I went to Tejas this morning for the first time. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, and the service was friendly. I ordered four egg, cheese, and potato breakfast tacos. The food was good, and the salsa had a nice mild spice to it. My only complaint was the portion size. If I'm paying over $18 + for four breakfast tacos and leaving a tip, I expect them to be filled appropriately. A couple of the tacos seemed to have more tortilla than filling, which was disappointing. Other than the portion size, I have no complaints. Tucked away in a bit of an odd location, this spot turns out to be a pleasant surprise once you step inside. It's counter service, and while the staff is friendly, the interaction leans more efficient than personal. The decor fits perfectly with the vibe: cozy, clean, and thoughtfully cute without trying too hard. I went with the carne guisada plate and flour tortillas. I went sides first, and the ranchero beans were the clear bussin' really well-seasoned, full of flavor, and easily the best part of the plate. The rice was a bit flat by comparison, but the beans more than made up for it. The carne guisada itself was solid: tender beef, good spice, though it could've used a touch more depth to really match the beans. All said, the meal was very good. We came in and my husband had ordered taquitos and carne asada fries. They gave us 3 tacos with onions and a carne asada burrito. Nothing to what we had ordered we noticed when we drove away we came back and my husband was upset so he just changed to my taquitos for me and left it at that. The people here seem to not know what they are doing. Also the close at 2pm we showed up at 1pm and they already had chairs flipped up while people were eating. read more

The food is definitely TexMex. I May try something different next time, if I'm ever around that area but not Mexican but yea TexMex. Good in its own right and plentiful! Been visiting this taco house for more than 10 years and although we've moved away from the area, we always try to stop by and eat some good Tex mex food. Breakfast tacos are awesome as is the rest of their food. Employees and owner are friendly and attentive. They have the BEST green salsa if you like spicy. The location is small and can get busy. Somehow the Chinatown area has lucked out by having more than just good Asian food. I came here for lunch (they're only open for breakfast and lunch and closed Sundays) and got the combination plate: one crispy beef taco, one cheese enchilada, and one bean tostada with rice and refried beans. I completely devoured everything. I think that their rendition of each item is spot on. The crispy beef taco was juicy, but not too much, and the meat was flavorful. The cheese enchilada had the right amount of cheese. The bean tostada was both crunchy and fresh. Their green salsa is a spicy tomatillo salsa that's a little different from what you'd usually find around town, in a good way. Prices are reasonable and the food comes out crazy fast without compromising quality. The only letdown was the lack of chips and salsa--they have them as part of some other combos, but not complimentary. If you're in the area, it's definitely a solid option for Tex-Mex. read more

I was in a dire need of tamales to scratch my itch and was able to pick up some tamales togo. They are running about ~$1.25 per tamale and I ended up getting 6 chicken and 6 pork. To my pleasant surprise, the tamales are alot larger than I had expected. The hotsauce also was super spicy, which is what I want in a hot sauce. Overall, the tamales really hit the spot and was really happy with my purchase. Love this local mom/pop favorite. read more

Found this little hidden gem today. Ordered two tacos -bacon egg and cheese, chorizo and egg as well as a huevos rancheros con carne plate with barbacoa. Holy cow this was delicious!! All of it!! The chorizo taco was not greasy at all and packed with flavor. Bacon egg and cheese taco? All cooked together on the flat top and inside a soft fluffy handmade tortilla. But the best may have been the huevos plate with melt in your mouth barbacoa with sunny side up eggs. The lady that took my order asked if it was my first time there. I always get the Huevos Rancheros. Actually, I have never found a better place for this dish. Both the Rancheros sauce and the Green sauce are perfectly pleasing. The Green sauce has quite a bite to it and a wonderful unique taste, most times you need to ask for it because it's not on the table. I also add Beef Fajita meat, it's very yummy. This place has a warm, homey ambience, just like if you came home for lunch, breakfast, or early snack(they close at 3pm daily, and 2:30pm on Saturday, so get there a bit early). Service is top notch, fast, and very friendly. Mom is usually there to "supervise ", just like home. The price is equitable for quality and all the perks. (Worth it). If you want cheaper.. there are always random taco trucks, somewhere, but I don't seem to trust them. Lastly: Ask to use nice restrooms, they're for Customers (and family lol) only. Service - staff is family owned, super nice and friendly. Order and Pay at the front, and sit yourself down. 2. Price - cheap and affordable. They have $2 tacos. 3. Ambiance - small, cute, and feels like you're in a restaurant in San Antonio. Dress code here is casual. 4. Food - this is hands down authentic Mexican food. All their TACOS are good, including their TACO SALAD. Perfect portions. If you are not into Extreme Spicy, don't use the GREEN SALSA on your table, instead ask for the mild RED SALSA. They have Fajitas, but I've never tried it. So I can't comment on that. This is not a chain restaurant. It's a small Mom and Pop shop. This is when you know the food is legit. 5. Cleanliness - clean dining area, utensils, and food. Never been sick eating here. This is as good as it gets. I'm going to bring all my peeps here for Mexican food. read more

I was looking for tacos near tennis express and googled this spot. It's 3 dollars for breakfast tacos and 5 dollars for a meat taco. I didn't know it would be 5 dollars a taco here. To be fair the tacos were fine--but at the same level of many other great tacos joints all over Houston serving tacos half the price. I honestly cannot say the tacos are worth paying double. If you can eat with a clear conscious knowing you are paying double the price for a taco, then this is the place for you. You get good service, a clean table and a visually pleasant interior to eat in. I suppose that is what you are paying for. But for me, if I wanted that, I would simply go to el tiempo or pappasitos. I looked it over and was like ok, so I hit the streets and noticed it was only 6 mins away from me, Score! As soon as I walked up to the door and read their sign I knew I was in the right place. This is a good place for tacos. I usually order them to go. This time I ate there. You don't need a sweater if you tend to get cold. The place was packed till 9:30 on Saturday. There are two registers with sign order in and to go. You can stand in one line and they will ask what if your order is to dine in or to go. They offer fountain drinks, Jamaica ( fill your cup with ice and they pour drink from behind counter), also offer bottled water and topo chico. I ordered huevos rancheros which included refried beans, small cubed potatoes, and for a little more a meat side which was barbacoa and choice of corn or flour which were both homemade. Corn tortilla and barbacoa were favorite. The potatoes were okay. My meal with drink was close to $12. If you are on a budget stick to ordering tacos which are good too. He ordered the Menudo and it was all gone. There is plenty of parking though when it gets busy you will need to walk a little more. That's actually good after eating breakfast. I then realized I could Uber the food under a package and get the food that way but the business refused too take payment over the phone. Decided to try Tejas Taco House out this morning around 10:30 am. Ordered 2 Chorizo, egg, and cheese tacos and 1 bacon, egg, and cheese taco. Wanted a cheese enchilada plate (they don't start serving lunch foods until 11, so we had to wait a little bit to order that.) For those of you wondering, there is a $5 card minimum. The breakfast tacos were filling, the green sauce on the table was amazing (not really spicy at all). The cheese enchiladas were very cheesy, and well worth the $8. The rice was tasty (and I don't like rice all that much), but the refried beans tasted like they were from a can. Overall, it was a good experience with great food and will return one day.
