This is a really cool place. The atmosphere and the people are welcoming and accepting. There's a coffee shop attached to the space, so you can enjoy a good drink; while, you are relaxing, studying, or working. There's also a sanctuary place which is is the chapel itself. It is so comforting to be there. The coffee shop area has multiple seating arrangements which suits every taste. Best bass gets loud because different groups meet there, but for some reason it's not annoying. The bathrooms are clean and private which is a plus. read more

We used this venue to do a concert of classical chamber music. We had a horrible experience. There was a huge party going on at the same time, with loud music and screaming children. The fire alarm went off twice while we were there, people kept wandering into our space, and the other party obviously didn't know that there was another event going on at the same time. The venue could have warned us beforehand, or put us as far away from the other party as possible, but they didn't. We asked for a refund, but were refused. We won't be using this venue again, and I would warn others against it as well. read more

Very nice place. No sugar free options at all so if you are diabetic this not the place for you. If you are not diabetic or can have sugar this place looks and smells amazing. Very neat non profit and they are tied to the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. If you are reading this, even just having stevia packets available would give people an option. Was there at 3:02 pm and wanted to get a coffee. The person in the coffee shop rudely told me they closed at 3:00. I later went to an event there where the coffee shop brewed some to-go containers of coffee. I thought the coffee was hot. That's the best thing I could say about it. I wasn't impressed. In the space itself, employees were not very friendly at all. Cool church though and great concept. read more

A pretty chill coffee place and also a place to sit and study or just relax. The baristas are very friendly and accommodating. The menu is pretty simple and the prices they listed are "suggested" prices. The prices are reasonable for what you are getting. The Genmaicha tea I got was good, especially for the cold morning. I've seen the sign for the coffee shop located in a church on Belmont plenty of times and today I finally tried this place out. The location is unique, as it is located in a church. I was greeted by an employee when I walked in. I ordered a vanilla latte (no size option so I got a generous big cup for $4, vanilla syrup cost an additional 50 cents). The latte art on my drink was a nice touch and pretty to look at. Plenty of options for seating in an open space (long tables, couches, small circular tables). The environment was not too busy but there is a constant amount of noise (kids and large groups). If you're able to zone out then the noise isn't much of a problem. I enjoy the natural lighting in the space and it has been a pleasant experience! I wish the space was open later past 3 PM on weekdays. read more

Tabor Space is an amazing community coffeehouse. This church while still active, has essentially opened it's social hall to the public. It's a huge space with plenty of tables and great atmosphere. I haven't tried the coffee here because I'm not that much of a coffee drinker but from what people tell me and the other reviews on here, it must be pretty good. They do have a great jasmine tea. Some of the staff is pretty friendly, others not so. Everything is by donation and it seems to work for them. We have also seen some awesome shows here. This month we've seen Ann Weiss, blues singer and guitarist extraordinaire, Gideon Freudmann and his electric cello playing the music for an old silent Buster Keaton movie, Sherlock Jr. Last night it was Ann Weiss again along with fellow blues performers, Alice Stuart and Mary Flower. These women brought the house down with a standing ovation and encore. It was super cool. I'm still really trying to embrace the whole toddler thing and here it can be overwhelming. I'm learning to handle it but the one thing I haven't quite come to grips with yet is mothers and parents who let their 3 year old run rampant and disturb other patrons. I guess if you want to hang out at Tabor Space, you live with it. Or, you can go somewhere else. I'm sure some of the mothers would be very happy telling me where to go. Tabor Space makes the cut. It's a great place to Wifi, get your morning Joe, and just hang out for awhile. read more

Awesome volunteer run coffee shop, lunch counter and community space. Free wifi - ask a volunteer for the password. Lunch counter open M-F from 11-2. I stopped here on the way back from cycling around/over/through Mt. Tabor. There is a space to lock your bike, but you could probably bring it inside if you ask nicely. Everything is also donation based - it's pay what you want and they have suggested prices. I had coffee upstairs, then wandered downstairs and had a grilled cheese and apple sandwich with a bowl of soup at the lunch counter. The food was super fresh and all the volunteers were super nice. It's definitely a community jewel. I wish I had a place like this near me. read more

Taborspace has grown to be one of my favorite coffee spots in Portland. This developed from the free latte coupon in the Chinook Book. They make excellent lavender lattes. I also like that they have seasonal lattes at times. Ooo, and they sell Bakeshop goods. The space is excellent. Cozy and inviting. I love that they feature local artwork on the wall, often by kids. I highly recommend discovering Taborspace next time you're in the area. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to TaborSpace. Large open space, really pleasant, suggested prices were reasonable, soup was good, and volunteer was friendly. I enjoyed the stained glass windows, but the religious symbolism might not be for everyone. Similarly, I liked the group of people that assembled to play music, but it wasn't super great for studying (so I put my headphones back on- no biggie!). This is one of my most favorite hangouts in Portland since 2011. When I was still living in Northeast Portland I made pretty much a daily 5-mile bike ride each way to Taborspace. This is more than just a great not-for-profit coffee house; it is also a very inexpensive place to hold events. I have seen over years the rise and fall and reemergence of this place, with several changes in leadership, but for the most part it stays true to its original vision. (Disclosure: I am a former Taborspace volunteer over 5 years ago, and also I had my art exhibit there.) Having said: 1. Very limited vegan food options. 2. Somewhat overpriced everything -- Taborspace has this obsession with sourcing from the upscale "artisanal" vendors, which is pretty nonsensical. 3. I know this is a church, but Sunday afternoon hours should return... it used to be open on Sundays in the past and people would play games of Go. read more

I've been coming to Taborspace for years both as someone renting classroom space or things I taught and also someone who just comes in to utilize the coffee shop. I don't think I have a single bad thing to say about Taborspace from all of that time. The space is gorgeous, the coffee shop makes some amazing drinks (I usually go matcha latte with almond milk) and the snacks are delicious too, and the staff... The staff is so friendly and easy to work with, whether you're just ordering in the coffee shop or trying to book rooms for an event, the entire professional atmosphere of that place is really set up like a community and it's wonderful. Tips: Take time to walk around and see all the stained glass, especially in the sanctuary. If you have kids check out the playroom that they have available most days. And I really wasn't kidding about that matcha latte, but I've never had anything from the coffee shop that I didn't really love. read more

Nice coffee shop inside a church. They have a little play area for kids with some books and puzzles. A lot of reviews say that it's pay what you want but they stopped that a few years ago. It is still a not for profit but it has prices. It's a great coffee shop to get work done because there is a lot of seating spaced out. read more

This community space is lovely, welcoming and I enjoy coming here to write in the mornings. There's a sweet coffee bar with volunteers staffing the espresso machine. The entire entryway of the building is full of stained glass. In warmer weather there are plenty of tables outside to take your coffee, a book or just relax. Lots of meet-up groups here for social, therapeutic and personal enrichment. I haven't attended any groups here or the church service (not my cup of tea) but TaborSpace is inviting. Highly recommend it for a quiet place to meet a friend for coffee. What this church is doing for the community and neighborhood by providing a place to gather, to just come and 'be' is a tremendous asset to Portland. I am grateful for their open doors and generosity. read more

Both before and after kids, I love TS. A beautiful setting in an old church, free wifi, kind baristas. A place where I could come enjoy a drink and not worry too much about how long I stayed. (The ample room never felt crowded.) At times, there were parents with kiddos. At other times, loud conversationalists whose voices overtook the large room. Know what worked wonders? Headphones. Once I added them into my TaborSpace mix, it was perfect. I've also attended group meetings in some of their extra rooms - another great community resource. Now that I'm a parent, it's great to know that there's a comfortable, affordable, pleasant space where I can bring my young baby along and not get sideways looks. I love TaborSpace's model, and I hope they keep their doors open for many years to come. Keep spending those donation dollars, folks! read more

Great find & free wifi! once you get over the old school church exterior and come in the front door (or the side door to the cafe), you'll be won over. it's got character, good selection of teas, coffee and eats. lots of seats, and a great little kids area. it's all pay-by-donation so pay what you want. there's lots of stuff happening at Taborspace. it's used by many people in the community (mostly not Christian groups). There's always art on the walls from local artist. it def has a unique vibe. i've come here to study and i'm very impressed by this place. My suggestion is to bring headphones, because there's always some meeting or loud kids playing. plug in, and you're good to go. I certainly will be back and i recommend this place to anyone in the area. read more

What a wonderful spot! They are basically a mini ristretto roasters, but connected to the church...at least thats my understanding. They have beautiful stained glass windows right above the espresso machine. There is a wonderful little play area for kids. And its a great place to meet with friends and/or study. read more

Love love love TaborSpace - can't sing its praises enough. The coffee shop itself is in a little annex off of the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. Coffee and pastries are very tasty, and the baristas make a point to be friendly and welcoming. $2.50 gets you unlimited refills on drip coffee in a generous for-here mug. The TaborSpace itself is a spacious, brick-walled area off of the church sanctuary, replete with comfy chairs, couches, and tables. As someone who likes to be surrounded by people while I'm working, it offers the perfect balance of a peaceful, quiet atmosphere and ambient chatter, very conducive to writing, studying, or just enjoying a beverage. The stained-glass windows, hearth, and warm lighting all contribute to the ambiance. "Cozy" is the mot juste here. There's also an area with books and toys for kiddos to play. Although the coffee shop closes in the early afternoon, the TaborSpace area is often open later unless it's been reserved for an event. I've spent most of my time here working on homework or job applications, but it's also commonly used as a meeting spot. Overall, can't recommend enough. It's one of my favorites! read more

I had their cold brew a week ago and really enjoyed this unusual place. They have outside seating, indoor round tables (like a church social) and open space for kids (if you're so inclined). The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable, no snoot, no smirk. I also enjoyed my coffee, in the scope of cold brew, I'd give it a B+. It wasn't as rich as some others but it wasn't thin and translucent the way others are. I enjoyed the flavor and the space. I could see myself walking over for a coffee lunch if I had an hour free during the day. I work nearby and yeah, I like Taborspace. Update 7/2016: they have a cocoa syrup that goes really well in their cold brew! read more

Been here before. I think it's a great space. Good coffee. This time, I ordered a drink and waited. And waited. I waited while what appeared to be 3 employees voraciously ate samples of food in plain view of everyone. One was the fella who took my order, leaving a new hire to take over the counter so that he could crush some food. "Let me go down and get a cutting board," I overheard him say. When I interrupted all the lip-smacking praise for the food being eaten, the fella looked dumbfounded and said "Sorry, I thought he was making it for you." TaborSpace is an awesome place for functions. We had a baby shower here and the fact that you can set your function up how you want it with as many table and chairs as you need is great. They have a built in small counter that you can use to set up foods and drinks and then use extra tables if need be. One thing I would suggest is that the amount of time between functions to set up ( its usually about 15 min) is actually not enough time. But all in all it was a great baby shower. read more

I rented this space for our group, and was so delighted by the whole package. The space is charming (Commons), the staff is really helpful and wonderful, I think the only downside is that it requires the event to be out fairly early because of neighbourhood restrictions. Nonetheless, it's a great space, scarily affordable (on a sliding scale)... we intend to use this space for our group frequently and cannot say enough about how wonderful everyone is. read more

I still like this place. They're very welcoming, and the tea, coffee, and treats are all delicious. Don't go expecting to have a full menu of food available -- it kinda depends on what they're running out of and what they still have -- but if you can, get the pumpkin bread. It's delicious. read more
