We're often in Corpitos and always looking for new spots. Found this via IG and wanted to have a go at their barbacoa. We finally went this past weekend and the barbacoa did not disappoint. The wife had their barbacoa plate and came with 2 eggs, beans, potatoes and 2 tortillas of your choice. I had a bite of the barbacoa and it was pretty good. By good I mean it was well seasoned and not greasy and plenty of meat, not a lot of fat. I had their pork chops plate which also came with 2 eggs, beans and potatoes + 2 tortillas. Like the wife's plate, the eggs, potatoes were good but the beans were also excellent. The only issue I had was with the porkchop. It came out looking pretty spectacular but one bite and I was turned off. It tasted "off" and not like pork. I thought it was just me but had the wife try it and she made a look when she tried a piece. Needless to say, I did not eat any more of it and left most of it on my plate. The place was buzzin when we went as there was a line and a 30 min wait. Service was great even though they were super busy. Their salsas are pretty legit and provide a nice flavor addition to your dish. read more

There is a Waite time for this Texas monthly featured restaurant. I got what they are known for, their barbacoa taco. It was pretty good.Like most barbacoa a little greasy but very tasty. The tortillas seemed to be homemade and very soft. Most people are quick to eat in here as they are aware of the line. They had a good special one barbacoa taco and cup of menudo for $8. read more

ROACH IN MY TORTILLAS. The service is always unfriendly even though I try to be friendly and kind and helpful here, I'm always met with short temper or attitude. Never a welcome or thank you ever. I've been here 5 times and they have the best Barbacoa but it is always dirty and cluttered inside. The roach was the icing on the cake. I can't come back here anymore. Came here to try out a spot that I've had on my list for a long time. I arrived at about 11:15am on a Saturday and the place was packed. I guess it is on a lot of peoples' lists! I decided to get take out since all the tables were taken and their was a line of folks waiting for tables. I decided to get something with a lot of different food choices so I could sample through them. The taco was very good. The shell was better than usual. The tostada was great. The enchilada was one of the best I've had! I should have gotten an enchilada meal and I would have been a whole lot happier. The gravy was groovy and the cheese enchilada was surprisingly beater than the meat version. Pro-tip: Don't go to the restaurant counter if you want take out. There's a special window/booth thing to the left that specializes in taking out a TON of food if that's your choice. Go over there and you have a lot of other good options. read more

Got a tip from a friend about this place. I was blown away. Best hangover breakfast ever. This is our new go to Mexican breakfast in corpus. I had the barbacoa taco and cheese enchilada plate. The flour tortillas looked and tasted homemade and were large and in charge. Barbacoa was amazing, not greasy at all. Perfect amount of fat nicely accented by onions and cilantro. Enchiladas amazing. Their barbacoa is the best. I always buy the cheek meat and it's not greasy or too salty! The tortillas are the best in town I don't eat flour tortillas, but I do theirs! They are thin and homemade. First let me start by saying the barbacoa is delicious one of the best in town, but for the tacos they are stingy with what they put in them. I've placed orders several times and each time it's like they just spread the beans thin and not even a scoop of eggs as if they don't have enough eggs to go around. That's ridiculous! Service was fast. Barbacoa was really good. I tried the all meat & it was awesome. I tried the flour tortillas and I could've gone to heb that would have probably been and improvement. The corn tortilla is probably a better choice. I would've given them five stars if it hadn't been for the flour tortillas. I will definely be back to try the corn tortillas. Barbacoa it's more than a meal it's a tradition. As far back as I can remember it was friends and family eating barbacoa every Sunday after church. As they say, a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. The barbacoa at Southside Barbacoa has won my heart. The barbacoa was tasty, tender not stringy moist but not greasy and tasted just as good the day after. The establishment was bright clean and inviting. The staff made me feel welcomed and yes loved. I was blown away when the lovely attendant actually told me their barbacoa was served with love. Probably the worst barbacoa we've ever had. We ordered 1 pound of mixed barbacoa. What was served was a pound of meat that looked it had been put through a blender. Nevertheless we gave it a shot. Bland, is probably the best thing we could say about it. The texture was like eating potted meat wrapped in a corn tortilla. The pound of barbacoa with a pack of 10 corn tortillas cost $10. For a few bucks more you can find a number of places in the area who actually know how to make real good barbacoa. read more

I had wanted to try this place for a while and I finally got around to it. The place was jam packed. That's usually a good sign. I was a little confused where to order and I think I went through the wrong door. The lady behind the counter wasn't super friendly, but not rude I guess. I ordered a pound of barbacoa, 12 tortillas (4 Xs more than necessary but the least amount they offer on the board), and the sides. The first bad sign was that they give lemons, not limes. A small thing, but strange in my experience. I have eaten barbacoa all over south Texas and northern Mexico for many years. I like to get the mixed because it is usually more flavorful. I saw the barbacoa and it didn't look great. When I got home and tried it I found it was worse than it looked. It really was the worst barbacoa I have ever had. I would say any one of the dozens of taquerias in CC has better. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten the mix. Not sure. But I won't try again. read more

Hole in the wall type place for quick meals. Smallish menu but what is on it is done well. Good tortillas and breakfast taquitos. Barbacoa is well done as well. Only small issue was my breakfast ribeye was a little too well done for me on my steak and eggs order. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff.
