My wife and I come here quite often. Their waffles are not like Normal waffles. These waffles are so unique in their taste I'm not sure what they're made of but I have a feeling it's made with a piece of Heaven, a lot of love and a little bit of sugar. I personally love the JG2 and when I'm not feeling a sweet tooth I also enjoy the second breakfast. They serve great coffee and the staff is always friendly. You can call ahead and put your order in ahead of time and then pick it up which is always nice if you're not wanting to sit there. Often times after I eat breakfast I'll go next-door and get my haircut. I'm not quite sure if there's a better combination waffles and haircuts. During the summertime you can sit outside sip on your coffee eat your waffle and feed your dog. That's called the triple threat. This place also is on DoorDash and Uber Eats and Postmates. Every day I wake up thinking if there could possibly be a better breakfast place I'm not quite sure that their is. The waffles are perfect size and they have a certain crunchiness to them as well. Not sure if you've ever stuck a waffle in your pocket but these are the type of waffles that if you do they still taste good. If you just get a plain waffle there less than five dollars and you can order them for your entire family and or business. They are a hit in the office, and on your school bus ride. I got the waffle with the prosciutto and pear and it was actually really good and filling and was sweet but not overwhelming and had a variety textures! I will say the food Is always yummy but sadly they close very early. The service can be a bit slow but it will be always worth it. Don't come if you are in a rush as it will take a while for you to take your order. Very cute area, but sadly bathrooms are very inaccessible for people who are disabled. This was about as poor an experience as I can imagine at a professional restaurant. If you like average food, delivered exceptionally slowly, by disinterested staff, then it's maybe worth your time. Personally, I won't go back. We were there on a Saturday, mid-morning. Place wasn't too busy. From ordering food to receiving it was a couple of minutes shy of an hour. There seemed to be plenty of staff who looked busy enough, but whatever they were doing it wasn't producing food quickly. The food itself was OK - although nothing that special. Waffles were small (about 1/2 the size of a regular waffle iron), and the toppings were OK, but again fairly standard. There was nothing on any of the plates that our group ordered that we would not have been easily able to recreate in our own kitchens. I left the restaurant feeling frustrated and annoyed that I'd wasted time and money on something I'd have been able to do just as well at home. Syrup Trap offers Liege waffles, the thick kind made with a batter and not the dough. The hubby and I split the Audrey (goat cheese, hazelnuts, and honey), JG^2 (lemon curd and blueberries), and the Mojo Jojo (Nutella and bananas). I got a side of syrup with the Audrey, but it was totally unnecessary. The Audrey was the clear winner of the group. The flavors complimented each other perfectly. It was the most special, and most delicious. Servers were very friendly and accommodating. We had a group of six and they helped us put a bunch of tables together our in the hallway. The food came to us in under ten minutes after ordering. Will I be back? No, this was a lot more money for waffles than I wanted to pay. About $34 for three waffles, not including tip. Yesterday I ate at one of Portland's great brunch places and that was the same cost with tip. But, this was good in the way waffles are always good. Side note: we ordered some bacon and it came to us covered in bubbles. This means it was microwaved. Hmmmmm. Just sayin'. read more

Sweet & Savory! All of it was delicious! I totally dig the order at the counter and self clean up. The atmosphere is light and bright. Very calming and just a wonderful day out brunch place to visit. The sweet Mojo Jojo is of course what I picked. I couldn't pass that name up. May I add "DO NOT" use syrup in addition to this. It'll cause a tooth ache. The savory Couve Club surprising my favorite. I've never had meat with a waffle and now I understand. If you're feeling adventurous, try this waffle combo. Any drink will work with whatever waffle you choose feel free to ask what they recommend. The 2 reg was the strawberry and the Elvis without bacon, loved the reg strawberry waffle not too sweet very fresh a s delicious, the Elvis I thought was a little too much banana but still good need more peanut better. The 2 gluten-free I sampled was the lemon blueberry which I thought was extremely too sweet and then I also had the goat cheese hazelnuts and I added grilled pears I loved this waffle just thought it had a little too much goat cheese. Started with the very friendly owner?/staff? explaining the basic liege waffle. We ordered the Annie Fan and the Second Breakfast and some of their very good drip coffee. The Annie Fan was very very good. The generous amount of bacon wasn't crispy but was very good. The maple syrup worked with the bacon to elevate the entire experience. The Second Breakfast was yummy! The brie added a rich creaminess. Again a generous amount of prosciutto topped the waffle. My only suggestion, not complaint, was the pear. The fan of sliced pear looked pretty but was not designed to make sure you got a balance of the 4 flavors in each bite. Once I cut it up and put it under the prosciutto it was perfect! The restaurant is cute, clean, and there is a little play corner for minions to wreak havoc in. I feel that the prices are a little steep for how little waffle you get, but with some heavier toppings (which I opted out of), I'm sure it would be more filling. However, the waffle itself was extremely sweet (I do know that Liege waffles are supposed to be) but in comparison to Waffle Window in PDX, unfortunately this waffle fell short. I was hungry on a Saturday morning in Vancouver, and not knowing the restaurants here, I went to the Yelp app to see my choices. Once again, Yelp reviewers steered me to a good meal. On the app, I looked at several restaurants, and the one that stood out as being unique from the rest was the Syrup Trap. I was in the mood for something savory, and saw a waffle sandwich called the Swanson's Sammy. This sandwich features filling of egg, Havarti cheese, a sausage patty, and bacon, nestled between two Liège waffle's. For those who do not know, Liège waffle's are made with a yeasty dough rather than a batter, which has a subtly different taste. You can choose whether or not to get the maple syrup on your waffle, which in this situation added a little sweetness to the savory fillings of the sandwich. Delicious! I also ordered a cup of the drip coffee, which was very good indeed. The greeting when I entered was friendly and warm, making me glad I chose Syrup Trap for my breakfast to-go order. I can honestly say that the whole meal was delicious, and I hope to come back soon. read more

I came here on Feb 2, 2020 with friends; three adults, two teenagers, and an eight-year old Maltipooh. I ordered the "Second Breakfast" with added ($1) syrup on the side. The serving was just the perfect amount of food for one person. It was as tasty and flavorful without the syrup. Ambience was great and friendly staff. They have about three tables for outside seating but depending on time of the year, can be cold to sit out. Kudos to one of the staff who noticed our canine companion and allowed us to dine in the "lobby" or receiving area. It is separated from the main dinning. It is the area that separates the restaurant and the barbershop. If one wanted to, he/she/they can plan their meal and haircut conveniently. Street parking is plentiful. This is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time, both for quality of food and service. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. After we ordered at the counter and sat down the chef (also proprietor, I believe) brought our food to the table and had listened while we ordered so that he could bring each plate to the appropriate person. They also have a small kids table with toys on it for kiddos to keep themselves entertained. The kids can make play coffee and waffles, among other things. And the food- oh my goodness! I had the Audrey and added prosciutto, which was DIVINE. Perfect amount of light sweetness for a savory waffle and the flavors blended well together. My husband got the Second Breakfast which was also delicious. And our girls thoroughly enjoyed the Leslie Knope and Mojo Jojo. I always hesitate with specialty waffles because they're often too sweet and light on toppings so it feels like you're overpaying a bit. But this was not the case here- very well topped and not too sweet, so you can actually taste how the different flavors blend together. YUM YUM YUM.
