacos al Carbon plate, the beef fajita plate with rice and beans. So filling and we were satisfied. If you dine in you also get complimentary chips and salsa. I admit it is a bit hard to order if you don't know Spanish, but they know some English and you can always point on the menu. But that's expected from somewhere authentic! They don't speak or understand English at all so be prepared, but they will do their best to understand what you want. The waitresses are sweet and they always have a steady crowd which they handle well. On my drive to meet a client, I traveled on Beechnut where I found a small mexican eatery - Tacos La Balita. Once inside, it is nice & cozy. Cozy without anyone invading your personal space. Personally, I didn't find the limited space to be a limitation. At its entrace, there is an elongated table top with bar stools for patrons to sit right away. While there you become close and personal with the cook and his wait staff. They are cordial as they are efficient to serve you with a smile. Sitting on my bar stool, I ordered chicken and fajita tacos. They are served with a generous amount of onion, celantro and limes. Rrrrrico!They are tasty and juicy. MMMMMMM. One might wonder if they would pass the Santos Taco Stress Test. I for one think they would. My drink order was the medium lemonade. It was served chilled & delivered with a smile. Chilled lemonade during a hot day where everything under sun is smoldering from direct sun rays will cool and refresh one at their core and restore one's temperature. This review is SOLELY based on their beef fajitas tacos served with corn tortilla. This is the ONLY thing we ever order here. I'm always craving these darn tacos! The authenticity, taste, and sauce earn the tacos 4 stars. The authentic Mexican taco comprises 3 ingredients--meat, cilantro, and onion, but they are AMAZING. Add in the avocado jalapeno sauce and it's even better! The beef is flavorful and everything tastes delicious together. Also, get the corn tortillas instead of the flour ones. Usually I prefer the corn tortillas but I hate the ones that are super dry and crumbly. The corn tortillas here are soft, with 2 layers of tortillas per taco. I usually peel off 1 of the layers because the tortillas are too thick if I eat it with both layers. Even with one layer it's not crumbly and does not tear apart. Oh, and the best part is that these tacos are only $1.50 each! I usually get them topped with avocado (you should too). MMMMMMMM DELICIOUS! read more

Saw this mentioned if a houston food blogger rundown on best tacos. suprised to see it wasnt already on yelp. suprised more still that this was place i pass by all the time when i used to get gas here, and that a place praised for its authentic mexican food is right in chinatown, in the catty corner of a many nearby authentic asian restaurants! ordered a plate with a little bit of everything, and two tacos ,al pastor and 'trompo' which was written in. i knew well enough that in mexico, al pastor is *cooked* on a trompo, but i was curious what would happen, and i dont know enough about mexican idioms and maybe i was just assuming they were the same thing. the waitress took my order and then later came back and advised me, i guess sizing me up because i had a disparate order, and of not latin descent, that i wasn't intentionally ordering two of the same thing, but with different names. , that those were actually the same thing, which is what i thought. i thought it was cool she was looking out for me. i normally ask to not have chips/salsa brought out to me (carbs), but i forgot this time. the salsa was actually pretty good, a good omen. basically everyhting i had was solid. no way for me to explain but everything 'had a taste' to it, well seasoned enough that you coulnd't define, just that it was pleasing. read more
