I've been a loyal customer of Taco‑Tex in Jarrell for a long time because they usually have great service, good food, and affordable prices. But today's experience was really disappointing. I ordered 5 tacos, including 3 potato and chorizo tacos. What I received were tortillas filled with only potatoes -- the chorizo was completely missing. I don't set their prices, and I'm always willing to pay for what I order, but I expect to actually receive it. On top of that, the rest of the tacos were cold, and the fajita meat was hard and dried out. This isn't the quality I'm used to from this place, and it honestly makes me unsure if I'll be returning. It's been awhile since I found a random eatery that was this great. On our way home from the state karate tournament, and the boys were hungry. The yelp reviews were so/so, but not enough to deter us since I didn't want fast food and wasn't about to drive around. The decor is beautiful. I mean it's a a hot mess in a good way. The sinks are outside of the bathroom, I mean you can literally see everyone wash their hands which when it comes to employees is a great thing. The staff is soooooo friendly! I think we caught them and the cooking staff on a good day! Them menu is small but with just enough choices. So it made it feel simple yet with just enough variety. Prices aren't too bad either. They had this salsa cart, with sooo many sauces,some just spicy for no reason and some outrageously delicious! We had the asada burrito, asada mini tacos with beans, and I had the ranchero asada plate. We also had the chili con Queso. The burrito was so big and crazy good. It was worth all of the $8 and more. My nephew could only finish half! Shame on you chipotle and any other burrito establishment! My son's mini tacos were also great! I also forgot to mention they serve black beans here! Yes BLACK BEANS! They were sooo good! I love black beans, and made this way even better. Anyone who travels here knows in deep Mexico they serve blacks beans. My asada plate was spectacular! I was actually blown away how a place this small in almost the middle of nowhere can produce a plate like this. This is what a hot asada plate should be. This blows away all the Jalisco/Guadalajara joints here in town! It had cheese, onion, beef, and chorizo. It was also enough to keep me full! I was happy to pay the price on the menu! The Queso was the only semi bad thing we had. I mean it was good, but felt cheap. Oh well. The negatives(besides the Queso), because we all have them. The honesty of the staff on none of the tortillas(corn/flour) were made in house was appreciated. Yet that was would have put them in to the stratosphere! They even managed to make the store bought corn tortillas taste good they were warmed up!! If you are coming in from north Texas, it's a pain to get too! A personal negative is that they are nowhere near me. They had all these drink specials, yet I was on the road home, and wasn't about to do that! Service was attentive for the order but I ended up out of my seat going for toppings and condiments for two of us numerous times. Don't even give any salsa with the complimentary chips (not homemade).. No clue how long items had been sitting in the cart since the restaurant is open for breakfast and it was after 5.. Ordered tamales and carne asada tacos to share. Both served with black beans - just ok. The chicken tamale was flavorless and even salsa did nothing to improve it. Masa with shredded chicken was hard to cut and eat. Ended up just eating filling. Mostly flavorless. Pork tamales were very dry and forgettable. The Tacos were small corn tortillas (not freshly made) with no toppings and very dry meat. No sauce or cheese on anything - had to go to the condiment cart for toppings. There were red and green salsa choices and radishes, diced onions, and cabbage on the cart but no cheese. Filling up small disposable containers so you can dip a few chips or put on your entrees is a hassle. Have to wait for other customers doing the same thing so food sits. There were a number of other customers so someone does appreciate food from this restaurant. read more

Food was absolutely delicious and you can tell fresh. My family ordered a barbacoa torta, carne asada burrito, tacos de barbacoa, asada y pollo and it was so good! None of meats were greasy or nervy at all. Just yum! My kids also enjoyed their kids plates as well. I appreciated the little salsa bar were we could help ourselves to whichever salsa we wanted as well as the typical toppings such as, cilantro and limes. Customer service was excellent- the gentleman was kind and attentive. Enjoyed the atmosphere - was clean, modern and cute. The first time my husband brought my food home I freaked out. I opened the burrito to black mush. I thought someone had messed up cause I had no idea what I had. Then I realized....they use black beans instead of the normal pinto beans for the "refried beans" but I tried it and omg I never knew I could love mushed up black beans! Gave me a new outlook on black beans. Always heard they were bland and gross so I stayed away... but they were "chefs kiss" Easily the best breakfast burritos I've had in as long as I can remember. And I was born and raised right here in the area. And this place blows Ernie's and Jaliscoes out of the water! They have always been super nice and fast with their service. My hubs works night shift in Austin and comes home early in the morning so he is always one of the first costumers of the day for them and they always have everything ready and able to order; the salsa bar, the queso which is amazing as well especially for 5:30am queso lol and all the meats they offer. The employees are always friendly and have smiles on their faces at 5:30am when they open. Never sat inside and ate but the place seems nice and clean and relaxed. I wouldn't mind it one day. It's just always so early when we go that it makes more sense to go home, eat and sleep cause night shifts aren't fun. So highly recommend this place! 5 ! It's my favorite place to eat Mexican food in this area. They make your burritos and tacos how you like to eat it. Being Asian, I always request to add rice. These little details make a huge difference for me to enjoying my food. Recently visited as a friends suggestion. Sadly food is mediocre . I'm fairly certain the beans were Rosita's from a can ! Presentation alone was sad . Asked for chips and salsa. They brought out a huge plate and the salsa was nice and chunky. I ordered street tacos. The onions were perfectly grilled and the jalepeno made me instantly regret taking a bite as my mouth was immediately on fire! The nachos were made with different chips. Those were light and tasted delicious. The cheese sauce was tasty. My son ordered tortilla soup. While I wish they had a kid size for a 7 yr old, the large bowl was well worth $10. It was very meaty and had a delicious blend of potatoes, cheese and avocados. They were happy to give us to go boxes since we couldn't eat it all. The staff was polite and the food was pretty fast.
