Love the food here! Luckily, I only live a couple miles away. I can pick the food up early (before they run out), and lightly reheat later. I wish they would have enough product so they don't consistently run out. Maybe their supplier can't keep up with them, but they would keep racking in the dough if they could have enough food to meet the hours they're open. Love that they have a full bar. They recently started closing on Wednesday, which I also think is a mistake. Besides these two issues, I still have to give them 5 stars because they're ribs are so damn good! We love this place. I grew up with the historic "Dick's Hickory Dock" known for the best BBQ in the front range. I watched the property struggle with several different owners till finally Switchback opened. I watched as they did a full remodel of the property and was so impressed when we finally tried the bbq. Dicks holds nothing to this. We love the Broken Rover sandwich with beans or fries. After the 9/13/13 flood we heard they got hit hard and wanted to support our beer drinking, meat smoking friends. It was great again. I had the ribs. Perfect. I travel the country and love BBQ. These ribs were amazing, to equal anything I have had in Texas or any other "BBQ" state. Dry rub with a perfect smoke flavor. Dont be fooled by the small size, or the half empty parking lot. This is a gem of the front range. The owners have chosen to build the business by word of mouth and not some miss leading "living social" deal. So step up and try it. My boyfriend has been craving BBQ for months so when I found this spot hidden away in beautiful Evergreen, I was hoping for the best. Pulling up and seeing the outside seating was right next to a bubbling river was picturesque and a perfect setting to eat a yummy meal. When walking in, immediately to your right is a small bar and the ordering station. Drinks were OK, my margarita had too much sour for my liking but my boyfriend raved about his refreshing Moscow Mule. All drinks, including non alcoholic drinks are obtained by the customer at this bar. After heading to the podium, we placed our order and were given the go ahead to seat ourselves. Of course we chose a spot next to the water, classic picnic tables were uncomfortable as usual but again, added to the ambiance of this place. Plus, dogs are allowed as well, which is a plus in my book. We ordered a bunch of food to share: pulled pork, half rack of St. Louis ribs, mac and cheese, and 2 strips of bacon. We chose the switchback sauce as well. WOW! The pulled pork was tender and moist and the ribs might have been the best we've ever had. So much fall of the bone meat and just amazing smoke flavor. The BBQ sauce was a nice compliment to the meats but was totally unnecessary as the meat was so flavorful alone! The bacon was yummy, although it wasn't crispy and some of the fattier parts we just threw away. Overall, this place was delicious and we will definetly be back! WOW!! read more

It was a cute town but the restaurants there were 2 and 3 stars on Yelp. When traveling- I can't waste a meal on a 3 star. We had the most beautiful drive to kittredge. There is a distinction between a "barbeque" joint and a smokehouse - and as a smoke house, Switchback absolutely nails it. You can't fake good smoked food and real smoked meats. The duck was outstanding, pulled chicken was smokey and generous, had a slice of the house-smoked bacon which was great and the Brussels spouts and waffle fries were all perfection. We came on a Sunday and barely got a seat. Lots more outside seating in the summer. It's casual - paper plates - but the interior is nicer than you would expect and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to becoming a regular. read more

The brisket and pulled pork were fantastic, as was the chicken leg. It's a little on the dry side, but that's of little consequence because of the smoky flavors and the pepper rub. Came here for the first time today and this place exceeded expectation. Devils Elbow Pulled pork sandwich was the best I have ever had. My boyfriend says the Spare ribs were amazing. They have 4 different BBQ sauces which come on the side. I like all 4 but my honey loves the Standard sauce. He even took a little home. Can't say enough about this place. I've been coming here for the pass couple of years and have always been happy with my food expect for today. I decided to stop by for lunch and grab some pulled pork and potato salad. The pulled pork is great but the potato salad is where they totally missed the mark. The potato salad which should have been called potato soup was so awful I took one bite and threw it all away. The "potato salad" was more liquid than potatoes or mayonnaise and had a strong taste of dill and dill only. The people at my table were confused as to what it was And wouldn't even try it. We got the brisket, pulled chicken, pulled pork, sausage, waffle fries, asparagus, and Mac n cheese. All the food is delicious!!! My personal favorites are the pulled pork and ribs for meat. I like the mule sauce to put on it to give it a little kick. My favorite sides are the asparagus and waffle fries. The asparagus has a yummy lemon glaze on it and it's just the best! The waffle fries are always fresh and crispy. The service was fast- we got our food within 5 minutes of ordering. I highly recommend coming here after a hike or making the trip to kittredge from Denver. It's worth it! Be warned though- when they run out of food they run out! We enjoyed fall-off-the-bone smoked ribs, jalapeño-elk sausage, fried zucchini, tender smoked brisket, a wedge salad with real Smokehouse style bacon and finally a very unique peach cobbler a la mode with an oatmeal crust. The restaurant was clean and the staff was super friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this place!! The Devils Elbow is by far my favorite menu item! So delicious!! The duck was OK and my favorite thing was the smoked bacon. We did not like any of the barbecue sauces and I think they need to update the recipes on the sauces. Decided to take a drive up to Switchback based on reviews, it was about a 30 minute drive. We ordered our food to go as it was not super wheel chair friendly and the outside patio that we could access was full. Drove down the street about 1 mile to a local park. The fried food (zucchini & fried pickles) were enclosed in a wax Togo type of box which held in all the moisture and caused all the breading to come off, basically it was wet and soggy. We ordered a few sandwiches, one was shredded chicken which was like eating beef jerky (VERY dry) It was a lunch for 4 people, only 1 side and 4 sandwiches, set us back over $60. Was not worth it, and it had a very basic taste. I will not be driving up or BBQ again anytime soon. read more

We are pretty regular customers, the food is always great. We have been having some issues with the restaurant, though. Several times they have been out of something, or two things... That is understandable of course, because it is a smokehouse, and it is in the mountains. Yesterday, we made special plans to meet there with some friends from out of town. We arrived at 7:00. Because they close at 9pm, and it was Friday, we were ready for some great food. However, when we walked to the door a customer who was leaving said "They are sold out!" We laughed, thinking it was a joke... but we were then told the same thing by an employee. Sold of of everything? We questioned, to which they replied "Yes" I find it impossible that they were out of every kind of meat/salad, they could have made us some BLT's and we would have been happy... but we were turned away hungry. We are going to have to reconsider coming here, if they can't stay open until close on a Friday. read more
