The service was quick and our server was great about giving us recommendations. We opted to get the Los Botanitas for a sampler and everything was so good and tasted super fresh. We also got the birara tacos. There was plently of meat and the portion sizes were perfect. The cesar salad was suprisingly so good! The crispy chicken on top was a perfect addition. The vegeatarin burrio didn't feel like it was lacking. It was filled with an appropriate amount of veggies and avocado. Dessert/drinks: The oreo cake was so rich and delicious. All the margaritas were made well and not too boozy.

It turned out it was a great find though itnwas kind of weird being carded for a Mexican restaurant and them allowing my 14 year old in anyway. I went with the enchiladas and these were phenomenal! I loved the mild chili type sauce that smothered them to give them a smoky taste. Salsa was chunky and had a good flavor to it though it seemed like I was never given a lot. But I was able to eat as much as I want so it worked out. The best item I had though was the queso. Easily some of the best queso I've ever had with the creaminess and street corn in the middle to add to it. Unfortunately I wished they had a Horchata since that is my go to since it's so difficult to find sweet tea at a Mexican joint in the Midwest. If I'm in the area again, I'm coming back for the queso.

The mango salsa was complemented perfectly by the goat cheese placed on top. The combination of flavors worked extremely well together. The rojo pozole isn't pictured, but it was just as good. The spices were perfectly balanced, there was a great amount of chicken, and it came out at the perfect temperature--hot enough to enjoy, but not so hot that you have to blow on it before every bite. Make sure you make a reservation because the restaurant is small and fills up quickly. Overall, this is a great spot, and I'd definitely come back.

The food specials were amazing, the owner was incredibly generous with special shots for the house, and the staff went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. In a city full of exceptional restaurants, Estrella Negra truly stands out as an adorable neighborhood gem. Beyond the great food, drinks, and service, it is the exceptional hospitality and warm "family vibe" that make it a special home away from home. We cannot wait to return.

(This perception was enhanced when I picked up my pace after getting off the bus and followed a pair of hipsters and those two guys wheeled around anxiously and made sure I wasn't a threat.) This place has wonderful hospitality and great huevos rancheros, and was a lovely refuge on a Saturday night when my plan B was reading a book. My server, who speaks primarily Spanish, interpreted my confession that I speak a mixture of Spanish, Italian and French as meaning that I'm probably best addressed in Italian, and saluted me on may way out (after I had spent two plus hours with my nose in a book and a succession of infusions of Mexican chocolate and brandy, the first of which was on the house), with "ciao, buona notte." The whole thing was a joy. I want to go back and I live on the south side near the lake. If I ever move to West Humboldt Park I want to live above it.

The overall flavors and textures went well together tho The shrimp taco bowl was interesting, portions were good as our server said it was essentially two tacos in a bowl, containing plenty of shrimp and toppings. That being said, I think i still preferred eating it in taco form lol. The shrimp itself was a bit lack luster- they're small, seemed to be plainfully boiled, and it didnt feel like they were the star of the dish when mixed in with the toppings The burrito itself was savory and pretty good, jampacked with meat and good ratios of filling. No complaints Overall had a decent meal at Lonesome Rose, although the service could've been a bit better but we also dined outside during busier hours so I understand. One thing to look out for are the added fees when paying via the platform that the qr code takes you to. We opted to pay in person and had to go inside to do so (couldnt find our server for a hot minute). Regardless, I would return as I think Lonesome Rose has got a better experience to offer next time around

The place was half full and the staff was very friendly. You order at the counter, they give you a number and deliver the food to your table. My wife ordered their Skirt Steak taco and their Sweet & Spicy chicken taco. The skirt steak came with roasted tomato salsa, arugula, queso, lime and cilantro. I'm sorry but what the hell is arugula doing on a taco? The chicken taco came with honey yogurt, cucumber, jalapeño, onion and mint. I get it. Im all for reinventing traditional dishes and perhaps making them healthier but this ain't it. The steak wasn't seasoned right, the any flavor the chicken had was hiding behind the mint and the cucumber. I ordered their Fried Chicken Burrito. This was a little better, but it also had arugula. The "tres queso" was like melted cheese. I thought it was going to come with a more traditional queso sauce. The habanero hot sauce was non existent. Anything habanero should always pack some heat. I'm obsessed with habanero. And trust me, I tried hard looking for it, it was not there. No heat. IIt also came potato chips on the side. Nobody is craving potato chips with their damn burrito man. Some tortilla chips would have probably been better. I'll admit, I wasn't a big fan of their menu prior to coming in. Still decided to stop in, but don't believe I'll ever return. And I get it, I'm probably not the palate they're trying to please. I am not the person they are catering to. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But this just isn't it.
