We rely so heavily on electricity in our home for comfort, cooking, and connections, and so decided to investigate adding an emergency generator. Switch comes recommended by COSTCO and so I called them. Their guy came and determined our home's layout would make installation of a "permanent" natural gas-powered generator, such as a Generac, impossible and a backup battery seemed cost-prohibitive. And so, I worked with them to decide on purchasing my own portable "tri-fuel" generator from COSTCO. And then Switch Electric came and, in one day, installed the appropriate connections to our natural gas line and electrical breaker box. He stayed until the generator was set up, connected, and the whole system tested. I'm MOST happy with having selected this company and MOST HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM! read more

We are so impressed with Switch Electric! We had a terrible encounter with a fake contractor. Therefore, I did a ton of research before picking our next person. We could not believe that Switch had five stars all across the board. Kory came out and gave us a quote and he was personable, detailed, and incredibly knowledgeable. I did a solar installation with Switch in Edmonds. Switch was the last of four bids and their quote had an additional solar panel and better battery (Franklin vs. Tesla) and it was still cheaper than the second lowest bid. The install was on time and all of the crew - Cody, Tyler, Cortney, etc. were a pleasure to work with. I got a Span panel, and I recommend that with the Franklin battery. 01/2025 update: Continues to be a 5-star-worthy company! Had two Switch Electric technicians come out to replace our fusebox with a more modern one that has a generator hookup in case of outages. Uniformly excellent service every time we interact with this company and its employees. I found Switch Electric by searching nearby companies and saw that they had consistently excellent reviews. Having had technicians come to work on projects around the house on several different occasions--replacing a burnt-out chandelier, installing GFCI and child-safe outlets, and improving our house's grounding--each time I experienced top-notch professionalism and care. Things started out really well with Tyler but then went South later. There was an electrical problem that he fixed which cost me $2,500. But there was some sort of an oil leak that he told me about and made it sound like it wasn't much of a problem. During the next power outage when I use the generator it went through a quart of oil in less than 4 hours. He then referred me to Machias Electric because he said he had too much commercial work to mess with my generator. Machias seems eager to work on the generator at first. He came out, realize the size of the generator was more than he could manage to take back to his shop, said he thought he could fix it on site would be back with some parts, and then I never heard from him again. Even after repeated, five to six times, of phone calls and text messages. So far the generator is still working electrically but with extremely poor customer service I would recommend finding someone else. read more

It took a nearly a month to get the replacement parts, but service was performed to get our trusted generator back in action. Tyler knows his stuff. I'm not sure what happened to my earlier review, but it's good to update things with my latest experience. Had Dan O from Switch Electric come over to diagnose, repair, and test our backup generator. He did a great job and didn't try to upsell us on a new or larger model, even though I asked about where the industry was today and what options made sense. He had clear knowledge of the Generac product line and internals. Their cost in general may be higher than other more generic options - some which are unlicensed or not trained on these units. Totally worth it in my opinion and I also use Switch for regular maintenance. read more

Switch Electric is the most professional and customer friendly that I've met since moving to the Seattle area. They were recommended by a neighbor. Their communication for the estimate was scheduled and Kory the estimator showed up on time and explained their work. The operations team scheduled my panel upgrade project and the crew of Seth and his teammate showed up that day, a little late, but they notified me that they had a crew meeting that morning. The guys jumped right into the project, they explained one issue and how they proposed to solve it. I liked it and approved the slight modification. They did their work, cleaned up after themselves and were professional and nice at the same time! As they left, I thought, I wish all contractors were like these guys :-) I didn't have time that day but later I went back to audit their work and had a question so I called the office and left a message over the weekend. Tyler called me to answer my question and explain an electrical concept that I hadn't run into in all my previous houses. This week, the Seattle City Inspector showed up.
