Best Mexican food in neighborhood, I've lived here for 25 years and it's the best by far.

The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a mezcal margarita (fruta picanta) and my friend got a mango cocktail (mangasa). I liked mine a lot, my friend didn't care for the tajin rim on hers, and the waiter offered to replace it, but she stuck with it and liked it in the end. There were so many great sounding things on the menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options. We ended up splitting the calabaza- an acorn squash stuffed with mushroom risotto and also the wild mushroom tostada. The calabaza was great for winter, warm and filling. The tostada was lighter but really delicious, it was probably my favorite of the two. It was a great dinner, that I would definitely visit again if I'm back in town.

Thank goodness we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Meyah was super friendly. We started with a few cocktails ..one being the Oaxacan Old Fashion..smokey and delicious. We tried their Market Ceviche which was on their Weekly Specials menu..Cured Mahi Mahi Brazilian Papaya,Tangerine Habanero sauce served with Sweet Potato chips.fresh and delicious. For our entrees we tried the Barbacoa Tacos and Blackened Fish(Tilapia) tacos. Both entrees were 21.00 for 3 tacos but no rice or beans on the side so a little pricey in my opinion. Street parking is a challenge but they do offer valet for 5.00. They have a fantastic patio that is open in the summer so we will definitely be back to enjoy a few cocktails and Latin American eats.

The vibe inside is perfect for an intimate evening or afternoon lunch. Dark wood seating, an ample sized bar with dim lighting makes this a comfortable, chic spot. There is street side outdoor seating; however, there were no table umbrellas during our visit. The staff greeted us immediately and was happy to review the menu with us. We had the mole with roasted broccoli and cauliflower, unicorn pescado tacos and a Plato Fuerte with shrimp, lobster and chicken in a tasty creamy sauce. We loved all of the entrées; however, thought the mole was a lacking the traditional mole flavors we've tried before. The unicorn fish tacos were the standout and were crispy and delicious! We also appreciated the 4 taco serving, which was perfect for two. Prices were on point with other similar style restaurants in Oak Park, slightly elevated but fair for the quality of ingredients. Let's not forget the cocktails...outstanding!

On the downside, the bone marrow was undercooked, and we actually found a piece of aluminum foil in the mac and cheese that was prepared without truffle (menu states truffle). They remade it but it was a miss for us. The tres leches was underwhelming and a bit dry. Service was good--our waitress was attentive--but she didn't seem to know the menu very well. For example, we were told the street corn wouldn't be on the cob, but it was. Overall, some hits and some misses. Ambiance is ok - there's nothing that stands out. Drinks and mains were good, but a few things really missed the mark. For the price I don't think I would return.

We were seated & given menus. The waitress asked us about drinks but did no suggested selling of anything, did not mention lunch specials or enlighten us about the many flavors, sizes of margaritas. They brought out chips & salsa for the table & we ordered a side of guacamole. It was made table side by was very bland. It lacked flavor & was underwhelming. It needed salt & more lime juice. Another waitress approached our table to take our meal orders. She was quiet, spoke very little English & couldn't answer any specific questions about the menu. Our drinks arrived. they were good but nothing spectacular. 2 members of our party, ordered tacos & 2 ordered chimichangas When our food arrived, we dug right in. My Chimichanga was dressed up nice from the outside but the minute I bit into it, EEE YUCK!!!!The filling inside lacked flavor & meat tasted like rubber. It was filled with pureed refried beans. The beans were overly pureed & running out the burrito. None of the ingredients binded together. The consistency of beans to meat ratio was not well balanced for the filling thus making the dish terrible. I also noticed a huge amount of oil/grease soaked into the shell, which made it impossible to enjoy any further. The chimichangas were overall, made poorly & were disgusting!!!!. There was too much oil, indicating the grease was not drained from the burrito after frying & the filling's consistency was off. The consensus amongst my entire party of 6, was that the steak meat in all of our dishes was over cooked, very tough, hard to chew & was not seasoned. The bill came with so many add on charges that we had to inquire about. The waitress need to inform guests that chips n salsa is not complimentary after 1 basket, specific flavors of margaritas cost different prices & "suiza" (cheese) on dishes is an additional fee. Most sauces (sour cream) usually accompanies your meal. It should not be an additional charge for those. The bill was altered, finalized & paid after discussing the many add ons that were not mentioned up front with the waitress. In closing, this place does not meet the mark for Mexican cuisine. The chips n salsa & margarita was ok but the food was bland & overcooked! No reason to return to Margaritas ever again.
