This company is a fraud. We agreed on terms shortly after the owner, Mike Makus, secretly closed…read morehis business and let his license and bond lapse. We had no idea he had done this, or we would never have allowed him to do the work. He held himself illegally out as still running a business, and then performed the work so poorly that we have to have it all redone. He literally sealed the fireplace making it unusable. We tried it out and choked our family on smoke for hours while we tried to figure out how to put the fire out without creating more smoke. The house and furniture smelled of smoke for weeks. When we gave him multiple months to repair his egregious mistake, which he promised he would with an every other week text message that said he would get it on the schedule, he finally confessed he had been lying the whole time and had no intention of coming out to fix the problem. There is nothing he could say that I would believe at this point, and he has left us with a multiple thousand dollar repair, which is more than the job cost. Do not be duped by him. This has been a nightmare, and he should be ashamed of taking advantage of people the way he has.

He added some sealant around the flashing, but when it rained again, we still had water enter our house around the chimney. I tried to reach Mike again many times and eventually discovered the business has been closed since before we contracted to have the work done. So disappointed. This is a very unethical business. I am on my own to get my chimney back to watertight as it was before he started.

The initial time suggested wouldn't work for me so Edvin stated he would be on site 30 mins earlier. 10:30 AM arrives. No-show from Edvin. No communication, no update, no notice. 8 mins past our agreed upon meeting time, I had to be the one to initiate finding out what happened. Shouldn't the business be the one letting me know if they couldn't make the time BEFORE the agreed upon time? After finding out Edvin couldn't meet that day, he said he could be there the following day at 11AM. Again, another no-show from this company. No communication, no update, no notice. Even after giving them the benefit of the doubt asking if we were still meeting 7 mins AFTER the agreed time, Edvin chose to read the message and remained silent. I thought it was a small job and paid deposit right away. They said they could start Monday Dec 5. Then Dec 9 Edvin said the metals have been delayed for a week due to the holidays. Dec 29 I asked when they would start. They scheduled then canceled on me Jan 14, 26, 30, then Feb 8, and said it was due to inclement weather. Then they handed me off to Sam and said there was confusion and language barrier. Then Feb 25 they said they were waiting on metals again but they did start pulling off the damaged roof. Then I contacted them Mar 1, 3 and no answer. Then Mar 4, 6, 11, 17, 18, 19, 24, 29 it was either sporadic or no communication until I threatened bad reviews. Apr 1 they replaced the new metal roof section. It was not the matching striation of the original panels but I didn't make them change it. I inspected the work and I asked them to cover a small soffit area with metal to protect it and make it look uniform. Also they needed to clean up their scraps. Apr 20 they still had not come back. May 21 they asked for final payment. I reminded them they needed to do the touchups and clean up again. May 25 they finally completed the work and I submitted final payment.

They provided several choices, each of which gave me the best value for my dollars. They worked with me through some scheduling changes so that I could watch the roof go on. What is underneath is really more important than the shingles that went on top. The crew was professional and efficient, and really nice guys to boot. They worked long hours to get it done quickly and cleaned up each night. I told Cameron that I wanted to be around in 50 years to check up on their warranty. He said the roof would be there.

When Steve…read morecame to look at the roof and give a bid, he said that he was not sure if my roof had plywood on the whole roof or not. Looking at it from the attic he could see some roofing nails. All the other 3 companies I had give an estimate said the same thing. My house is 62 years old and is very solidly built. When he did the bid he included 3 sheets of plywood just in case. He did not want to include all the sheets in case it did not need it but said that any additional sheets would be billed at an additional cost. If it was needed, it would take 50 sheets to cover the entire roof. I planned on needing the 50 sheets, so I added that cost to his bid and went with them. When it was all done, he said that it was 58 sheets (which I question, all the other companies I had give me an estimate said it would be 50 sheets). He did not give me the credit for the 3 sheets he added to the bid, saying they were in addition to the extra ones. Needless to say, it cost more than the bid. I would say watch what they are doing and take note of the supplies. The work looks good, except the flashing on the chimney. After not hearing back from them about it, I am having another company come and fix it. I don't really trust them to do it correctly. Only go with them if you want to pay more than they quote.

Dec 16, 2020, Hired Mike Howard to repair structural damaged to my home caused by extensive dry rot…read moredamage. This was not a trivial job. The dry rot had compromised a main structural corner beam which supported the second story. The repair would first require building a temporary support to hold up the second story while removing the damaged support beam and replacing all of the dry rot wood. The repair process required first coordinating with a structural engineer to design a repair plan and then with the Snohomish County office to issue a repair permit. Mike was very helpful through the entire process. Mike was confident that he could perform the repair safely and within code without an engineering drawing, but suggested that the drawing would likely be required for the county to issue the permit. I decided to get the engineering drawing and Mike was right. The county flat out said that this repair required an engineering review and drawing. I told Mike I would hire him for the job, but only after I saw and understood what the repair plan entailed. Mike met with the engineer to discuss the repair job and then Mike outlined for me exactly how he would complete the repair. While listening to Mike explain the repair process it was apparent to me that he completely understood the structural design of a home. Having a contractor with this type of experience and knowledge was the only way I would go. Mike was a pleasure to work with. He answered all of my questions with integrity and no BS. I decided to take the 2 days off to watch the work performed. Mike had no issues with this. He discussed the work while it was in process and I always felt comfortable with his decisions and confidence. The work was done in accordance to the engineering drawing and the permit was signed off and closed without any issues. The images show the before and after work, minus the exterior wall board nailed up. I decided to repair the drywall and brickwork myself. Thanks for a wonderful job and experience Mike.
