Sort of surprised by the rating of this place, because we found it to be just okay. A tourist trap this is most certainly not though. The bar is cozy and small, but we managed to get a spot at the counter. The food was just okay. The best thing we had was the calamari salad (to be fair, I have never had a bad calamari in my life). The croquettes were also good. However, the artichokes were a major fail. They were bathed in olive oil, limp and looked like they were a dying pallor. The Spanish omlette was hearty and filling, but disappointing because it was cold as it had been sitting on the counter for a while. Overall, perhaps we just ordered the wrong things, but the food quality was a little lacking.

Home of "The World's Smallest Restroom" ...oh, and vino naranja (Sevillian orange wine). Saw it on Samantha Brown, and followed like sheep! Glad we did! Taberna Álvaro Peregil has two locations, side-by-side. They have a dining room with tapas and drinks, where the "old" (40+ crowd) was hanging out, and the bar room, with the 20- and 30-somethings. My review is for the bar experience. The bar side is TINY, and spills out onto sidewalk high-tops, and beyond. The bar is set up like a walk-up counter, just off the street. You walk in, take a shot or get a tasting glass of local specialties, vino naranja or sherry, and head on your way, or stay a while. Young bartender was guapo, but half-borracho, for sure. He puts on a show, half-acting, for the tourists. I think a few extremely wasted college guys kept challenging him to match their shots. Half the crowd was sloppy and falling over, and half was sipping and having cultured conversation. My husband tried the vino naranja and liked it. I can't drink right now, but the bartender was determined to entertain by shouting to me across the bar: "Bebida, Bonita?" -- "No, gracias" "Beba, Bonita!!!" -- "No, estoy embarazada." "Beba, Bonita!!!" -- "Embarazada" "Vino?" -- "Em-bar-a-za-da!!!" "Cerveza?" -- "EMBARAZADA!" "Coca cola?" -- LOL "No,gracias" "Agua?" -- "No, gracias" and so on... would have been more fun if I could sample too! But still a fun experience. * * * TIP * * * 1€ each for tastings. Famous for vino naranja. * * * TIP * * * The "World's Smallest Restroom" is in the front right corner of the bar. It really is extremely small, worse than an airplane. * * * TIP * * * Two locations side-by-side; one for tapas, one for walk-up tastings / bar.

This is the place if you want to experience tapas like locals. Place is known for the vino de naranja. The vino de naranja was perfect, not to sweet but gets to the punch! It was perfect with the manchego cheese and chicharonnes de Cadiz.

A tiny place for tapas and orange wine. We had aged cheese and cod fritters, plus the local orange wine. A good place to stop for this unique sweet wine and a tapa.

I went here because I heard they were famous for the vino de naranja, and it was delicious. I tried a lot of different types of sherry, but for me most are too strong. However, I really liked the orange wine here. It's still strong, so it's best to sip slowly, but it's so good. The little glass makes for the perfect dessert wine to end the night. Also, the guys behind the bar are very kind. I accidentally spilled half my glass, and they refilled it for me free of charge. I didn't try any of the food, but I definitely recommend the orange wine. It's a Seville specialty and here you can try it for only 1.20 euros.

Cuttlefish was amazing! So fresh and delicious.

Know in advance there are two options, if you want to eat here …read more.. 1. Book a table online ... There is a cancellation policy, so you will need to put down a credit card and around 15 Euro per person to hold the time/date. You will have access to a sit-down table and a waiter and full-plated menu and fancy tapas. VERY IMPORTANT ... Know by sitting at a table with a reservation, you will pay 3 - 5 times the price for the same tapas on the bar side! 2. Show up and get a seat in the bar area for tapas. This is first come, first serve and there was a line of around 5 people when the restaurant opened at 1 p.m. It probably wouldn't be a problem getting a bar area or table if you show up 15 - 20 minute earlier. Otherwise it's a free for all. We would have preferred the bar side and less money ... however, we had a little one in a stroller so we didn't want to jockey for a spot. Had we known showing up a little early at the opening time was so easy, we'd have done that. The waiters are all older in the restaurant side and act pretentious ... as fine dining waiters do. They have little patience ... aren't very friendly ... and are very brusque. They act like they are you doing a favor by waiting on you. Also, be prepared to speak Spanish. The food here is good to average. It's expensive (on the fine dining side) I would imagine the food is the same quality ... just smaller portions on the bar side. We didn't try it. On the sit-down side, things get pricey and you have to order larger portions. We ordered: - Iberico Ham ... 20 Euros. They brought a big plate. There was no smaller order. It was very good. Not the best that we had but better than anything you'd get in the US. - Croquettes ... 12 Euro. Another big order size with no smaller available. These were the best Croquettes we had in Seville. Fried perfectly with a very loose and cheesy filling. Almost like a breadless grilled cheese sandwich. - Cuttle Fish ... 12 Euro. This was pretty bad. It was like eating giant strips of rubber with no taste. Way too chewy and hardly any batter. It was served with no nipping sauce and was like eating a basket of small tires. - Creamed Spinach ... I have never tasted anything like this. It was like eating spinach blended with cream with church insence mixed it. I'd imagine a basket of poppuri soaked in salt water would taste similar. It was not great, although very unique. For 8 Euro, a big pass. - Cheesecake ... Not great. Tasted like a square of sweet cheesecake with strawberry jelly on top. I can't imagine you couldn't find something similar in a supermarket for much cheaper than the 6 Euro price. Overall, the atmosphere was nice. It was immaculately clean inside and it didn't really look as ancient as you'd expect. It looked like a Spanish restaurant you'd expect. However the food was pretty average compared to other restaurants in Spain. We saw the table next to us both got steak and left it about 3/4 eaten, so it couldn't have been fantastic as they didn't look like the GLP1 type. This is one you must hit in Seville, just because it's so famous. It's on a cute street. However, don't expect it to be the best food you try in Seville and if you can do the tapas bar side, you'll probably have a better experience than in the formal dining room area.

There was a show going on when we arrived around 10:50, so the main entrance was closed off, but we went through the side entrance and ordered drinks at the bar. I got a small glass of the orange wine, since I heard that was the specialty in Sevilla and wanted to try it. It was a sweeter wine but had a slightly bitter after taste. There were already a lot of people there, so it was a bit hard for us to see the performance, but from what I could see, it was really good. When it finally ended around 11, the lights came on. My friend and I didn't want to wait around for the next performance, so we finished our drinks and left. They also have plenty of seating outdoors in the courtyard, so if you want to just grab a drink but not watch the show, you can always sit outside and chat.

We ordered their roasted lamb with cous cous, garlic shrimp croquetta (that was the croquetta of the day), pork cheek stew with potato purée and the chocolate panna cotta for dessert. We also ordered their sangria and tinto de verano. Every dish we ordered was AMAZING - tasty flavorful well seasoned melt in your mouth meat bursting with flavors. We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for. This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. To call this place rustic would probably capture…read moreit best, it's really probably more like a cafeteria or a school room at a very old school. Tables perhaps a bit close together, not terribly comfortable. Loud, busy. As far as the service, it was our impression that our waiter was the only person serving the 30 or so tables in their dining room. Suffice it to say the service was not fast and not good. Inexplicably, every time we ordered a Coke we were asked if we wanted a Coke Zero. If I wanted a Coke Zero I would have said the words Coke Zero. Even when I asked for another Coke, he again asked "Coke Zero?" It took next to forever to get the check, and forever to get a cappuccino. At one point I took it upon myself to point the waiter to a table behind us that had been desperately attempting to get his attention. This was all not good. As to the food. First, our fault for not knowing what tataki meant. We did not expect to receive salmon that was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. So that one is on us, although we also think the meal came tepid at best. The lamb on couscous was dry and tough. The pork cheek stew was actually pretty good if a bit gluey. The calamari was good. The sushi as they called it was average. What they called the tiramisu was more like a pudding with some liqueur and chocolate on the top, and a little bit of breadish stuff in the bottom. Not my idea of tiramisu, and probably not yours either. So we could not get too excited about these various dishes. But what was particularly frustrating and bizarre was that two people sitting across from us ordered food that looked absolutely delicious. So we got to sit there wondering why we didn't order what they ordered. They ordered a large beef dish with potatoes which is on the menu, and we think they ordered a large octopus meal although we are not sure. Everything they had looked better than anything we had. So it may be that we somehow just picked the wrong items. So it was a strangely frustrating meal. This place has good reviews and we expected good tasting food. Unfortunately it did not work out that way, and the ambience and service were negative contributing factors. I can't entirely write this place off, only because the food other diners received actually looked very good. But I don't think I would go there again.
