Honestly, I am extremely disappointed in this shop. I have been coming here for around 2 years with…read moremy E36 M3, and they have been incredibly inconsistent. I had them replace my master cylinder and slave cylinder for brakes, and they not only did not do it correctly the first time, but also made me feel wrong when I found the master was leaking. It was not until the shop owner got involved that it was fixed. I additionally had my spark plugs to go in to be changed when they did a smoke test a while back, and their technician advised I keep the current ones in the car and assured me they were good. The day after, I inspected them to find they were burnt through the iode and the 6th plug was hand loose. Additionally, the shop manager assured me that there were no codes (in the process of chasing a misfire), and again, I went and bought my own scanner for BMWs specifically and found several codes relating to the misfire. In my most recent exchange, my idler pulley broke after an alternator repair after about 100-ish miles, and when I asked them, they didn't see the faulty part as the idle pulley needs to be removed to replace the alternator. Angel (the shop manager) said that part didn't need to be removed to fix the alternator. A blatant lie. All of this work makes me question why they charge manufacturer labor, not the actual time it takes to replace parts (which I would understand if they had corrected the first time around). In addition to this, I confronted the shop manager about why they had moved my own purchased parts from the floor of the vehicle, and he said to keep them safe. He moved the brake pads to the seat and left a camshaft position sensor on the floor, which sounds like looking through my parts for reasons he didn't care to explain. Instead, he said he was done with me and my issues regarding the shop and its integrity in their work. I really wanted to love this shop, but after being inconsistent, charging for time that isn't necessary for work for an incomplete job, while being dishonest and making it look like I was the problem, after paying thousands for work sucks as a repeated and long-time customer. I unfortunately would not recommend.

I helped her to research where would be the best place to take her SUV to be checked. 19th Avenue Garage kept coming up on here and on Google. Needless to say, these gentlemen are wonderful! So very kind and understanding as they knew she was going through a difficult time. They did a thorough check of her car. She had previously been told she had a transmission leak. These gentlemen did not find it. The "Check Engine" light, fortunately, was related to her tires. The batteries were old. There was some seepage from the brakes, but it was minimal. As for the brakes, they were still in good shape, but will eventually need attention. When she asked how much she owed them for their time, they told us "Zero". No charge! They understood she was going through a difficult time with her husband being in the hospital these past two months and assured her that her vehicle was safe to drive. They did invite her to return in six months for her next oil change and they would check her brakes again. Needless to say, I am so impressed with the kindness these gentlemen showed my neighbor, and that they could have charged her for their time as they did a thorough check of her SUV, but they did not. They have also won me as a customer! I will be taking my vehicle to them the next time it needs service. I am very impressed with this garage and with the gentlemen working there!

All the local mechanics know about this place, and if you own a car, ESPECIALLY an older model car,…read moreyou NEED to know about this place too. Penny Pincher has saved us not one, not two, but at least THREE times or more, when one of our cars broke down and we needed a part that all of the regular retail chain auto parts stores said had to be "special ordered". Penny Pincher always has the parts we need in stock and always at a much lower price than those chain auto parts stores quote. Need an example? Two days ago, our older Honda Civic blew a wheel bearing while driving on the 101. None of the chain retail auto supply stores had it in stock, but told us they could special order it for $15 and that it would take days to get it. Penny Pincher had it IN STOCK for $3. A day later, we were back on the road! Thank you Penny Pincher! Lots of professional and DIY mechanics come here, so the place is always very busy. Customer service can be great or bad, depending on who you get, but out of the many times that I've dealt with PP, only once did I deal with a rude employee (he was disciplined by the manager later) and the other time, they gave me the wrong part and although they fixed their mixup without complaint, it was annoying to have to wait in that long line, so make sure you have the right part before you leave the store!

This business is highly unprofessional and completes substandard work for the industry. At first,…read morethe company was great--but I was only bringing my car in for oil changes. The first time I brought in my car for a repair, they did a good. Naturally, I returned to the company. In November of 2016, my car was in a pretty bad accident. In lieu of it being totaled, I had it repaired with this company. The work they did was garbage. I had to return the car several times after they had worked on it for approximately two months. Some of the work I returned for was cosmetic--something that should have been addressed by them and the auto body shop they outsourced my car to. I continually checked on my car while in service at their establishment, and they told me the auto body shop had the car. Each time I brought it to them, it would take well over an hour to do an oil change or they would keep my car for an extended period of time to work on it. I continued to return because the owner, Steve Groseclose, was a sound and reasonable man (or so I thought) who was willing to help. A little less than a year ago, this company replaced my catalytic converter on my 2011 Jetta SEL. On a recent long trip (1500+ miles) my check engine light came on again. Upon further inspection, it was determined that the converter was improperly installed (being welded more than twice) by whoever last installed it. This was determined by an exhaust specialist. It was also determined that the converter was bad and should be replaced. Steve and his team were the last to install the previous converter on July 27th, 2017 and I had to replace it on Tuesday, June 26th, 2018--less than a year later. Mr. Groseclose claims to be an expert (most of his training seems to be dated--see the certificates on the wall). For being an expert, it amazes me that he and his team would weld a catalytic converter improperly. Literally, this was the first thing that the exhaust specialist and his team noticed. I was asked how many times it had been replaced as it had been welded twice. I emailed Mr. Groseclose requesting that the $150 he charged me to replace the item to be refunded due to improper installation and faulty products. His response was astonishing, aggressive, and completely unexpected given that I have provided an ample amount of business to his company through the years. I have attached the email exchange that I encountered. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Steve Groseclose performs less than satisfactory work and then threatens to take you to court if you question his expertise at all.

And you only really work on quirky VWs and Audis and certified VW tech? And i do not even need to come with the car (Its on the tow truck at that point)? Ok, i am sold! So, my Bugger gets towed to Steven's shop (Its owners/operators name). He calls me back when truck arrives and lets me know car is safe and sound and that he is going to jump on it in the morning and should be done by 5pm tomorrow. Ok, sounds good. Tomorrow rolls around. Of course, i am inpatient and i call them about 2pm - All good we are smoothly wrenching on it. Will it be done by 5? Yeah, it should or we'll call you not to come for it. Great! So, we jump in my Subaru and get there about 5pm. Owner outside. Its a small shop with bunch of vw, audi, bmws outside. WOW Busy for such small place, cool. My Bug is on the lift humming away. Is it done? Yes. Is it fine? Yes. All went smooth? Yes. Ok great, leeme pay for it. We go in the office and take care of payment, where Steve shows me old water pumps he removed and saved to demonstrate this common VW problem. By the time we done car is outside and ready for us to take him home. All in all it was pretty nice experience - good price, small shop (I do not favor those huge industrial repair facilities), honest service, pleasant owner. What else could one want? I just wish they hosed off the engine or something, it smelled like antifreeze all the way home. Thanks Steve and your guys. Bug is happy and running fine. "I like" Eugene

They have a lot of rust free donor vehicles and also project cars. Ok, they don't always have the cheapest prices but they will work with you to source the correct part & hand it to you or send out. This is not the sort of place you turn up with your tools & crawl around (& given that I was there in 115F heat one day, I wouldn't want to anyway). I do get that some people feel they should be getting the parts cheap because they are "old" but try getting some of these parts aftermarket first & then decide... I thought he meant "around the corner" like... metaphorically. Spiritually. Philosophically. NOPE. Homie meant literally. My old lifelong mechanics packed-up shop in November (RIP to fallen heroes), and I didn't even get my last-minute, "Hey, can you listen to this weird noise real quick?" visit in before they vanished forever. And look... I'm the kind of person who rides the car hard, then panics when it's been too long because cars need maintenance, and maintenance needs money, and I need BOTH those things to keep existing in this world. So I roll up for an introductory oil change, fully knowing my little green micro machine was running on the automotive equivalent of vibes and stale air. I meet Aaron at the front desk... kind, compassionate, chill, and somehow able to listen to my mechanical confessions without judgment. I hear you don't always get that at auto shops. I instantly felt safe, which is wild. I also hear Frank is The Man™. Didn't get to meet him this time, but if he's anything like Aaron, I know he's out there doing God's greasy work. Oil change pricing? Reasonable. Standard. Didn't make me consider pawning anything sentimental. They told me to come back anytime I needed something... and the way I drive? Oh, I might need to. AND THEN... the plot twist of the century. For the first time in the history of me owning this vehicle, I've never assigned a gender to my car. This one was just The Green Machine. Gender-fluid. Mysterious. Vibing. UNTIL Aaron casually said, "Yeah, she's chugging along." Excuse me? SHE? Was I unaware my green machine is actually a badass chick? Apparently, yes. Thank you, Aaron, for revealing the truth about my car's identity. I didn't name her... SHE arrived named. Anyway, I'm officially hooked. This is my new place. I'm gonna dig out the old mechanic list and bring my newly-discovered automotive queen back for whatever tender love and wrench-based interventions she needs. 5/5. New neighborhood unlocked.
