The food was ok, I had the 3 taco plate for $7.99. They were a little small, they were street tacos served with a bowl of bean soup. I didn't use the ice because it's self service and they have it in a small igloo on a table and you use a small scoop that customers touch and put the scoop back in the ice after using it. After reading the reviews I decided I'll try this place out. I got here and there was a pretty decent crowd for 1 PM, I figured I'd try to torta and one Pastor Taco since a lot of the reviews they were good. And I have to say I definitely was not disappointed, the torta was massive packed with fajita meat that had an absolute great flavor to it. All the toppings that came with it we're fresh I didn't look old at all, I just needed to add cheese because I didn't see that it wasn't on it on the menu. The Pastore taco was flavorful and juicy unlike some of the ones I've had at taco stands where it's pretty dried out. I would definitely recommend this place any of my friends. Sidenote the restrooms were clean and the tables were cleaned off promptly after people finished eating. The staff were super friendly and always had a smile on my face. Edit: after having a great conversation with the owner he said next time I need to try three tortas that come with three different meats beef chicken and pork instead of just the one large torta that way I have some variety also if I want it. Mexico's Deli aaaaalmost got 5 stars from me. The service at the counter was absolutely standout. The lady helped me navigate the entire menu and even offered up a couple of non menu ideas. The selection of tortas and other tasty Mexican food is immense! You're blind if you're not seeing something you're craving on that menu. Our entire table was dead silent face first in their food and if there was any left on a plate, it was carefully packed up to go. Really great food from everything I saw among our orders. Pricing is crazy cheap too considering the pile of food you're getting. The one draw back? Cleanliness. The building they're in is pretty rough. Bathroom had a real bad odor going on, soda machine was out of fizz and everything was just on its last leg. So I'm settling with 4 stars based on all other factors which says a lot. I wanted to like this place. Counter service with tacos, a great selection of tortas, plus they serve breakfast! Usually this is a winning combination, but unfortunately my visits from a few months ago have all been letdowns. Both visits have been on the weekend for breakfast. On the first visit, the woman in the register was super friendly. However, the coffee had not been made and wasn't ready to go even though the store had been open for awhile. I also noticed a lot of flies buzzing near the fruit drinks. On the second visit, the door was locked when we arrived after opening, and we had to wait for someone to unlock it. The kitchen staff was late, and it took a long time to receive our food. I didn't particularly care for my mole breakfast. The mole was one dimensional. There were fingerprints all over my plate. Day two working in Houston and I wanted a torta (Mexican sandwich). Mexico's Deli had a few delicious looking photos on the app so I stopped in. Two person crew working behind the counter. A large chalkboard listed about 30+ items from which to choose. The majority were tortas. The lady behind the counter waited patiently for me to read the menu. Apparently, her patience ran out; she returned to cooking the sandwiches while I perused the menu. I typically like to ask for the popular dishes from the waiter when visiting a new restaurant. When I asked her what the recommended dish de jour was, she said "torta, si." Ok, I can work with language barriers. Dusting off the high school Spanish I, I said, "tu favorita?" She said, "torta, si." Ok. Spanish II. "Que is la especial?" She: "torta, si". It became obvious I would be ordering a torta, so I pointed to the pork, pineapple, and avocado torta. It sounded delicious and was also being prepared for the couple in front confirming my suspicions. Knowing it was a safe bet, I ordered the horchata to wash it down. I poured my horchata while I waited. It tasted diluted. I expected a little more taste and sweetness. Horchatas are important authentic Mexican beverages and is the reason for the docked star. It is right up there with the chips and salsa for me. The torta was packaged to-go as requested. Along with my torta was a small bowl of soup with thin noodles. Tasty but the torta was more than enough. A large loaf of bread split in-two and toasted lightly with a generous portion of seasoned pork and pineapple. Avocado between the pork and bread with cheese melted atop it all. Nice. Red and verde hot sauce in containers for that little extra spice if you like was in there too. My first bite and ay-chihuahua! Delicioso. It's coming back to me. Muey bien. Mucho bueno. Ok, I'll stop now. But really me amigos, stop by this little place and get you a torta! I'm not sure when other yelpers come here, but I've never had a wait longer than about 5 or 10 mins for my meal. I've been coming here for about 5 yrs and this is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. The flavor is hard to find for an authentic Mexico City taste. Each torta always comes with a cup of noodles which are yummy and have great broth. My typical dish here is chicken torta with ham, fried eggs & avocado. It is #24, sometimes they feature it as the daily special. Another great choice is the Argentinean lomito which also has fried eggs on it. Make sure to order an agua fresca, or whatever they call it, drink of the day. They usually make four each day and its unlimited refills for like 1.79. You will likely get full trying to eat both halves of the torta. The only downside on my last visit was there was a bunch of gnats. Maybe they need to close the front door or something. read more

One of the best hidden gems located on the westside Houston, Mexico's Deli has been my go-to restaurant for a fill your tummy to the fullest and still have left over Mexican torta for dinner. Right in the middle of a typical strip mall on Dairy Ashford, you will drive by it if you were not actively looking since the sign for the restaurant is kind of blended in. Once you step foot into the establishment, it will first give you a hole-in-the-wall feel, but don't let that discourage you because there's so many tortas for you to choose from, it will make you come back to try each and every one of them. You order at the counter and they will deliver the food to your table, choose from any of the tortas, burritos, tacos, or the specials. Most of the time I will always get a torta as most of them are only $7 and it comes with a small bowl of soup and pickled vegetables. A fair warning, the torta is pretty big and I always just finish one half of the torta and save the other half for dinner. They also have fountain sodas, coffee, and agua frescas. The agua frescas are random every day but most of the time they will have horchata as one of the selection. I have tried many of their tortas and I have not had a bad one yet. There are some tortas that's $8 but with better ingredients, and it taste really, really delicious. One of my favorite $8 torta is the Lomito Argentino, the eggs makes a difference in a sandwich. Seriously, the price for the quality and the quantity of the food is just unreal. Oh, and they also give you a red salsa or green salsa and both are really good salsa to dab it on your torta. I love tacos so much and I feel like I crave them every two weeks. This place is so great because it serves authentic street tacos (and other delicious foods) while being in the comfort of the indoors. The prices are amazing !!! Everything is so inexpensive; three tacos and charro beans are $5. Honestly, ya can't beat that. I got the al pastor and chicken tacos. They were both extremely flavorful and moist. Out of both, the al pastor was my favorite. They're usually served with cilantro and onions but I got lettuce instead because I hate the taste of raw onion. The staff is very kind. My friend ordered a coke in the middle of our meal and the worker gave one too her but said she could pay for it later since the cashier wasn't around. When we were leaving, my friend tried to pay for it but the cashier just said it was on the house. How sweet ! Its located in kind of a random plaza. This was the Yelp pick of the day, this past Sunday. We were the only ones here at lunch time. I didn't know if, despite the 4 stars, that was a sign, but I had to see for myself. They don't offer every traditional or common things you'd find in typical Mexican restaurants, here in Texas, because they hail from Mexico City. There are not chips and salsa, no enchiladas, no carne asada or guisada. Instead, you'll find terms like Cochinita pibil, bistek, and chuleta. ALL GOOD STUFF! I had the Alambre, which includes your choice of of meat (I had beef fajita) served with bell peppers, onions, bacon, and melted cheese, along with a little brown paper bag filled with tortillas. The serving size was amazing and the flavors did a tango in my mouth. Mmm...The salsas were nice, too. They also have drinks from Mexico sitting in huge dispenser jugs on a table. The only thing that lost me was the tortillas (I had flour). If they are homemade, they did not look, feel, or taste like it - at all. That would have been the thing that allowed for a five star rating from me. And that's besides the fact that the furniture was run down and tattered. I'll take great food over great seats any day. It was a vegetarian quesadilla with onions Peppers mushrooms. It was extremely tasty very well put together very easy very filling. the quesadilla comes with a bowl of like some kind of like noodle soup but the soup is cooked in pork meat so for those of you that do not eat pork I would not advise taking the soup but you can trade it in for another cup of non pork broth soup. They also have 3 homemade drinks while I can't recall all the names one of them is a rice drink and another one as a hibiscus tea. I actually paused after my first bite of the fajita taco and gave my boyfriend "the look". The tacos are all very simple --- don't come here looking for cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and all of the other Taco Bell-like fixings that crappy tacos require to be good. Here you will get meat, maybe some onion on top, maybe some pineapple, and you will be happy. I went through a slew of napkins to wipe up the juice because my boyfriend would not let me lick it off my arms. The quesadilla is no exception. It is greasy, crunchy, and tasty, as a quesadilla should be. The tortas are massive; some people say large enough to share. I say only weaklings need to share a torta this good. The tacos changed my life. It's the best I've had without crossing the border. And the kicker? My first five star rating goes to this hole-in-the-wall joint. For about $8 I got some of the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. So my friend and I walk in and it's immediately 100+ degrees inside but it's packed. My first thought is this food better be good if they have the guts to not have A/C in the Texas summer heat.
