Stick with the Tacos.
I am not sure why I tagged Taco H to begin with. I kind of think because it was off the beaten path and had "taco" in the name (two positive points I might look for in a food spot).
Less than the title of simply "restaurant" and a notch above "hole in the wall," Taco H is very low key, a touch "ghetto" (I say that in a cool authentic way) and very local, not to mention bright yellow on the exterior. Upon walking inside, things are maybe more a touch worn down versus not clean, but that is all OK by me. Worn down like this building space has been countless other stores/restaurants before it was Taco H.
The young girl behind the counter ready to take our order is Hispanic and has a youthful enthusiasm to be organized, on it and make a good impression. I already like her and am glad we stopped in. One orders at the counter, you take a seat and they will bring your food items to you when they are ready. There is nobody in the dining area when we arrive around maybe 1pm on a Friday. Not sure if this is a good or bad sign.
It appears the birria tacos are the ones getting all the momentum on online reviews, so I make my red meat eating husband order for himself. Tacos are small street taco size but also packed with flavor. The birria tacos are served with a savory red stew like dip. My husband says they are good. My Cameron tacos are again street taco size, have heat and with chopped shrimp and also have good flavor. So we say thumbs up on the tacos.
Stick with the tacos.
Not that the other items we ordered were bad, but not as good as the tacos. The chips and guacamole come with a creamy avocado spread in lue of traditional quac (they were hot and good, just know that about the quac to manage expectations). The bean and cheese tostado is light in consistency and light on the tongue with lettuce being a touch watery, but for $2, it is a steal. The quesadilla is as expected, served with fries and nothing noteworthy.
Maybe a strong 3 on Yelp versus a 4, but I am going to consider the off beat, local, hole in the wall category of this place and give them a 4, all things considered for what it is. Tacos did not disappoint, although other items in our meal did. As stated, stick with with tacos. read more
