This location is so hidden, I often forget it's there. Parking is limited but it's right next to the bus stops and train station. The donuts are always so delicious and filling. The intoxicating scent of fresh pastries fill your soul as you enter and it will make you want to buy a dozen. We love Firecakes! On this occasion, I stopped by to get a half dozen for National Donut Day. These are definitely a little on the pricey side for donuts (a little over $20 for the half dozen) but it's so worth it! For one, they are LARGE donuts. The quality is impeccable and they are so fresh, even near the end of the day. I love the variety of flavors and unique concepts the do! It's a super cute little spot, it might even be nice to sit and work out of there if that's your thing. I came in to get my normal iced coffee which has always been about $5... today i paid $7. Your coffee is officially more expensive than me going to starbucks. I'm all about supporting small businesses, but this price increase is insane. Also Its very misleading and unethical to charge customers more for coffee and the price be reflected cheaper on your price board. My cofee was supposed to be $5 as stated on your price board yet ur employees stated the price had increased!!! By $2!!! of course I paid for the coffee without noticing that the price was a lot higher. U need to update your prices immediately because had I known that this coffee would've cost me seven dollars I would've chosen not to purchase it and you cannot be charging customers more and not have a correct price listed on your price board. Coffee is great employees are awesome but you need to get that fixed ASAP. The bacon maple sliders are fabulous, but you can't place orders over the phone and you can't order the sliders for pick up because the online menu is incomplete! The only way to get sliders or a chicken sandwich is through Gribhub delivery. So I'm paying extra to have something delivered I walk over to pick up. read more

I appreciate that the menu wasn't overwhelming with about eight types of donuts and four flavors of ice cream/sorbet; a couple of classics with enough unique choices to make it interesting. They found a way to elevate an original vanilla glazed donut, and they nailed it - with those delicious vanilla pearls on top of this flavor. They have a larger variety of donut flavors for those who prefer cake donuts over yeast. Periodically, I get a caramel latte with oat milk and that is always delicious as well. The workers there are always so helpful and friendly. They have a few seating options if you would like to enjoy your donuts there. The location is very convenient as you could get some while running some errands or for dessert after your email in downtown Oak Park. Located right next to a parking garage and target, the perfect place to stop by to grab a coffee and get some errands done. First time here, I was so mesmerized by the pretty baked goods. Service was good and fast, we were the only ones inside at the time. Cute little shop with minimum seating. Not recommended for any alone studying time. We stopped by here when we were in the area. It was closed for a bit when we first stopped by but it opened up after a bit of waiting. Utterly mediocre. I tried the gluten-friendly (we had called ahead and been assured that it was gluten-free) chocolate donut. The description had been extraordinarily appealing and the reality paled... but I still expected some enjoyment. The donut was gummy and they were stingy with the mousse topping. The dark chocolate flavor was regrettably one note. Gluten-free as an afterthought is really a waste of everyone's time. This one was vegan as well and it just felt like an attempt to check a bunch of boxes without actually creating anything special. We recently grabbed donuts from Firecakes to-go for our fam! The line was outside and they were only allowing one customer in at a time. We came on a Saturday morning about 10AM and there were already a few people in line outside. The inside space is a little tight so I understand why. Parking here is plentiful. It is right by the target so the lot is a good size. The shop had social distancing reminders on the doors and throughout. The staff were all wearing masks when I went it. I got a half dozen mixed donuts at $16 before tax. We got the chocolate iced, buttermilk old fashioned, pistachio old fashioned (x2) , chocolate old fashioned and the vanilla sprinkle. My husband's favorite was the pistachio old fashioned because he liked the good crunchy outside and soft inside of the donut. I actually like my donuts fully fluffy so my favorite we tried was the chocolate iced. It was a pretty thick donut so it could have used a bit more icing. Overall we liked the donuts but we thought that they were a bit pricey. We'd come back and probably only try one or two of the seasonal donuts instead of the mixed half dozen. read more

DESIGNER DONUTS The Lexus of baked goods is a delightful addition to Oak Park. Located right next to the Harlem CTA stop -- and directly beneath The Emerson ('sup home!) -- Firecakes is a small counter service spot for coffee and decadently over-the-top donuts. I'm thankful they sell the rising type instead of those heavy cakey concoctions that I hate with a passion. We've tried the donut ice cream sandwich ($5.25) as part of Oak Park's Thursday Night Out. A glazed yeast donut with some vanilla ice cream smooshed in there, it's sugar overload and hurts the teeth (both the sugar content AND biting cold ice cream).....I wouldn't recommend it. Fortunately, their other items are pretty cool. The banana split donut ($3.15) is stuffed with fresh banana creme (real 'naners, none of that artificial flavored crap) and weighs nearly a damn pound. The crème brûlée donut is special too, filled with legit vanilla custard. Earlier today I got a 12oz chai latte ($3.75) that warmed me up nicely. They sell a gigantic two-tiered "birthday cake" donut for $12.50 that's covered in multicolor sprinkles and contains god-knows-what inside, serves 4 normal people or 1 really fat dude. Plenty of donuts get rotated in on a seasonal basis, so look out for pumpkin spice sh*t during autumn and peppermint mocha during the winter holidays. The frosting decorations are cute and worth paying a little extra for. I'd rate Firecakes higher, but the few times I've stopped in they appear understaffed (only 1 person at 9am on a Friday morning, who was simultaneously manning the register AND making lattes/taking orders). They should hire more employees for faster customer service, as the line can get long-ish. * TL;DR * Coming here for a morning treat on the reg will likely break the bank, which makes Firecakes more suited for special occasions. A dozen of their highfalutin donuts can run $20-30, so prepare yourself for some sticker shock if you're buying for the whole office. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Deluxe donuts come at a cost, though they're unique and mighty tasty. read more

Let's just get one thing straight: they're just donuts. Really tasty donuts--but still donuts. For anyone who's giving less than 4 stars, what were you expecting? Don't put all your hopes and dreams on a donut; leave that for your unborn child. Also, they're not THAT expensive. No one should be calling these "tiny" bc they're pretty sizable. Think Do-Rite size. So for a pretty large donut, I think $3 is justifiable--but I'm just a millennial who spends all my savings on avocado toast (is that still a thing?) so what do I know. I love the fact that Firecakes opened up right in front of the Green Line Harlem Station! Makes it super easy to get my donut fill before and/or after work. A little too easy even... I've had the chicken sandwich and the donuts here and both have been pretty great. The old fashioned donuts are absolutely delicious and I love that there are several different kinds of them! I know, they're definitely not low-cal or healthy by any means, but I'm not stuffing my face with donuts in hopes of getting my daily nutritional quota met. (Obviously I'm eating them to fill a void in my heart.) My favorites are the pistachio and classic old fashioned donuts. The triple chocolate is also pretty solid. I was in need of something sweet and found Firecakes Donuts on Yelp. I decided to try it out because of the amazing reviews. Unfortunately, I am disappointed about my first visit. There was not a variety of donuts left at noon. There were possibly 7 different options of donuts left. They were mostly the "basic" flavoured donuts. I decided to try out the Pistachio , Classic Jelly, and sprinkle donut. I will say that Firecracker donuts are very FRESH! I really love a fresh donut!!! Pistachio donut is sweet. I love the sweetness and the crumbled pistachio on top. I believe, I tasted a hint of lemon ( But I'm not sure). It's the best one I ordered! Classic Jelly... I love the filling! It was sweet but also tart. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it. The bottom of donut was falling apart. It was so soggy and I'm assuming it was from the Jelly. It was messy and I couldn't take the soggy bottom. Sprinkle Donut was very BLAND. I would like to visit again and try some of there seasonal donuts! read more
