As two former Californians constantly chasing that SoCal Mexican food fix, my husband and I were excited to try Tacos Norteño for takeout--and it absolutely delivered. From the outside, the restaurant is pretty unassuming, but if you've spent time eating at authentic Mexican spots, you know that's usually a good sign. Inside, it's small and quaint and honestly feels like you've stepped into someone's home kitchen in the best way. We ordered plain bean and cheese burritos to-go (a true test for any Mexican spot) along with a small order of chips. While waiting about 10 minutes for our food, we loaded up at the salsa bar. We tried four salsas: roasted tomato, enchilada, habanero, and tomatillo, and every single one tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. Serious salsa bar goals. If I had to rank them, the roasted tomato and tomatillo were my favorites, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them. Then came the burritos. One bite immediately took us right back to the LA food trucks we grew up with--simple, comforting, and exactly what a good bean and cheese burrito should be. Finally, a bean and cheese burrito that tastes like California. I wish I had taken photos, but honestly... I was too excited and dug right in. Safe to say we'll be back soon. I ate here for the first time earlier this week. The food was really tasty. I had chicken nachos and a chicken chimichanga. The queso was the star of both of these dishes. It was rich and creamy. The chimichanga crust was delicious, a bit sweet with a nice fried taste. The salsa bar had a ton of options, ranging from mild to hot. The service was quick and the atmosphere was that of a classic old school Mexican joint. The staff offered the nachos at a discount, stating that it was normally a different weekday special but that they would honor it for me, as an inticement to try the dish. I'm glad that I did. It was filling and tasty, with a nice ratio of toppings to chips throughout. The restaurant was fairly large with ample parking and seating. We were in the area and after I did some research, I found this place on Yelp and we decided to head over. None of us had ever been there so we were eager to try. Walking in there's a counter, where you order before you sit yourself down. The girl at the counter was nice and patient with us since it was our first time there and everything sounded amazing. After placing our orders, we noticed there was a complimentary nacho station with salsa bar. All the sauces and toppings were fresh and delicious! Once we got our food, we were amazed at the portions of the tacos. The flavors were great. I got 3 Al pastor tacos and it's what I've been craving, after having disappointing tacos at another location just the other day. These tacos hit the spot! We will definitely be coming back! I wish it wasn't so far from where we live for those days that we have that quick taco craving but luckily for me, it's close to my job! This is a seriously underrated Mexican restaurant. Even my friends who are Mexican had not known of this place and were grateful since there's no many places in central Florida. They are a family owned restaurant that brings that aesthetic and charm in this restaurant. It's nostalgic to restaurants I remember growing up seeing. You know it's gonna be good when walk in and they have everything you need for garnish your meals out in the middle. I got some chicken, barbacoa and steak tacos (one of each) and WOW were they good. It was unbelievable how delicious and fresh they were. Their sauces were also noticeable fresh as well. The service was fine. Nothing memorable as the lady took our order and that was it. The rice & beans were good. The horchata was a miss for me unfortunately, it tasted a little soapy? Nobody wanted to drink it and I was upset I spent $5 on it so I was really trying to like it but it wasn't working... Taco Norteno is a little building on West Colonial Drive (State Road 50) in Winyet Garden, Florida that would be easy to miss. However, if you were to miss it, you would miss out on a great place for tacos and other Mexican favorites. The ordering process is that you order at a counter and they give you a number (kind of like a barbecue place) and you grab a table. They bring you your food (and I will say in a quick amount of time). I encourage that you swing by the salsa bar table and help yourself to their variety of salsas, onions, cilantro, etc. and properly dress your taco. I also like that they had sour cream and lettuce if you happen to like an Americanized taco. I personally am not a fan, but I know a lot who prefer to add lettuce and sour cream. The tacos here are definitely Solis and they are decently priced. The tacos are about three dollars a piece. I saw a burrito at a table next to me and the burritos looked good, as well. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. The ambiance is just plain restaurant with a tv. Nothing fancy. Plain seasoned entrees with avocado. There is a stand with a variety of sauces and lime. If you're anything like me, you like tacos. Also, I'm sorry. This unassuming taco shop in Winter Garden is serving up some of the best tacos in Orlando. They have a variety of protein options and they're reasonably priced. I ordered 5 and was just over $15 which is a great deal. I opted for Corn Tortillas as I think they're a little healthier than flour, and ended up with a Lengua, Asada y Chorizo, Pollo, Al Pastor and Barbacoa (which I typically don't order but the legend Jefe H. recommended it). They were all delicious on their own. The tacos all arrived with just tortilla and meat, and it was up to muah to decorate these things with all of the lovely toppings from the Roy Roger's style Fixin's bar. I added fresh chopped cilantro, onions, sour cream, pickled onions, guacamole sauce, pico de Gallo, and some other misc. stuff. I felt like I was back in elementary school putting glitter on macaroni, only it was more flavor on top of flavor, and tasted twice as good. There's also a warming cabinet filled with small trays of chips for the taking and dipping into a variety of salsa's available. And some of those sauces can pack some heat, so be aware before you pour it all over your meat. This was a perfect stop after a few beers at Crooked Can, and a cheaper option than some of the places at the Plant St. Market. The staff was friendly even for someone showing up 20 minutes before closing, and I was out the door and they locked it behind me (not sure if it's because they were closing or because the didn't want me back). I may make this a regular stop when I'm in the area, which isn't that often as it's a bit far. But if you want great tacos, seek and you will destroy some! read more

This place is the real deal, the flavors are great, the ambiance is what you expect from a real traditional Mexican spot. My issue of why I docked a star is I paid $25.xxx for a dish with a drink. To me that's on the expensive side, I get this same plate in many Mexican spots(some call it Bistec Al Mexicano) here it's called Ranchero. That side bar is where you can get any & all additives - lettuce, onion (cooked & raw, diced), peppers, several kinds of salsa, etc. Sorry, I now realize it's not from the best angle. Although I have a personal opinion that hard shell tacos are better, easier to have, these were pretty damn excellent. And, like I said, the sides bar truly helps you create the taco you WANT to have. The quesadilla was nothing but PERFECTION. Got flour tacos : -Barbacoa: a little bit fattier than I'm used to but still tasty -carne asada: seasoned very well and good pieces of meat without the cartilage and toughness you sometimes find at other taquerias - Lengua: super tender and flavorful. Not as seasoned as the other meats but didn't need to be in my opinion - Asada + Chorizo: yummm - Pollo: moist, a touch on the tougher side but won't fault them for this Only downside was that their margarita tasted so artificial with what was clearly a mix. Probably one of the worst margaritas I've ever had. Just cone for the food. All the salsas and the toppings were delicious. We stopped in 30 minutes before closing, but that didn't matter- all the food was fresh, tasty and available! We are Southern California natives, and we are always looking for a good Mexican place that satisfies. They have free chips and salsa, which we were so happy to hear! We ordered a lot of tacos, and it's just the meat and tortilla (they make the corn tortilla in house and they are very good), but you get to add all of your toppings and sauces at the topping bar! Everything was fresh and flavorful, juicy, and it hit the spot just right! It is Mexican food, but it isn't too heavy which is so great haha.
