Crispy Twice Cooked Pork in Sweet and Sour Sauce

Authentic northern Chinese cuisine! I live 20 miles away but it's totally worth the drive up here. This place may look like a hole in the wall but it's actually a gem. Dining-in doesn't really give you a nicer experience compare to takeout, as the food are all in togo containers. Service is limited, and you will have to pay upfront right after ordering from the counter. But this doesn't impact the joy of eating the authentic food! P.S. please don't order from the American Chinese menu... it's like you going into a lobster store and only ordered some fries...

Went with a group of Chinese friends. The restaurant specialized in cuisines from Northeastern, guangxi and sichuan of China. For the dishes that are on the menu, highly recommend "steamed chicken with chili sauce", pig intestine, and Pam fried pork buIf you wanted to order something off-menu, you've got to talk to the chefs ahead of time. Probably one of the most authentic Chinese restaurant I have ever had. The restaurant is open until 1am- if you want late night snacks this is the place you wanna go with. Delivery option available but need to call in to ask. If I have a car, I probably would come over every single week.

Combo dishes. It's a lot of food for about $8 each.

This is a cut above other Chinese takeout restaurants. Great quality food, not too greasy or salty. It's very clean inside and the staff are friendly. They're not fast but it seems they take care to cook the food properly and I appreciate all these things!

    2 Piece Spring Rolls

We ordered the sesame chicken, veg. Lo mein, crab Rangoon, and spring rolls. My friend really enjoyed the sesame chicken and thought the chicken was cooked well, only downside was side of rice was missing from the bag. Lo mein was good and would get again. Could use more veg variety. For mushroom haters like me it did have a few, but they were large enough to easily remove. Crab Rangoons had good flavor and not just pure cream cheese. Overall all was good!

Flounder fillet in spicy mala sauce

I just ordered the flounder fillet with spicy mala sauce. When I hear mala, I expect it to be SPICY. It just wasn't it. It lacked spice and some flavor but I oddly enjoyed it. I just wish it was more saucy and more mala flavor. When I order szechuan/mala, I expect that sauce to be RED. It looked bland when I first opened it, hopefully they'll consider this review and improve! I really want to like this place considering it's super close to me. The staff are friendly! Always a major plus at Asian restaurants.

Review of Chung Wag - A "Wag" of Disappointment…read more Rating: 2.4 - It's cheap Chinese food--set your expectations accordingly, but honestly? Skip this place. Ah, Chung Wag in Chelsea--where the décor is stuck in a 70s time warp, the cash-only policy hits harder than a surprise MSG headache, and the food... well, let's just say my taste buds filed a complaint. It was a rainy Friday night, and the cravings hit--the kind only cheap, greasy, glorious Asian food can satisfy. Apple Maps whispered sweet nothings about Chung Wag being a 7-minute drive away, with prices that screamed "Yes, you can afford rent AND takeout!" Foolish optimism, thy name is hunger. The vibe inside was part retro diner, part chaotic takeout hub--like if a Wong Kar-wai film had a budget cut. People milled about, some waiting for orders, others staring at the menu like it was the 'I Ching' (spoiler: no fortunes were revealed). After a quick cash-for-food exchange (pro tip: bring bills, not dreams), I was back in my car, assaulted by an aroma so strong it could've cleared my sinuses AND my regrets. Alas, the excitement was shorter than a takeout chopstick: - Queen's Chicken Curry Onions? More like Boiled chicken with Suspicious Veggies--those were not onions, my dude. - Scallion Pancake? Staler than bread left out two weeks ago. - Crab Rangoon? Packed with more garlic than two roasted vampire repellents. - Fried Chicken Fingers? The lone survivor--because even Chung Wag can't ruin deep-fried nostalgia. Our quest for good-cheap Asian food continues, but Chung Wag? More like Chung Nah.

I'm glad we have a local restaurant that can give me a Chinese treat without going all the way to Boston. Pricing is about average for a local Chinese joint. I forgot how swanky looking the place was, and that still impressed. -- Egg Rolls: Cradled in a wicker basket, crisp on the outside, celery, and pork on the inside, a bit dry, but good flavor. A little above average. -- Spare Ribs on the bone: Painted on every surface with a nice char to complement the glaze. A thicker cut than most. Just like last time, they looked like a reheat, but still had very good texture (tender, moist) and decent enough flavor. Above average. -- Pork Egg Foo Yong: A trio of thick patties flooded with light brown sauce. Good crispness underneath. Soft and tender with big chunks of pork that wasn't dried out. Good overall flavor from the fry, the onions, and the pork, as well as the sauce. Near-elite to elite. -- Kung Pao Chicken: A little different here, with much larger shreds of chicken, a little darker than most, less celery and peanuts than most, a profusion of peppers, and pleasing spiciness to the soy-based sauce. Very enjoyable. Above average to well above average. -- Peking Noodles: A little different, and in a good way. More of a fine shred than a crumble, much spicier, and a little gloppier. Good feel to the egg noodles. I don't get this dish often enough to compare, but I enjoyed it. No OMG moments, but no complaints. Solid lunch, flavorful entrees, and I departed with a higher opinion than before. Upping to 4 stars.
