This review has 2 parts. The first is for when I just eat there in general. This is my favorite Mexican food place in the area. I don't eat meat and dairy so am always looking for a Mexican food spot that has good veggie options. This is my go-to spot. They have a few different veg options. They are tasty AND reasonable priced. At this point in life some places are charging $4 a taco which is a bit much. This is hands down where I go when I want Mexican. The second part of the review has to do with my Mom's 80th birthday celebration. Tacos 76 has a nice sized event space connected to the restaurant. As my Mom likes Mexican we decided to host her celebration there. Ricky was SUPER helpful. He walked me through everything - how many we could seat, suggested quantities of the food and drinks. They even ordered more tables and chairs to make sure they could accommodate the number of people (we had around 70). They were also willing to supply any other items needed like tablecloths, etc. You have plenty of time to come in beforehand to set up. They really took care of us and my Mom really enjoyed herself. The guests also enjoyed themselves and were very complimentary of the food. I highly recommend Tacos 76 not only for when you have a hankering for Mexican food, but also for your event needs. I try my best to support small business. This is the second time I have come to this location where I have notified them telling them my food was salty or burn and they always have a smart comment like you're the first person to say that it's salty or my manager taste it and she or he said it's not salty and you're the only complaint. Well maybe you and your costumers don't know how real authentic Mexican food taste or yall lost your seasoning power and use to people not speaking up. I am Black American and I'm sick of the fact that there is no black restaurants and when I go into a taco spot for an American style taco I get charged ridiculously extra Chat Gpt said .50 cent for a tablespoon of Sour cream is thinking I gotta support you with no consequences. Also I asked for them to add strawberry syrup in my Horchata they said they don't do that and said we sale Strawberry Matcha Horchata so I bought but I literally saw her pour the syrup I asked the manager and instead of him trying to correct the scam he tried to keep the ball running and say he got me next time I come if he's there. I'm never going back and I'm going to use my Loud mouth to make sure my American people don't continue to get scammed for an American Taco if y'all got to charge extra be reasonable because chat got gone cause y'all a case. Also I waited a good amount of time for her to prepare my drink and my food was lazily served and it was buy the register the entire time she was making my drink gave me my drink and my food is in bag literally laying on the cash register opening or somewhere near it was very unsanitary but since my food was wrapped in bag maybe I'm over exaggerating the sanitation because place seemed very clean just very disrespectful to a black and or American. read more

I really don't want to say this but it's the first time that Mexican food disappointed me. The tacos were bland and salty, the beans tasted like salt, the rice was not good (uncooked and bland), but the service was attentive and the place is super clean. If you are not picky about your food I would say go ahead. But if you are a foodie and you know what do you want from good Mexican Food, this is not the place. I came here with a girlfriend who is kind of new to the Oak Park area so I came to visit as well as get a bite to eat w her as we always do. I love me some authentic Mexican food so when she gave me the option to choose and she sent this as one - all I had to do was take a look at the menu and see that this was going to be it! We walked in and I again peeped the menu to make sure and I automatically knew this was going to be fresh & authentic. They have a variety of things to choose from including breakfast. I went with the burrito - Idk if it's just me, but rice does not belong inside the burrito lol, but it may just be how I grew up! So I politely asked to take it out and something that surprised me was that they offered it on the side! I've never seen that and I appreciated that. My friend did the same with her rice & beans inside the burrito - she asked for it on side. This somewhat gave us more food in a way haha or made it a "meal". I would say that they should put their sauces on the table rather than serving them in VERY small paper cups. The place itself looks like a cute chipotle esc restaurant but just a bit smaller. We used Tacos 76 to cater a party for 60 people and it was fantastic - the tacos were a huge hit (we got a mixture of carne asada, chicken, veggie and fish) and guacamole - we got a full pan and it was gone in no time - SO good! There plates are my favorite! Super good steak the Chicken was a bit salty but they'll replace if asked for. Had the fried fish tacos, was super disappointed to find out they were frozen fish sticks with hardly any fish. They should be called fried bread stick tacos. The actual toppings were good, and sauce was good but the frozen fish stick was disgusting. Hope they change to fresh grilled or pan fried tilapia or better quality fish. read more

Living in OP, you don't have too many food options. I had seen this establishment plenty times prior and decided I would go for lunch with a dear friend of mine. On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, we walked in to your standard taco spot and thankfully it was empty. Had a couple of patrons enjoying their food. We both order the steak burrito meal for the cost of about $15. Our food arrived almost instantly on serving trays to dine in and my friend and I were instantly taken aback. They gave two small paper ketchup cups worth of salsa. The green salsa tasted like mustard was in it which I've never tasted before. Also my burrito was coming apart. Too watery and wouldn't hold together well. On first bite, the steak was cooked too long; it's crispy and chewiness was a turn off. The girl was gracious to give us more salsa which we used to masked the lack of flavor. I think what's baffling about how unauthentic this place is is the fact you're charged for every little thing. To get giardiniera in a cup was like $4.75 which was wild to me. I'm interested to try their alcoholic beverages and maybe a different dish should I go again read more

We had a super delicious, hot, and fresh lunch today! I got two veggie tacos on corn tortillas plus beans & rice, and a bottle of Mexican Coke. My date had two al pastor tacos. Both meals were a hit. We both agreed the refried beans were a tad too salty, but otherwise everything was perfect! No wait to order, quick service, spotless & cheery dining room, and friendly staff. But, Tacos 76 is not one of my favorite places for tacos. My first time visiting and I wasn't impressed with the food. The service is super nice and the place is nice and clean. I've had it with this place. The flavors are good, so I've tried to be understanding, but I'm sick of coming home to find my order is wrong. It's one thing that I've paid extra for things that aren't there, but it also doesn't seem to help to ask that they hold things. There's only so much checking I can do to make sure the burrito doesn't have the cheese or sour cream I asked them to leave out. Saw this place posted by members of a FB group that I belong to so I had to check it out. The place was very warm and welcoming, clean and organized. Ordered the corn in a cup, a steak taco and a chicken taco and a watermelon margarita. One word- YUM! Everything was excellent!! The corn had the right amount of toppings, the meat in the tacos was tender and well seasoned and the watermelon margarita was fantastic!! Excellent customer service from the staff as well. Came here with the family and we really enjoyed our meal. I love the old old school vibe of the decor. The large windows made the place feel very open. I had three tacos. Al pastor, carne asada, and fish. All were delicious, but I did find the meat tacos to be a bit on the salty side. Seems to be a common sentiment in the reviews. The chips were okay. For the most part I liked my tacos (chicken, carne asada, and poblano) but they were definitely all VERY salty (same with the salsa..good flavor but WAY too salty). Carne asada was my favorite as the chicken was just really spicy and all dark meat. Compared to other tacos places in the area I'm not sure that I would choose this place over another. I just didn't see the value for a place that doesn't have table side service or generous portions. We ordered one three taco dinner at $15+ and then three single tacos ($13+) and chips and salsa ($5) and a soft drink. Our total was $39.
