The food definitely didn't taste like fast food, which was a good thing. I had the street tacos and my wife had the steak burrito. The food had a real Mexican vibe--nothing "wow," but still good and satisfying. I personally felt the meat could've been better, but my wife had no complaints with her burrito. The biggest downside was the wait time. It was late at night around midnight, not busy at all, and we were the only car in the drive-thru. Even with about 5-6 employees working, it took almost 25 minutes from placing the order to getting our food. SO GOOD! The crispy tacos are clearly freshly fried and so delicious but are entirely way too small for the price. So many places use the pre-made corn tortillas shells that are similar to taco bells, and are just so unauthentic! If they can just make their crispy tacos a little bigger would be AMAZING! It was bound to happen. One of the many hundreds of Mexican restaurants in Texas has gone corporate, Taco Palenque. I have mixed feelings because without establishments like grimaldi's, a single location mom and pop business that went corporate, I'd have to travel to the northeast to eat real pizza. But with grimaldi's, the independently owned mom and pop restaurants have such a loyal following that grimaldi's is not a threat, and grimaldi's is targeting locations that don't have great pizza. Hopefully the same is true for Taco Palenque, but they seem to only be targeting locations that already have texmex. Perhaps they should bring this style of food to places where it's more rare? Stopped here for a breakfast taco (definitely no taquitos here, see the name). They gave the the "brown" hot sauce and Pico de Gallo. This is the first place in Corpus to give Pico by default. They also had red and green hot sauces. The tortilla was thin and rubbery, by far, the thinnest and rubberiest tortilla I've had. The bifold tortilla was slightly smaller than average, but was overflowing with eggs and beans. This was one of the only greasy tacos I've had in Corpus. The eggs were not scrambled per say, but fried and Chopped up and mixed with the beans, like Hiho, but way more. It was hard to eat in the car and I wish they used a larger tortilla. The hot sauce had just a hint of spice, but was tasty. Unfortunately, it was no match for the huge amount of filling, and was overshadowed. If you're in Corpus Christi, I have no idea why you'd eat at Taco Palenque when there are at least 100 locally owned options, unless you want rubbery tortillas. read more

The bean and cheese tacos are bean and cheese heaven. I love all things bean and cheese and this is what I've been searching for my whole life. It comes in 2 tortillas (a la street tacos) and is filled with melty bean and cheese goodness. My personal kink- I take off the outer tortilla, you know, because of my low carb lifestyle hahaha. I've realized I'm going to have to fly back here to Corpus Christi once in a while just for these beany-cheesy delights. (I'm a travel nurse here till June 2022). And guess what? I ordered through Uber Eats four steak tacos beans and refried beans. They sent me a bowl of bean juice with three beans in it and one jalapeño and the rest was juice my taco. We're missing the onion and cilantro and lime. The side of refried beans is enough for one chip for $.75. First time to TP so I can't speak to "how it was when they opened compared to now" as some other reviewers have done. WAS going to get BBQ but the place I wanted to go to was swamped and I'm not that patient. Did the drive-thru line. The first sign that's supposed to give you some ideas while you wait to get to the speaker rotates a bit too fast IMO. Once I got to the ordering sign/speaker, it was fine. I placed my order for something I'd be familiar with since I'm a newb for this business. Two chicken fajita plates. Just under $27 bucks. We've been using another TexMex joint recently, so I know that $25-$27 is around what you should expect to pay nowadays. Thanks economy!! The wait was a little on the long side, but not terrible. Fortunately there were only a couple of cars ahead of me. I get home with the paper bag with handles...nice packaging all around...and pull out some smallish Styrofoam plates and the rest of the sides/condiments. Plenty of red and green sause, tortillas packaged separately for each plate and plenty of napkins as fajitas and tortillas are finger food. Keep "small" in mind. The chicken had really good flavor. Not dry, not greasy and not heavily spiced. But cut into rather small pieces. The beans and rice were packaged in plastic snap-cap containers to prevent spilling...that's fine...but they were kinda small. The tortillas stuck to one another as they cooled, cuz lard hardens pretty quickly. The beans were on the runny side, but had good flavor. Kinda purree'd. Rice wasn't dry. The guac was homemade which is always preferred. Nice fresh guac. Overall, we enjoyed the food but for the price thought there should be more of it. I had that impression when I removed the 'smallish' plates from the bag and ended with that impression when I finished my meal a lot faster than I usually do a plate of chicken or beef fajitas. We thought this place looked good. The menu board is difficult to read prices. The prices are ridiculously high for the serving size. There were 3 in our party. We ordered separately on the same table number. The first two of us got our food pretty quickly, the third order took over 20 minutes to get her food. The person delivering the first two meals spoke to us in Spanish-maybe-but with a mask over his face and the background noise, we could neither hear him nor understand what he was saying. The food finally arrived per the manager and he explained that they'd run out of meat. No compensation. I just put up one more star because the you g man in the dining room came over and explained he'd only been in the US for a year and a half and spoke very little English. I did drive thru here and it took REALLYYY LONG. Turned off the car twice - one when taking order and one while waiting for the food. The gave us the horchata first and half of it was just a lot of big ice cubes. I finished half of the drink while waiting for the rest of the food. Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining. It can be expensive but worth it and they do different deals on different nights so it's worth checking them out before you order. They have an app too. If folks actually value these reviews please take note. This location has the worst service, which stinks because the locations in San Antonio are fine. Please don't go they the drive thru lane, I've been three times with a 45 minute wait each time. I would have gotten out of line to leave but your trapped. I've even gone in and not much better, I can't understand how you can a drive thru with only a few cars can take 45 minutes. On a bright note, the Super Fideo is excellent when you can get it and their other food is good too but the diet time makes it not worth the visit. Good luck if you try this location. read more

I called Taco Palenque to place a to go order. I asked what would best feed 5-6 people. They suggested the fajitas and reassured me that they came with everything we would need ( I was Interrupted several times by the worker while speaking with him). They told me to pick up at 4pm and before I could ask the price they hung up. My husband showed up to pick up the order and they spoke to him minimally. In fact, they handed the food to him while talking to someone else and making no eye contact with my husband at all. He gets home with $91.00 worth of fajitas and ZERO tortillas. I sent him back to get the tortillas, they handed him a total of 5 tortillas.... He had to demand more... and now all of the food is now cold.
