Mexican food is my specialty. So I can confidently say that Taco Viva makes the best tacos in the greater Phoenix metro area. Don't believe me? Try finding a parking space here during lunch or dinner hours. I'll admit we were turned away recently because there was no parking on site. But on a second recent visit, we had to loop around one more time and we found a spot. No easy feat because you'll have to exit back onto Indian School and try again. Once you get inside, you will most likely see a very long line. But trust me, they've got a system that works and while you will wait, they will get your made-to-order tacos quickly. The atmosphere is pure Mexico taco stand. The dining room is bright, colorful, and very clean. There are always tons of employees taking orders, preparing tacos, making fresh tortillas, grilling meats, cleaning, and more. It's a well oiled machine with a great vibe. This was our tenth (?) visit in the last several months and I had to sample my top three tacos again to confirm my favorite. Hands down, it's the Pastor "Con Todo", followed very closely by the Carne Asada. Check out the photos. They don't do the tacos justice, because you can't taste them by just looking at them. Stopped in a few weeks ago for some tacos and this place was delicious! Freshly prepared right in front of you, exactly the way you like it. I would come back but probably get my tacos plain, they were packed. Good pricing and friendly staff!

Cool design and fun place to take the family or just a few friends. There was a pretty long line and we got through it in about 20 minutes; you line up to order, and then get in a second line to have your items assembled. In the assembly line, there were some items that were premade (the fries already had cheese and meat on them, assembler just added guac, so meat looked a little cold). But other than that they all the fixings for you (onion, cilantro, salsa, guac). They gave us a free taco though, for a mistake at the register. Low-key the best pastor I've ever had, they put pineapple in it which always just level up the experience!! Also comes with a crema that didn't overpower the flavors, but balanced it all out. Seriously the best taco I've ever had. I'm telling all my friends.

Wow! I stopped by around 1:30 on a weekday and it was so busy! Luckily there's quite a bit of parking behind. What a cute place! Very lively and clean atmosphere. You order at the front then take your slip to the cooks at the open kitchen. I'm not sure why this step but its kinda fun -- they're very friendly, ask you if you want "con todo" and here or to go, then hand you back your food shortly after. You do get to see the trompo (al pastor pork cooking on a spit - the only real al pastor!) and your food being made. I got an al pastor taco and a gringa (al pastor taco with cheese), both con todo. There's a salsa bar and though the tacos already had plenty of stuff on them, I had to add some salsa as it was so good! There is also a drive through. I'll definitely be back!

Tried Viva Tacos and it did NOT disappoint queso & chips, guacamole & chips, carne asada tacos, AND al pastor... and everything was seriously so good. The guac was super fresh, and those chips were perfectly crunchy. The carne asada tacos were packed with flavor and cooked just right, and the al pastor had that perfect sweet + savory combo. Honestly, every single thing we ordered hit. seven the beans were great. Great food, great vibes, and definitely a new go-to spot for tacos. Came in to try out this place I kept seeing all over my Instagram Got the pollo and al pastor tacos Pollo had a really hot salsa that came on it so unsure if the chicken had any flavor or not. The true star of the show was the al pastor taco! That meat was so tender and full of flavor. I would eat a dozen of them. We also got chips and guac and some beans. Service was friendly and quick. They also took the time to explain some of the menu items. Inside was spacious and clean. Def worth a try!

If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos rather than Tex-Mex, this is the spot. I loved that you can choose between flour or corn tortillas. The al pastor with pineapple was a standout, and the mushroom taco had a lot of potential, but the heat level was too high and ended up drowning out the other flavors. Honestly, my favorite thing on the menu wasn't even a taco, the carne asada fries were the highlight of the meal. Worth a visit if you're curious about what real Mexican food tastes like.

The food and salsas are delicious. Getting there might confuse you. There was a line out the door, so I followed the crowd. Saw some inexpensive merch and their menu and the restrooms. I finally arrived at counter and paid for meal and got a ticket. I moved over but found out I accidentally cut off the ither people waiting so got in another line to wait for the personal customization of my food order. After that was complete I got my coke product drinks and salsas. The Carne Asada and the Al Pastor were tender, flavorful, and so worth going back for more. The only thing I recommend is possibly lines on the floor for direction, and clearer instructions for newbies. I so wanted to buy a beanie, but next time.

Taco Viva is spectacular. Everything was good, well seasoned and had great flavor. Loved the chicken, carne asada, but I think my fav was the Al pastor. The corn tortillas were soft and had a little firmness. The mini quesadilla is cheesy gooey deliciousness. Tip, ask for the grilled onions and peppers on the side. It's free. Ask for the green crema that comes with the al pastor. It's great on all of the tacos, but is only added on the Al pastor. Overall, highly recommend. Friendly staff and happy to make your tacos anyway you want.

Amazing! Delicious! There was a little bit of a line when we walked in but it moved surprisingly quickly. Having a giant menu on the wall made it easy to have our choices ready to go when we got to the register. We had a basic order of carne asada tacos and chips and quac. While our order was simple the flavors were not! The carne asada was flavorful and juicy, the onion and cilantro were complimentary and not overpowering, the salsa had just the right heat to it and the guacamole added flavor and a balance to the salsa. We chose flour tortillas that were made fresh while we waited. The chips and quac came with a good portion of tortilla chips as well as a decent size portion of the most amazing guacamole. For the sizes of everything and the deliciousness, I was surprised that everything was so reasonably priced. All around a great experience and meal, especially on a budget!

Taco Viva is easy to spot with that big black, white, and red building right on Indian School. They've got their own parking lot and even a drive-thru, which is always nice. When we walked in, there was already a long line to order, so you know it's popular. Inside, it's really spacious with high ceilings, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The place was clean, and the staff was constantly wiping down tables as soon as people left. The line moved a little slow, but honestly, it wasn't bad at all. We ordered tacos, tostadas, and especiales. Everything was fresh and really tasty. The especiales were a bit salty, but still totally fine. Our only regret was not ordering more. They also have a self-serve condiment station, which helps things move faster when it's busy. By the time we finished eating, there was still a steady line of people ordering. Even then, it didn't feel too crowded because tables turned over pretty quickly.

So good can't wait to go back. Tried the carne asada, Al pastor, and the mushroom. Mushroom was spicy but good. Place is roomy and plenty of seating. Salsa bar has great flavored salsa. Ever since I got to Phoenix, I have been so surprised at the lack of good, authentic Mexican food. I am thankful to have a friend that helped to enlighten me today, who brought me to Taco Viva. He already raved at how good this place was, and I was more than happy to give it a try. Since it was my first time, I wanted to try one of each of the meat tacos: carne asada, al pastor, and pollo. Ordered them all "con todo", to get the experience of what they're known for. And all I gotta say is: These were probably the best tacos I've had in years. The absolute, most delicious tacos. Of the three, the clear star was the Al Pastor. My god....just pork perfection. I cannot wait to go back and start introducing more people to this place.

This is my first experience at Taco Viva. I put in an online order at about 11:50 am (not really thinking this is clearly lunch hour rush) and when I got to the restaurant to pick up my order at 12 pm I realized my receipt said the soonest I could pick up was 12:45 pm. I went to the pick up window and explained my mistake to the gentleman. I normally don't have issues waiting especially if the establishment is busy but I happened to have a doctor's appointment down the street at 12:45. I was going to cancel the order and reorder or possibly have them move the pick up time after my appointment. The gentleman at the pick up window said my order was small so he would make it real quick, no worries. He gave me a cup for my drink, and by the time I filled my drink at the fountain and grabbed a couple of salsas my order was done and I walked out of there at 12:10. This is the kind of customer service that I never expect and to have experienced it simply says so much about the business. Now let's get to the food! I ordered a carne asada mula "con todo" and an al pastor taco "con todo", both 10/10! The crispy mula, with the carne asada, topped with guac - was just perfect. The al pastor taco had a delicious pineapple flavor that was just right, not too overwhelming and even came with a slice of pineapple. The size and meat portions for each were bigger than I thought they would be, so also very filling! I can't wait to go back for the astounding customer service and delicious food! I'll be sure to give myself enough time and dine in! read more

I stumbled on this restaurant on a whim and didn't think too much of it and I'm glad I did so tasty with so much flavor. I really like the el pastor taco an the mushroom taco--I might be the only one who order the mushroom taco haha--I think. The service is friendly and nice. the way you order food and get your food I have no problem with. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable for solo eater like me. This place surprised me . I ordered 1 carne asada taco on a freshly made corn tortilla it was REALLLY good. And I ordered 1 taco de pastor on a flour tortilla and I will say I didn't really care for that one bc it wasn't spicy it was sweet and not too crispy or charred how I normally prefer it. But chewy so I didn't like that too much .But the tortillas were so goood. The salsas here are really good and flavorful. Also ordered side of beans and guacamole and chips those were tasty. And lastly the carne asada fries we're the best I loved them. The service was great everyone was very welcoming and nice. The restaurant was really spacious lots of seating but all the tables really messy. Taco Viva was great! I didn't know what to expect, but it definitely surpassed my expectations. I like the setup--you order and pay up front and then you move down a line while handing the cooks your receipt and they make your order in front of you. Absolutely Horrible, well the service. The food was not bad but i got a lot of fat in my meat which was unpleasant. The service was terrible. I asked them what came with the food and they told me it had salsa. I told them no salsa and they added salsa to my food. When i brought it up the lady wouldn't take accountability even though i clearly told her no salsa. The manager came up to sort this all out but i got yelled at for ordering wrong. They didn't offer to remake my food and i asked for a refund and they said no. I left with my wrong food and left feeling sad and guilty. 1 star. read more

I love this place so much and so does my family. The place is very clean and the service is fast. Once you order you wait to the left to be called by one of employees and hand your ticket to them. They make your tacos in front of you. I highly recommend the al pastor tacos. They are delicious. Huge bonus is they have employees making fresh tortillas as well. This new taco spot in Phoenix is on Indian School Road. I really love the concept they have set up here. There's no waiting in salsa bar lines. The tacos are dressed as you specify during ordering and when you give the order to the taqueros. I got the asada fries and two pastor tacos. The asada fries were delicious, with the salsa having a nice kick. The really interesting thing about these asada fries is that there is no other that tastes this way. It has a taste profile all its own. Highly recommended. The pastor tacos are really impressive with the combination of the "CON TODO" flavors. This was an amazing taco. I will be back for these many times. I also purchased guacamole, chips, and queso blanco. Both were outstanding. All the staff were nice and made the order quickly. read more

Good food but I would not recomend eating it there. It plays very loud obnoxious annoying music. As for "service" there is none. The diners takes the food order to the table, booth or counter themselves. I wish they would not have it at all but If they would lower the volume of that racket (music?) it would be tolerable but until they do I will avoid going there. read more

Great street style tacos El pastor and carna asada were outstanding. Tomatillo green salsa was the best of many smoked flavors are subtle and spice is medium. Tacos are built right in front of you by one person not slid down assembly line. Don't forget to ask for grilled onions and jalapeños to go with whatever you order. Dining area is simple and the space is not too loud even though it was packed. Highly recommended by this taco lover. read more

We've found our favorite new taco shop in the Valley! The food is delicious. Succulent meats with the perfect char for the tacos. It's hard to choose a favorite. We tried pastor, pollo, and carne asada tacos con todo. All on point. Delicious, creamy beans. The salsa bar offers a spicy variety of condiments. I loved the ordering process, too. You order at the register and hand your ticket to a chef. The chefs are friendly and interactive while they prepare your order and pass it to you at the counter. Fun music. Comfortable seating. Very fair prices and DELICIOUS food. Our favorite was the Al pastor quesadilla. This new taqueria reminds me of one my fav taco places in nyc! You order first, pay, and get a ticket order... then take your ticket to the second line and hand your ticket to a taquero and specify how you want the tacos... but you gotta get them "con todo" (with everything). One of my new favorites! I didn't realize Latinos can cook up killer mushrooms for tacos. Do not skip this place and the mushrooms. Omg out of this world, delicious. All of it is! You can't go wrong. Plenty of space inside and it gives like a modern 50's Mexican American vibe. Maybe it's the coolers for the pop and the colors. Honestly, I love it there. This was my first time here and I absolutely have to say with no doubt these are the best tacos that I have had in Phoenix. I had Carne Asada and El Pastore. They were both flavored so well! The handmaid tortillas were great as well as the beans! I will happily recommend this place :) I also want to point out that it was very busy in there, but it flowed very smoothly and they were getting customers orders taken care of quickly, which was a huge plus. read more

I've only been in Phoenix a short time, but I've already tried at least eight different taco spots--and Taco Viva is hands-down my favorite. The food is always fresh, the customer service is consistently great, and the prices are more than reasonable. You really can't go wrong here. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic.
