Friends told us about this place. Once we figured out which of the two locations was closest to us we headed over for lunch. It looked like a small place but it appears there is a larger dining room upstairs. We sat downstairs. The service was friendly and we made it through the ordering with our limited Spanish. I ordered the half portion of Iberico Jamon for 12 euros. Not cheap but excellent. Also a bowl of the Andulsian version of gazpacho - salmorejo. Very tasty. Solid tapas spot in Sevilla with very affordable prices. This was our first meal in Spain, and we really enjoyed it. Set the tone for our meals for the rest of our time in Spain. We came for dinner around 9:30 pm on a Wednesday evening. I knew it was a popular spot with locals and tourists alike, so I was afraid it'd be crowded, but we were seated immediately on the second floor. The restaurant is massive and takes up all 3 floors of the building, so I think generally you can get seated pretty quickly. I started with a glass of sangria for 6€. We were starving so we each ordered 3 tapas dishes, which in hindsight may have been a bit too much food. I think 4-5 for the two of us would've been the right amount, as portions are fairly large here. The nice thing about their menu is that there's something for everything, with a large meat and seafood selection but also a lot of options for vegetarians as well. Given that most of the dishes are only 3-4.50€ for the tapas side, it's such a steal. Portions were larger than I expected for the price too. My vegetarian friend absolutely loved the food here, especially the fried onions with peppers. I thought my dishes were good but not amazing. My favorite was probably the Pluma Iberico, which is the top cut of Iberian pork. Would definitely recommend giving Taberna Coloniales a try when you're in Sevilla! read more

After living in Sevilla, this is definitely my favorite tapas restaurant! Locals and visitors alike love it and it's always packed. As one of my students once told me, "it's good and cheap." The quality of the food really is fantastic and you can't beat the prices anywhere else. Tapas at other bars are overpriced. This place is huge - it's three stories high. When you arrive be sure to check in with the guy behind the counter right when you walk in. He keeps track of who is waiting and what order everyone is in. There's a chalkboard on the counter he writes on. Be sure to listen for your name and then pay attention to which level of the restaurant they tell you to go to. The waiter on the correct floor will be expecting you. Keep in mind with tapas that even though portions are small, you can continue to order as much as you want! If you try something you like, order it again! Because this place is so affordable, you really can't feel bad ordering seconds or thirds! read more

Visited this establishment on a recommendation from our host. This place was only a 2 minute walk from our stay. Upon arrival, we were lead upstairs to a cool air conditioned room. Taverna Coloniales was recommended by our B&B Host as on of his favorite tapas place in town. So we tried it and we were not disappointed. Real Spanish tapas, super fast service and a fairly nice entourage. Actually the latter was typical Spanish: a bit too bright TL lighting in a quite old fashioned decorated place. Then again, usually the best tapas bars spend more focus on delivering good food than on making the place look nice. An advantage is: you can really check out what you eat. Taberna Coloniales was recommended by my friend Irene who's lived in Sevilla her whole life and still cites it as her favorite tapas restaurant. A loud bustling environment is my favorite, and Taberna Coloniales perfectly embodies this. The restaurant consists of 3 floors; all with huge, family size tables and a full bar. You walk in and you're presented with a HUGE menu, complete with all the classics; solomillo al whisky, tortilla, salmorejo, anchoas, patatas bravas, and many more. I always get the solomillo al whisky purely because Coloniales uses the best, and freshest garlic of any other restaurant I've been to. The sauce is amazing and pairs perfectly with the round fried potatoes that are served with essentially all of the meat dishes. The fried fish dishes are also incredible. The churrasco especially was AMAZING. perfectly cooked and seasoned with a hint of spice. First bite in I knew it was one of the best pork steaks I'd ever had. The quail eggs with sausage (huevos codorniz) are interesting and very different, but I absolutely loved them. The sangria is delicious as well, but careful, it's strong!! read more

We waited in front of the bar and didn't rush them for the table until we realized they gave table to three groups of people before us. Then we ask them, they were like oh you have to get your name on the black board to be called. And we were like we are waiting in front of you, and told you specifically when we sit down we want a table, and you didn't say that nor ask our name? Then he was like you guys can wait out side by the tree and the board so you can see the board. We ordered another set of drinks, went to sit under the tree. What a surprise after an hour and half wait, the waiter came out saying, "if you want you can go in and sit by the bar and order some quick bites as the kitchen is going to close in 10mins. " Seriously? If we can order and eat by the bar we'd have done that way back. And of course rushing us to order a lots of food that we can not even finish. Quail eggs with salami was ok. Don't even know why people rated so high. The ham was the same if not worse than anywhere else, other things were salty and very oily. Not even as good as their cold vinegar marinated plates. Also, forgot to mention, this is the only place I see in the whole Spain that when you order a Sangria they pull out a cheap bottle of red wine and then a big bottle of orange Fanta. (Don't get me wrong, maybe there are some other places doing it too back in the kitchen, but this is the first time I saw someone do it like that) And for course it just taste like Fanta mainly. By far the worse experience in our 2 weeks Spain trip. Big warning, do not go if you really want a local meal. 8 out of 10 people here are tourists, maybe even 9. Amazing place! Great food, super quick service and very cheap. Try "Manjar blanco" and "Tabla Ibérica", my favorites. The only problem is that it gets really full (even the three floors it has!) so you may need to wait to get a table, but totally worth it. This place made my Spanish experience. During the 5 weeks I was in Sevilla, I came at least once a week. The tapas/plates are cheap and the portions are huge. Most tapas come with patatas. The churrasco was amazingly big and yummy. I highly recommend all the dishes that the workers recommend - eggplant with honey, chicken with almond sauce (chicken a bit overcooked, but sauce was good), meat with whiskey sauce, etc. I found the carrots and octopus salads too salty. The jar of sangria is good too although it tasted different everytime. Oh and they charge for 0.80euro per bread but your hands can't help but reach for it everytime... My friend and I would always come hungry and leave stuffed. You can't get good quality food for this cheap elsewhere. I personally prefer this branch to the original location. Very popular restaurant, yet the service is quick. They take meal tickets. This is not a tourist trap! Go if you're in Sevilla! read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. I never had a bad meal in Spain until I arrived at this horrible establishment. The service was terrible. We had to call to the waitstaff in Spanish multiple times for them to do simple things like take our order. Lets get to why this place was so bad: the food. The food was like poison, literally. We had this veal with Roquefort sauce. The sauce was reminiscent of Luby's gravy, and the sad thing is that gravy is way better than this cheese sauce. It was like the cheese had congealed and hardened on the top. The meat was definitely not fresh or proper veal, but instead reminded me of something you would find in a fast food chicken nugget. The calamari was the only thing that was somewhat edible, but that is not saying much since it was extremely greasy and salty. The croquettes tasted like fried balls of throw up. They were supposed to be mushroom, but there were no hints of mushroom inside these. The patatas bravas seemed like something that would come out of a chef boyardee can. I probably would have chosen some chef boyardee food over these patatas. The sauce was goopy and had a can taste to it. The potatoes were dull and not seasoned at all. Finally the last dish was an inedible piece of fish. It had bones inside and was extremely dry. There was no flavor at all. This was the worst meal ever. It was so bad that I ended up getting food poisoning! DO NOT GO HERE!! Instead you should go over to a place called la azotea. Very delicious. Trust me, I'm a foodie! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I have a life threatening nut allergy and thankfully can speak fluent Spanish and have been able to communicate to the waitstaff all over Spain about my allergy and make sure there are no nuts in my meal. I was assured by the waiter at Taberna Coloniales that he checked with the kitchen and my food choices we safe. Upon biting into the spinach croquette I realized it was filled with pine nuts!!! I quickly rinsed my mouth and spit out my food and was thankfully okay. I told the waiter that there were nuts in the dish and instead of being apologetic in any way he just shrugged and walked away. TERRIBLE. My appetite was ruined but the people I was with said the tapas were pretty bad. Everything looked like it had been chewed up and spit back on the plates and apparently the meat was super rubbery. There are so many wonderful tapas places in Sevilla, do not waste your time here.
