This year it was a combo of Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras -- so as you strolled through the Findlay Market complex, you could sample either savory Cajun-inspired dishes, or dessert-themed dishes. You had 2 choices for tickets, either 8 tickets or (I believe) 20 tickets for a higher price. I went with the maximum amount this time, so that I could just impulsively select the samples in front of me without having to ration out my choices. And strongly recommend this method -- it's a great way to throw yourself into the event and to donate to a great organization. And the gourmet made-from-scratch delicacies didn't disappoint. My top fives favorites were: the "Velvety Smooth Beef Burgundy" from Eckerlin meats -- a flavorful stew with fork-tender beef chunks in it, the "Mini Elote" street corn cob (actually half a cob, thus the "mini" part of the name), with a flavorful authentic sauce on top, the "Hogs & Kisses Baby Back Ribs" from Neil Luken Meats -- a huge chunk of ribs (he said he gave me a larger piece than usual to compensate for giving me the butt end of the rack, which I heartily appreciated), the Gumbo from Barlion's Seafood & Poultry, as the broth was amazing, and I loved the ample chunks of Andouille sausage popping up in the stew, and the "Muffaletta Sandwich Bites" from Harmony Plant Fare. Other favorites of mine were the "Bourbon Street Chicken with White Rice" from Artichoke (they had run out of the dish so we had to wait 5-10 minutes until they could make more -- it was worth the wait, as the chicken was plump and flavorful), the "Cocoa Smoothie topped with Strawberry" from the Banasun Smoothie Bar," which was refreshing and perfectly spiced, and the "chocolate Covered Bacon" from Ruby's Chocolates, which had caramel mixed into the chocolate and bacon (and, BTW, the bacon was from Eckerlin Meats, one of their neighbors). All of this, combined with great weather, a band playing jazz, great service, and Findlay Market's wonderful "street fair" atmosphere. Who could ask for more?

This place was better than most of the Markets that I've been to in recent memory! Some of them are bigger but this one is a medium-sized Market to say the least. They have great produce in one section by the parking. Great variety of stores. I do like the outdoor tables as well. The cons I will say about the Findlay Market are the parking. You are expected to download an app and pay for parking that way instead of just getting a QR code that will redirect you and put in your payment information and the other con is once you leave the Farmers Market there really isn't much to really see or do since it's kind of blighted from a 1 block radius of leaving the market

I ordered a Connecticut role deemed as the classic role with warm meat, butter, and lemon on a new England roll. The roll was small, with 2 hearty chunks of lobster. I also ordered the lobster tots. The tots came with chopped lobster, cilantro lime sauce, pico de gallo, and a lime wedge. I'm not a tots fan, but the sauce and pico really took the dish to another level. Although I prefer french fries over tots, I will order this dish again. I enjoyed my food from Cousins Maine Lobster. I'm not sure I will get the roll again, but I'll give them another chance in the future to try the grilled cheese. I spent a little over $30 for the roll and tots. Living in FL, I have my go to places for comparable lobster rolls and dishes at a cheaper price. I understand this lobster is from Maine so there's added cost associated with that. For me, this is an once in a while treat to cure my lobster craving.

I guess we were expecting it to be a little bigger and a little better for the price. It was ok but not worth what is being charged. We both got the warm with butter lobster roll. We each also got the lobster bisque when my husband went back out for more food because we were both still hungry after eating the roll. I also had the Root Beer. I think the root beer was the best part of the meal. It was really good. The lobster tasted good and only some of it was rubbery. I wouldn't seek them out again.

The weather was beautiful, the variety of food trucks and tables was overwhelming but in a good way, the crowd was interesting and diverse, and the offerings were both traditional and creatively fusion-oriented. I started my event grazing with the Taro Cream Baby Puff from Tous Les Jours -- it was unusual, crisp on the outside, cold and creamy on the inside, with a delicious taro pudding inside! For my refreshment I was surprised and gratified to find a mango lassi at Tikka X-press that was perfect -- cooling and tart at the same time. I then got a tender spicy lamb pita from an Indian food truck, but I don't remember the name, which is unfortunate, because it was tender and perfectly spiced. But my favorite was an amazing Vietnamese dish called Curry Laska Loklok Skewers from Tea N Bowl. I thought I was getting a skewer of different fish cakes -- instead I got a flavorful spicy soup the likes of which I've never tasted before, over vermicelli, then topped with that skewer of fish cakes. It was absolutely amazing!! I took a picture of the menu, as I want to try more of their selections next year. And then I finished with a Filipino Halo Halo from Christine's, which was a perfect refreshing way to end this gastronomic feast!! And on top of the food was the celebration of the culture. I loved the diversity of the crowd, as it seemed to have a large percentage of Asian customers. So it was a way for them to celebrate and enjoy the diversity of their own Asian culture, and they allowed those of us who're non-Asian to come along for the fulfilling ride!!

Positives: - A ton of local restos showed up to show their support for the community and Tender Mercies. - Diverse Menu items - I think the cold beer was the only thing holding me together. Negatives: - The event lasted from 11am-11pm. Not a great run time for a venue as popular as Washington Park. Vendors were sold out of food some as early as 2:00. Probably should have seen that coming. - The lines were insane, and when I mean insane, I mean INSANE. I waited in line for around 30 minutes for one item. - It was HOT! Waiting in lines with hot sticky strangers standing next to you. Blarg. Gross. I know they can't control the weather but this just added extra stress. Our group ended up being fed up with the crowds and event after about an hour and dipped into a local bar to rehydrate. High five for your first go around. I hope to see this event learn, grow and prosper. We are so lucky to have so many amazing local bizzes in OTR. Cheers!

I met a friend down there at 12:20 and got a pork bun from Kaze. very tasty! We decided to do the walk around, and places were already erasing items from their menus as they were already sold out. This was probably 12:35. only 10.5 more hours to go! We walked around and wondered why certain restaurants were not participating. The food trucks were there with long lines at the Urban Food Truck. We just decided to head over to Senate and get some grub. My friend and I wondered if the Taste of OTR was just an elaborate ruse to get people down there and parked, then be disappointed by the festival, then go to the brick-and-mortar (actual) restaurants. It worked on us. I even stopped by Rhinegeist for a growler fill on my way out. So yeah, it got me and my wallet down there at least.

Lumenocity 2016 was held at the Taft Theatre this year. What sets this year different from other…read moreyears is that the light show was indoors this year. And, since it was indoors, they were able to offer more tickets for everyone to come and see the event. In addition to that, there were about three-four shows for each day the event occurred, (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Getting to Taft Theatre was pretty easy, and since there wasn't a game going on that weekend it wasn't super crowded in downtown Cincinnati. Parking lots were easy to find. Once you parked, the block party they had in front of Taft Theatre was easy to get to. There were about five or six food trucks, and lots of activities for kids. There was even police presence throughout the festival. This year, you were able to get a wristband ahead of time once they scanned your ticket to expedite getting into the Theatre. But really, it was pretty easy to get in even without getting a wristband ahead of time. They did a great job at handling the crowd before the show. Once inside, it was easy to find your seat. The show started on time which was great! And, it was only 45 minutes which is long enough to be able to enjoy the music, but short enough that all the kids in the audience would not get bored. Seeing the light show indoors was nice, because the lights came out more vibrant compared to watching it outside projected onto a wall. And, you had assigned seating, so you didn't have to worry about saving your seat ahead of time. If you didn't want to pay to see the show, they also broadcasted it outside where the block party was. Overall this year's event was enjoyable. They had some technical difficulties leading up to the event, but it was solved by the time the event started. (The company they used to email the etickets to everyone somehow had their emails come up as spam so a majority of people did not get their tickets by the Monday it was promised. They updated their website letting people know that they were working with finding a new company to send out everyone's etickets. The tickets were delivered on Thursday night).

I was out of town last year at Lollapalooza, sleeping on a boat, when the inogural Lumenocity happened, but luckily I have a friend that was so impressed that he got Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra season tickets JUST to be eligible for the tix to Lumenocity 2014! The event 2014 had food/beer(Rhinegeist) trucks down Race Street, all kinds of vendors, food and Cincy local craft artists in the treed part of the park. This part was open to people without tix to the actual event, and it was food/art festival that was more attended than anything I've seen in Washington park, and I'm there weekly. The show: The show was spectacular. YouTube it. If you haven't been, YouTube the hell out of Lumenocity, and share it. Make it viral. One of the best symphonies in the world, synchronized to amazing digital graphics, using one of Cincinnati's best landmarks(Cincinnati Music Hall) as a canvas. It is amazing, emotional, and one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.
