I have been wanting to stop in and try this restaurant for a while. I love tacos. So much, that it draws my wife crazy. She'll say, where would you like to eat? Then she instantly regrets it because I burst out, "Who wants tacos?!" Well, I'll tell you. This guy! One of my co-workers thinks I don't know real tacos because I can usually only get the crew to go eat "Mexican" at a fast food chain. The truth is, the real tacos are at places that don't have flashy signs and nice buildings. Which is why I can't get Them to tagalong with me. So of course, the Mrs. agreed to come with me to taco town as we have passed it and I've mentioned it several times. Fortunately for me, she likes tacos as well. We walked in about 6:00 PM and we were the only ones there. As has been mentioned in other reviews, there is an overwhelming heat that is inside. Usually it's a refreshing swooshes cold air when you open a restaurant door on a hot summer day. Not here. Maybe because the space was not particularly designed to be a restaurant. Imagine a large room where someone construct the kitchen and half of it. That's what this is. The leftover space has secondhand booths and tables that are exactly Square or level. We were greeted immediately by smiling waitress, which I believe is the owners daughter. She was very sweet and very helpful. She brought out our drinks immediately. The Mrs. ordered tacos I'll Pastore and shrimp tacos while I opted for the chicken quesadilla with a side of guacamole for our chips. Someone said the guacamole was really good, so I had to try it. The food came out rather quickly, and it was beautiful. I could tell right away that my quesadilla was made with homemade tortillas. They were soft and delicious. The chicken was grilled to perfection on the inside, but I did not detect any seasoning on the chicken. The guacamole was very good as well as the salsa. My only disappointment was the chips. I'm not sure where they get their chips, but they were very good. I hate to say it but even amigos chips are better than this. I was able to sample the tacos my wife was eating, and they were delicious. They had good seasoning and I can't wait to order some myself next time. It was hot, and I hope they get that figured out. Maybe that's a sign of good tacos. There have been several taquerias in the area that have had exceptional food, however they didn't have a handle on their atmosphere. So I can put up with it for a few minutes while I eat really good food. I guess if you want to subpar food and air-conditioning he can go to Taco Bell. Despite the chips and the heat I would recommend this place. When I went to pay the owner spoke with me for a couple of minutes and took the time out to get to know one of his customers. To me that speaks volumes. Oh yeah, he also said his wife makes the tortillas for the quesadillas by hand. How cool is that? read more

Gave this place two chances, each to which I was let down. There typically won't be a large crowd, yet every table will be dirty. I'm starting to assume they don't clean the tables until someone else comes in and needs one. The guacamole appetizer is more of a puréed guac mainly consisting of all onion. Literally, you're scooping onions on to your chip. I'd like to say I'm fairly lenient on Mexican food.. I know the good and I know the bad (decent) and this is just down right bad. I've now tried the tacos, enchiladas, and a bite of my husbands burrito .. all of these options are so greasy & have no exciting flavor. My wife and I Stopped in one recent Saturday night to give the place a try after hearing good things. I was a bit concerned that for a place that touts to have the supposed best tacos looked more like a taco ghost town. Part of the dining room has these really nice high top tables and the other half is these cheap, worn out dining sets that look like Aarons Rent A Center set out by the curb. Based on the decor I thought I might have made a bad choice, I decided to not let this affect my judgment having remembered that place in Mexico that had plastic patio furniture, no A/C and a waitress that smelled like she was trying out a new rose /cumin perfume, but had the best tacos and guac...anyways. We ordered the house guacamole. I actually questioned whether or not it actually had guacamole in it. It was just loaded with onions and tomato. Not at all what I would consider authentic or even good Four main entree my wife played it safe and went with steak burrito, but me... No I just had to try something called the Machete. I usually have a rule "don't eat or drink anything named after an explosive or blunt object". This rule obviously came into a effect after my single years of drinking jagger bombs, Irish bombsand whatever else that goes boom. In all honesty it looked really good, but after getting it I understood why they call it a machete,because that's exactly what it feels like going into your gut. The outer is a long, thick flour shell almost like a flat bread folded over to fashion a dough machete. It's filled with meat and cheese etc. I just couldn't get through this prison shank. I picked through the filing but even with steak and chorizo it just missed the mark. It lacked any depth of flavor and tasted like run of the mill Mexican food. My wife said the burrito was (shrug) "not bad, i guess"not really the response you want unless you just prepared hamburger helper with tuna instead of ground beef My opinion is there are much better options around that in fact serve authentic style food for the same Price or less. Finally was in the area and stopped in to try the food. I ordered two tacos to go, one al pastor and one camarones. They were cooked to order and as it was during 'happy hour' (2-5), they were 1.50 each instead of 1.99. I asked for some hot sauce and when she bagged my order, she was kind enough to give me a red and a green hot sauce, which were perfect. Both tacos were yummy and fresh. I especially like the fact they are made with corn tortillas. My only regret is that I wasn't hungry enough to try other menu items. But for $3.29 including tax, it was a very reasonable and very tasty treat. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the food. read more

Stopped by for dinner tonight and I was not disappointed. I like supporting local mom and pop businesses and this is exactly what it is. The service was good. My waitress (I think she's the daughter of the owner) was very nice and friendly. I ordered 4 tacos: the asada, al pastor, carnitas and shrimp. They were all delicious but my favorites were the al pastor and shrimp. In fact, I ordered another shrimp for good measure. The salsa was chunky and fresh. Their sign says "We are the best taco of the town" and they couldn't be more serious. Traditional street tacos at their finest. My personal favorite is al pastor, but they are all delicious. If you want to stray away from the tacos, try the burrito supreme. It isn't on the menu, but trust me they'll know what you're talking about. They do have some issues with their central air conditioning, but it is so worth it for the food. Their salsas are amazing, and the really hot sauces they have in the back are just the right balance of heat and flavor for a true hot sauce enthusiast. I STRONGLY recommend you get tacos al pastor, squeeze a slice of lime, add just a bit of salsa verde and just a spoonful and a half of the orange hot sauce they offer (pretty sure it's habanero).
