Had them update my service to 200 Amps. They did it in two separate panels. Since then I have nothing but issues with too much load on one panel vs another. Already had two other electricians come out and tell me the service upgrade was horrible and should have never been done like this. Also did the electrical for an addition we did. Same thing the other electricians said there was no thought in how they wired it/separated it and set up the switches. DO NOT USE STEVE OR HIS COMPANY. TERRIBLE. read more

Contacted them to have my pool wired and grounded. The good: showed up as promised. Looked at the job. Said he would get back to me. The bad: never got back to me. Bottom line: most contractors will walk away from a job if they're busy enough and not worth it for them. Unfortunately I have to throw this company in that mix. I would NOT recommend. Updated: 10/2018: A year later I get a DM over yelp messaging from the owner of this company calling me a liar. He said I was suppose to call him after he came to my house for an estimate. I contacted Sylvia Electrical because of the good reviews here on Yelp, and I'm happy to report they're all true. I had managed to blow out an outlet in my kitchen by plugging a microwave and toaster oven into it and using them at the same time (duh); had tested the GFI outlet; had checked the circuit breakers. Gave up & called Sylvia. Right before the electrician, Stan, showed up, I decided to check the circuit panel again and saw that one had been tripped--it was mislabeled also to what it led to. This solved the problem, but Stan double-checked the GFI to make sure it was working properly as well as checking the circuit breaker. He didn't up-sell me on a new GFI (mine was oldish but fine) and he didn't even charge me for his time. I can't tell you how much I appreciate these guys, and I'll use them again. PS, I also appreciated that Sylvia contacted me and kept me apprised via text, which is primarily how I communicate these days.... read more

Solid and dependable. Steve came out once to hook up a dishwasher and help with a light I was having trouble with. I had him out a second time to put up a flat screen in our bedroom that also needed a cable outlet installed. He brought a second guy and they were done in about 2 hours. The work was professional and the wall looks great. Price seemed reasonable to me too...a tad under what I was expecting. Ill call Steve again if I have an electrical issue. read more

These guys were great! I called them to help me with an issue with our circuit breaker and they were nice enough to try and help me over the phone first. They had someone to my house the next morning and the electrician was right on time. It ended up being a dead GFCI outlet and he had everything to replace it right away. I had great service here. I called because of a wall socket that had shorted and tripped a breaker. The electrician checked some of the other sockets and demonstrated how the original installation had weakened the socket. We decided to have him back to check all of them and replace any that were weakened. I was very happy with the diligence and care taken with the work. read more

My experience with this company was great. They were able to come out to my condo on the same day that I called. I dealt with Steve, and he was extremely professional and attentive. I felt that he thoroughly explored the issue I was dealing with and was willing to listen to me without jumping to conclusions or cutting me off. We had a fantastic experience with this company. I purchased a ventillation hood for my stove several months back, and several contractors kept delaying or telling me they couldn't install it. Finally we contacted Sylvia, and they made an appointment promptly. We unfortunately had to put down our cat when the electricians were coming out. It was a really upsetting time for my wife and I. The electrician was very understanding, didn't charge us for the missed appointment, and re-scheduled for a better time; he had actually come earlier than the planned time, which I count as a bonus in my book. He showed up on-time for the rescheduled appointment, and the job was done quickly and without hassle. He and his assistant were very professional, showed up on time, completed the job incredibly well, and had a reasonable price. You can't ask for more from a company. Steve Sylvia and his able and agile assistant, Israel, recently installed a large (60-inch) ceiling fan in our family room's (2 stories high) sloped ceiling. The purpose of the fan was to maximize the heat circulation from a recently installed gas fireplace. Mr Sylvia gave us good advice as to the best placement to achieve this result. The nearest access to an electrical tie in was in the open attic above the ceiling which could only be reached through a very small trap door in a narrow closet. Nevertheless, they were able to expertly snake a wire up through the ceiling hole to that tie-in in a very short time. They were very clean, placing a very large drop cloth on the floor and gathering it up carefully so as not to drop any plaster debris from drilling the ceiling access hole. The job was completed in a professional manner and at the estimated time and price. We would definitely use Mr. Sylvia's services for any electrical needs again. read more

Sylvia electrical is honestly unbelievable! We had an issue with a constantly blowing breaker on a Friday, and even had one person come out who couldn't figure out, and then called Sylvia on a Saturday morning. Within 2 minutes on the phone, Steve told us what to check and do, and we had the breaker fixed. He didn't even have to come out...which is saying a lot since someone who was physically here couldn't figure it out! I called Sylvia Electrical today because, when we awoke, only 50% of the plugs/switches/appliances in the house had power. When I spoke with Steve, he suggested that I call the electric company and that it sounded like it might be the line coming into the house, which would be a free fix. I called and, success! It was the outside line. Not every (I'd venture to even say, not many) company would have the morals to suggest the option that did not require their services. I hope to be able to assign more stars for this rating. I contracted w/ the electrician to install outlets in my elderly mother's new kitchen. He did. He came when he said and worked diligently. I hired him for a Boston job, but I live out of town. I had a few questions during the installation and he was responsive. However, after the installation, I told him my mother could not use 3 prong plugs in his outlets. They would not go in. He said they are tough to use at first and , she is old and she should just leave stuff plugged in. I told him my 6'5" (not elderly) brother in-law and others even younger had trouble too. I told him it is expensive to leave stuff plugged in and could he at least go out to check on it. He said the outlets are due to the new code. He finally said he would call my mum and check it out. I called him twice and texted him over several weeks. I just left a message on his website. He has not followed-up and after over $1,000, my mother cannot use her kitchen outlets properly. Soooo, I am trying to be fair and give him another opportunity before I re-rate him. I will update my entry if he ever responds to my request. read more

We contracted Sylvia Electric to replace a faulty wall lighting fixture in our bathroom and to install a new outlet. Stan and Joe showed up bright and early, ready to work and had great attitudes. They were both very knowledgeable and energetic. Our initial idea of where to place the new outlet wasn't very practical. Stan was great in explaining the layout of the wiring in our condo unit and suggested a much better alternate that worked out much better and will be much more utilitarian than our original idea. Stan's experience really showed itself as he offered much practical advice and assistance on our upcoming bathroom remodeling, going well above and beyond the electrical aspect of it. He even carried up a heavy package of storage shelves that arrived while he was there. The working was carried out quickly and expertly and surpassed all our expectations. The new fixture and outlet look great, and their additional assistance was greatly appreciated. When the job was done Joe took great pains to make sure everything was clean and all debris was disposed of before they left. I would definitely hire these gentlemen again with no hesitation. read more
