When I don't know what to do with my day, or I have work to catch up on, I go to Tov and go from there. Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. Very enjoyable for someone who normally avoids ice or chewing on ice.

I always forget which one I like best. I wish they had a flight. I'd also like to come back and try their beans - they have many bags/options - but the lattes are too tempting.

I placed my order and the barista let me know about a vegan cold foam alternative. The drink was great and the matcha paired nicely with everything in the drink including pandan, coconut flakes, and vanilla. The interior was clean and there were plenty of places to sit. Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. Overall, highly recommend if you enjoy flavored lattes.

Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. With multiple couches (one of my main criteria for a coffee shop) and free wifi, this is a place to work, meet people, and slow down. Great long hours - they're open 6am-6pm.

I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside. Tabor Space event staff are very rude and intrusive to couples getting married on their wedding day. They interrupted our wedding multiple times causing problems including preventing wedding photographers from capturing the ceremony. The lighting in the sanctuary and commons room were flood lamps and way too bright causing terrible visual impairments to all guests. The audio and sound in all areas are not muffled and very difficult to hear other conversations as any sound or voice is overly amplified. The only good thing about this space is that it was clean and cheap. People visiting the space randomly walk into private event spaces who are not invited. Event staff don't redirect visitors away from venues and event spaces and don't seem to care if non-invitees wonder into weddings and receptions disrupting events. The parking is so far away from the entrances that food gets cold. Take your wedding to a better and more special place where the event staff are professional and considerate. Definitely do not have your wedding day here if you want beautiful photos taken as the sanctuary lighting is high fluorescent flood light bulbs that turn all people shades of blue and red and green. Not natural. No natural lighting enters the stained glass from outside either. The space has false stained glass windows that are boarded up from outside. No privacy in the Bridal Dressing Room at all with a large glass window in the door and broken and missing blinds on window peering outside to street. Brides and bridal parties must dress in tiny bathrooms instead. read more

I would like to start by saying that Christina Myreck was wonderful. She was such a great help at our event. She made sure everything was set up and worked perfectly. She is definitely an asset for your business. On the other hand, I had a terrible experience with Brandy Velasquez. She was unresponsive when emailed and called. When contact was made with Brandy, she was rude. She made it clear that I was bothering her by asking her questions about the rental spaces. Even though, she not once reached out to me to set expectations about the space rental. And lastly, she knew nothing about the history of the church. I am a business owner and would not tolerate such inappropriate behavior to my customers. The Sanctuary and Commons are both great for spaces and I would recommend them to others. I would just forewarn them that they would receive horrible customer service from Brandy Velasquez. read more

5 stars and I'll tell you why... I absolutely love the atmosphere and the people. This isn't a hipster spot, but there is great coffee (Ristretto). This isn't near many cool shops, but this is a great space; cool little hallway in the bell tower is the coffee shop, but then there's a massive commons area which is killer. Depending on the time of day it can be like a library or a community gathering. This place has great coffee and a great space. And great f-ing baking too! It's a non-profit that's all about building community, so when you come be prepared to pay by donation (there are no set prices). Free wifi, great space, great coffee, great baking, great people... Tabor Space is a great place to have a reception or function. Great "Portland" vibe with very nice traditional and comfortable vintage furnishings inside. A fireplace and beautiful stainglass windows accentuate the decor, and an espresso bar with GREAT coffee highlights the atmosphere. Highly recommended for any event you may have - can accomodate 100 people I would guess. read more

The Oat Milk Latte was very well poured, with the latte art seahorse quite artfully done! The Pourover was also super delicious. They have a variety of options, so make sure to ask what beans they have available. The staff is extremely friendly and is knowledgeable about their coffee, and definitely have a heart for service! Next time I am in this part of town, I will be sure to visit again!

They were friendly and served as a great ambassador for their overall mission. The prices were competitive and their baked goods were tasty. Their official grand opening is in early June, but the innovative space has opened its doors to local businesses for a soft launch in the North Montavilla neighborhood. I love the concept behind Stone Soup and I strongly believe in their mission of "building economic stability for people experiencing barriers to employment." They've been operating for several years in another location, and already have a strong track record of changing lives. This Montavilla location allows their trainees experience with public-facing food service in a cafe setting, serving a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options - in addition to coffee and tea. There was a limited menu available during the soft launch today, but I thoroughly enjoyed my slice of banana cake with cream cheese frosting, as well as a steaming cup of fresh coffee. The interior space offers bar and table seating, and visitors will find even more seating outside. The cafe is a cornerstone business on the first floor of the new Glisan Landing residential complex, and it marks the beginning of a new age of development in this part of Portland. Three cheers for making a positive impact in the community, thank you!
