Probably the most disappointing item. It was served in a shape of 3 ping pong balls. Awkward. Texture was very pasty like the packaged ones sold in stores. Not appetizing at all. Fajitas mixed. 3/5. Despite the smaller quantity, the beef was well seasoned. The onions were grilled just right. Rice and beans were consistent, although barely warm. The chicken was bland and dry. Every time we come to Sylvia's, it's a wonderful experience. From the customer service center to the quality of the food, we always enjoy our meal. The ambience is lovely and the music is always so good! Today, we discovered that their Arnold Palmer comes unsweetened so I added Splenda and it was a game changer for my sugars! I got to try enjoy my favorite drink with zero sugar for the win. I had the Tampiqueña plate and from beginning to end, it was delicious. I had it with a cheese enchilada and the sauce was unique and flavorful. Did I go to an enchilada restaurant and order tacos? I sure did! After being seated, the chips came out with red salsa and queso. The chips were thin and crispy while the salsa had a little bit of kick. Queso was creamy and very well seasoned. For my entree, I chose the grilled fish tacos which came with rice and beans. The rice and beans were fairly standard and tasted good. The fish tacos were huge! Grilled perfectly and seasoned well, the fish paired well with the corn tortilla. The corn tortilla held up well against the fish which is a plus! My gripe with corn tortillas, other than the fact flour tortillas taste wag better, is that the corn tortillas rarely stay intact. Tonight my family and I had dinner at Sylvia's for the first time as we are staying at a hotel nearby and just wanted something easy to walk to. We were very happy with everything from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere. I had the Alice Enchiladas with the Mexican caesar salad and both were super delicious! I also had a mezcal Paloma that was great too. The kids had a cheese quesadilla with fries and beans and rice. All were super yummy! We finished the meal a chocolate tres leches cake which was huge and did not disappoint. Our waiter Kevin was very kind and helpful. The hostess and wait staff were friendly and professional. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. With that said these good things could not overcome the poor quality of the food served. We've been eating at Sylvia's since she first opened in Richmond Tx. Followed her to both locations on Westheimer and the current location on Eldridge. We've also eaten at the Woodway location from time to time when on that side of town. I'd pretty much stopped eating at Sylvia's about a year ago when we went there several times and e everyone in our group was disappointed with the lack of quality and taste in our various dishes. Yesterday some friends were interested in trying it again for lunch. I reluctantly joined them hoping for the best, only to be severely disappointed in the quality of the food served. The queso with taco meat and chips were tasty but after that everything went straight downhill. Our group was not happy with the entrees we had for lunch. To top it off the Carne Guisada that I had not only lacked the flavor and tenderness I'm used to from various TexMex restaurants all around Houston, Katy, Richmond area; it also gave me severe indigestion and other issues that lasted all night and most of today. Been here many times for lunch with work friends and have had positive experiences in the past. This review is specifically for my experience during lunch on 2/10. I was there with a group of 6. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. My first bite of the enchiladas contained some chicken cartilage, I thought no big deal it happens. My 2nd bite was fine. On my 3rd bite, there was a full on chicken bone. At this point, I called the older gentleman who was working over (he looked like more of a manager or lead waiter) and explained the situation. He said when they make the chicken sometimes this happens and essentially just shrugged his shoulders. I was dumbfounded, I was expecting maybe him to offer to remake it, maybe ask if I wanted beef instead, but nothing, nada. The people I was with were just as confused as me. We were joking that I needed to order the boneless enchiladas next time, not the bone-in. I initially thought the odd taste was due to them being undercooked for my preference, but even after they were recooked, they still tasted slightly off...almost rancid, as if they hadn't been stored properly or were about to go bad.
