This will be the last SSOC until spring time, but what a great reason to checkout the local shops not just on main but in OTR in general. The event is intended on taking place rain or shine so the organizers were well prepared for percipitation with covered tents. This is my first time attending the Second Sunday On Main. I heard nothing but positive feed back of this event. This is a festival located on the historic Over the Rhine on Main Street between 13th Street and Liberty Street. This goes on from June to October from noon to 5:00 p.m. It's free! You can't beat that! There are local vendors (soaps, candles, clothing, art, food-teas and bakeries) food trucks, live music/street performers, a beer garden and more. My husband and I walked around and really liked that it was laid back and loved the eclectic items for sale on the strip. Everyone had unique products and very talented. I purchased 4 bars of Vegan facial soaps from Barbara's Atlas Oils for $20.00. That is a great buy and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. The two food trucks available that day was C'est Cheese (specializes in Grilled Cheese) and I'm not sure what the other food truck was called, but they sold finger foods like french fries, sandwiches and quesidillas. We purchased a mini quesidilla from them for $2.00. Stores, shops, and galleries are also open to the public with great specials and sales. Parking is free at the Woodward Parking Lot on Sycamore between 13th and 14th. I look forward to the next event and since pets are welcome, I will be bringing my frenchie with me. Second Sunday on Main is fun little urban street fair. As a resident of North Main Street, I have been attending since the beginning and can say that each year it gets better. The 2012 season officially kicked off in June with record number of vendors. Live music performance and celebrity chef demos are also back this year. Even though the weather was on the warm side, I enjoyed wandering around looking at the booths and finished the day by partaking in a streetpop while watching skateboarders perform. This is definitely a fun Sunday afternoon worth bringing the whole family into the city. I would pair it with brunch at one of the local restaurants or from on of the food trucks and it rates up there as fun city adventure. read more

Second Sunday on Main is great time on the Second Sunday of the month on Main Street in Over The Rhine May through October. Neighborhood street festival with a variety of vendors, local craft beer, food trucks, musicians and people watching. Plus there's a Chef demo at 2:30 by one of the top local chef's where they talk about their restaurant and their passion for local food. Chef makes a dish and normally there's a great alcoholic beverage paired with the dish. Quan Hapa made their house Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), which was delicious, provided the recipe for everyone to take home and try themselves. The Sunday I attended, they featured Art Academy of Cincinnati student art fair, where they talked about their artwork and had work available for purchase. I brought my dog for the "dog days of summer" themed street festival and for a small street festival it was a fun day. The vendor both mainly consisted of handmade jewelry, edible goods, trinkets/decor and random clothing items but there was not too much variety overall. There were a number of food trucks that weren't too busy but had menus that looked delicious. The crowd was definitely a decent size, especially for the hot weather. You could easily spend an hour or so roaming up an down the street market and venturing into the stores on Main St. read more

Second Sunday is an event that runs along Main Street from 13th to Liberty Street in Over-the-Rhine. The entire street is closed and tents are set up for vendors. There are many arts and crafts for sale and bands will play on a small stage set up near 14th Street. Everyone comes down to OTR with dogs, children, friends, and strangers and just enjoys the day. Of course beer is served (after all, what else would you do on a Sunday afternoon?) and the selection is usually varying Hudepohl and Moerlein beers. Art galleries will sometimes open up for Second Sunday and portable food carts and food trucks will arrive. Each month has a different theme. One was Dog Days, another was Indie Summer, and so on. SSOM always feels very bohemian to me. There are a lot of interesting people for sure. Always lots of music and art. Tons of local shops/vendors to check out that make everything you can think of. Not a ton of food, but a decent amount. Usually around three or four food trucks at each event. SSOM is just something once a month to go check out and give you something to do on a Sunday. I've been to Second Sunday on Main a few times, and it's just the perfect community event. I love pretty much anything where the street is shutdown, because it reminds me of old school block parties. At SSOM, there are tons of vendors ranging from food trucks to art making tents to local craftspeople. To top it off, all of (most of) the galleries and shops on Main street are open so you can pop in and peruse. If you usually only go to Main street on a weekend night, you should definitely give it a chance during a Second Sunday. My very favorite thing, though, is how family and dog friendly the event is. I brought my black lab to SSOM for the first time in July, and loved how many people came up to pet her, and how many shops and vendors welcomed her in. read more

Really cool even that happens on the 2nd Sundays on Main St. through the summer I think. My wife and I were heading back from Findlay Market and drove by and stopped to take a quick peek. It was more arts and crafts from local vendors which was cool. As far as craft shows and other public markets go, this one is great for all ages and tastes. I usually run from crafty type things, but all the unique and local themed gifts give me a warm fuzzy feeling and pride in my city. I was able to take my mom through and she was very pleased with it too. This is a great place to buy unique gifts for friends and family as well as those that are hard to buy for. From jewelry, to art and most recently, beard elixir (for MEN...please!), there are lots of options. When the weather is nice, this place is packed so be patient and dip into one of the stores if you are starting to be annoyed by the slow walkers and kids. Between the goofy postmodern dancers dancing in and out of the SUV, the square dancers doe-see-doeing on Main, and the Hudy self-push go-cart-style racing, this month's version was exceptional. It may have taken me months and months to come to Second Sunday, but I'm happy I finally did! I had an errand to run on Vine St. so I figured, "Why the hell not?" and walked a block over to check out the festivities. I expected it to be like City Flea or the Crafty Super Market, but what I found was a lot different! Local artists, designers, jewelers, and bakers/cooks sharing their trade with others. Not only were there plenty of things for purchase, but there were free kids crafts at a few vendors, live music, and so many different things to see that I lost count. I walked there expecting only to grab a sweet treat from Coffee Emporium or Sweet Peace, but I ended up with a one-of-a-kind convertible skirt made from silk brought from India by a local woman. She's a stewardess and does this whole "let me make awesome things from the scraps of Saris!" on the side. Crazy, incredible, and awesome. For $20 I got a completely unique garment. I was very, very pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had, but I did have one little disappointment: it's very small! City Flea, Crafty Super Market, etc. are much bigger and have a wider variety of vendors. Regardless, I never felt that I ran out of things to do or see at Second Sunday... it was just different... and different is good! read more

Second Sunday is a small, but enjoyable street event that, unsurprisingly, takes place on Main St. in OTR on the Second Sunday of each month of summer and a bit into the fall. Running roughly from 12pm to 4pm, Main St. from about 12th to Liberty/14th is shut down (no side street parking there, either) and vendors and craftsmen are invited to set up booths to showcase their wares. Art, jewelry, clothing, home decor, homemade treats and such are the most common vendors. On occasion a non-profit or some such group will set up, as well. Second Sunday has evolved somewhat since I've been going the last few years as different people have run it. In the current iteration, there are a few food vendors, a beer stand, as well as programming of events and music. Second Sunday is family friendly, though there is no guarantee that there will be anything of interest to children. There is generally minimal access to restrooms unless you're fortunate enough to know a Main St. resident. Almost all vendors are cash only and ATMs are not convenient. I don't think you can "make a day" of Second Sunday. It's not at the scale of your large summer festivals. It is a delightful afternoon distraction to browse through for an hour or two. You're likely to run into people you know and might even find an item to take home. A few OTR restaurants and bars will be open as well if you'd like to extend your day. Second Sunday is a great way to introduce someone to the smaller, inmate side of Cincinnati summer events at a low cost and commitment level. read more

I like to go to this with my wife. We poke around the shops on main that always seem closed when we're down there. We look at the crafts that folks make. I rarely see anything worth while but the fun is in the looking. There's always some nice non-chain food vendors selling something to eat and if you get bored it's very easy to find a bar or restaurant within walking distance of where everything is set up. Mostly, it's a reason to have a relaxing walk around on a Sunday afternoon and maybe spend a few bucks. read more

Top stars for second Sunday! I went to second Sunday during the "dog days of July, which incidentally happened to be the theme of the day. By this, I mean there was a dog show complete with puppies dressed in glamorous costumes. I'm not sure if it gets any better than that. Maybe, it gets a little better knowing that Yelp's very own community manager was in fact one of the judges. It is typical for Second Sunday to have a theme, because the mastermind behind this day is just that clever and great. Though it was Cincinnati's gay pride downtown and one of the hottest days of Summer, I'd say it was a moderate turnout for a second Sunday. Normally there are a few more people. Local shops line up there booths on Main Street from noon to five, and shops like Atomic Number Ten and Couture couture put out side walk sales. Notable booths were Coffee Emporium complete with their infamous stationary blending bike, Fireside Pizza Wagon, and Street Pops...Yum! There are artists and jewelry makers as well. It is the perfect place to sample local culture of all kinds, because they are all out for you to enjoy in one place. It was so cool to see the crowd from Pride trickle over to Second Sunday in the late afternoon, because they just didn't want to miss it. Of course Second Sunday happens every second Sunday of the month, and is open to everyone. There is free parking in a lot nearby, which would not happen in most cities with an event like this. It is truly fun and rewarding to see cincy's locals making this city come alive again at Second Sunday. read more

Second Sunday is so much fun. Yelp had a booth there that was handing out pretty excellent stuff! There was live music by a band that was really great! (They are called Hospitality) the day was perfect- bright and sunny. Be sure to bring a little money, because I can guarantee you won't get throughout the shops without seeing something you want. At the very least, you'll say "wow, thats so clever!" a few times. Everyone is there to do what you're there to do- have a good time. Bring a dog, a friend, a lover, (those might be one thing- not that there's anything wrong with that!) and spend a sunday afternoon in a lively part of town! PS. I swear I reviewed this before...apparently in my mind. So here goes again! There are few things in Cincinnati that I know as well as Second Sundays. I'm pretty sure I've been to every one since I moved here two years ago. I live on Main St and normally I'd be irritated about more of our very limited parking being taken away, but for this event--I'm absolutely fine with it! You can find vendors selling just about anything you are looking for (cupcakes, jewelry, scarves, furniture, mac & cheese, skincare products, gelato, clothing, baby items, pottery--and that is not even including the shops that are always there). There is music and a general feeling of revelry. One of the best things about SSOM is the "Celebrity Chef Demo & Tasting". It's held at different locations (join the group on Facebook or sign up for the email list when you go to one); sometimes at a apartment that is vacant, or sometimes at Japp's. Different chefs from the restaurants around town come to do a cooking demo and City Cellars pairs it with a wine, and sometimes you even get an extra cocktail or dessert. They pass around little bites and it's a great way to pick up new recipes and also learn about restaurants. Such a great way to spend the afternoon! As you might expect from the name, it is held the Second Sunday of the month, from noon-5pm, throughout the summer (usually June-October). Second Sunday On Main is such an enjoyable event in Cincinnati's OTR. The August event last week was so much fun! It has the perfect balance of food trucks, vendors and music with plenty of space to relax as you walk around or just find a nice place to sit in the shade for a while as you eat great food discovery. Originaltees is one of the fun vendors to visit. They have great $10 women's tee-shirts that highlight the great streets and neighborhoods of Cincinnati. The Cards Against Cincy vendor not only has the local version of this popular card game but also very cool shirts for sale. The Adopt-A-Plant Garden Center has a beautiful display and encourages people to support bees one of the world's most important natural resources. But I have to admit that it was the little dinosour and troll on the display that made me take a closer look. The food trucks on the north end of Main Street included Hungry Bros. The Kevin Bacon Ranch was delicious. With waffle fries, grilled chicken, smoked bacon and Buttermilk ranch dressing it was an explosion of flavor in your mouth. I loved seeing the skeleton on the Bones Brother's food truck advertising their chicken nachos. The festive live music coming from the the small stage nestled among all the vendors as you walk up the street completes the picture of this cool and fun family event in Cincinnati. read more
