We sat indoors and were surprised at the small wine selection, mostly house options. During dinner, boxes of wine were being unloaded and the vibe felt more like we were interrupting a store than enjoying a nice dinner. The vibes were much better out on the dog-friendly patio which had live music. The truffle fries were good and we enjoyed the cheese sauce they came with. The bolognese flatbread had complex flavors and I bet their pasta is delicious with this sauce. It was too spicy for my dining partner, he had one bite with too much red chili flakes. read more

Fun spot in Afton. Friendly staff. Some nice wines. My only critique is the seating.The high top rectangular tables are wobbly & uncomfortable to sit at. I constantly bump my knee into the table legs. I wish they had better seating options especially for 2 & 4 person tables. The best place to sit is at the small bar. Please re-work your tables to provide a better experience for your customers. Otherwise, a lovely place. read more

Love, love love the short rib and some of the wines. I find that the wines are unique and United States based which I love. Outdoor seating in the summer is amazing. It is not on the river side however it feels like it is. The place is supposedly "haunted" with nice haunters. The peaceful feeling is amazing. Just would make the indoor part cozier. Dress in layers in the winter with warm socks, shoes or boots and a sweater with a jacket because it is cold. Odd inconsistent hours. Just make sure it is open when you want to go. read more

Came in at 9pm, servers were distracted with eating their own food and nobody talked to us for 15 minutes. They (multiple servers switching off) took our food order and asked if they could bring everything out at once, even though they are supposed to be open until 10. Wontons had wilted the lettuce they were on and had to be peeled off, the sauce so cheap we were scraping the plates to try to get some. Fondue was broken and grainy. Flatbread was good, but came 15 minutes after the "bring it all together" apps. refill on drinks took long too. Then they tried to bring us the flatbread again, which the servers seemed happy "it's ours now". Sadly disorganized. read more

Swirl is a jewel! It was an unexpected find for us. Our daughter rides horses nearby and we were looking to kill some time with food and beverage. Seriously, super unexpected and what a surprise and delight for Afton. We'll be back every Wednesday!! Service and food was excellent! Really excellent food (tried the pasta, turkey burger, and chicken sandwich, as well as, the apple dumpling -which isn't on the menu right now, but they are serving and it's phenomenal) and all were fantastic! Good wine selection as well. The only downside- the staff was friendly but there were only two other tables (no large parties) and two servers- but the service was a bit slow. We were fine with it, as we were there to catch up, but just go in with that expectation! read more

What a delightful place! I came out with a group of gal pals for the ultimate ladies night which Afton hosts every 3rd Thursday in the month. Several of the businesses stay open later and offer specials between 5 and 8 pm. Swirl had a free wine tasting and offered 6 wines (3 whites and 3 reds) all different kinds from not dry to very dry. The tasting plates they offered looked great and the full meals even more so. I ordered a plate of truffle oil infused herbed french fries with gouda dipping sauce. It was a huge plate for sharing and OMG so amazingly yummy. I so wish I took a picture of this plate but I was so eager to wolf them down, I didn't even stop to snap a shot. I will for sure be back and ordering again so next time! One friend ordered the margharita flat bread, someone else ordered the fish tacos and another ordered the crab cake. All were met with very positive thumbs up! I am a sweet wine kind of gal so I got a glass of the house moscato and it was the perfect dessert wine. Others all went for the merlot and pino grigio. The decor inside is beautiful. They had plenty of wait staff helping with food and wine. Since it was ladies night out, there was a one man band outside playing guitar and keyboard and singing a nice selection of 70's/80's tunes. They have a beautiful patio with firepit tables for warming up on those crisp nights. It was a perfect night to be outdoors and spend with friends. I have now been to Swirl twice and hoped for a better experience. The first visit a few months ago was very slow and from start to finish took 3 hours. Very slow service and were told this was not normal. Went again tonight and it took over an hour to get burgers and flatbread. I have visited many restaurants and served tables in the past and never have experienced 2 visits this slow. Hopefully management will realize this is a problem and make changes. read more

Can I get a woot woot?! I am just so happy I found this little place down in Afton. They have a very interesting menu and some nice spaces to sit and relax drink, eat, and chit chat with friends. I opted for a nice crispy white wine as it was gorgeous outside and ended up getting some stuffed artichoke hearts with boursin cheese ---stellar!!! I am already planning on joining the wine club they offer and going back for certain for the truffle fries with fondue cheese. read more

Attended date night last night with another couple. We both had the salad/flatbread/bottle of wine special. Everything was wonderful! Salad was quick and crisp. The Thai Chicken flat bread was wonderful and just spicy enough. The bottle of wine was a great choice (sorry! don't remember what we choose) and to top it off we received a homemade truffle--very good! We added on and got a plate of the truffle fries and shared an apple dumpling as well. The fries were great and I want to try more of their desserts. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and even explained how their wine club worked when we asked. We were here once before during the summer on the patio but the dining room is just as great. Finally stopped here and had a great Friday afternoon lunch. Nice wines and a great variety. The kitchen is the same as Current's with a slightly different menu. Great short ribs and potato mash, plus my wife pasta was dam near perfect. I did add a little seasoning but that's probably just me. Couldn't ask for better food or service. Next time, when a drop cooler, we will sit out on the patio and stop in for the Friday night wine tasting. This is a gem of a place. read more

Slow service and bad food. Took 45 minutes to get a cheese plate and over 2 hours to get dinner. When the manager came over because it was taking so long, she said it was because I had ordered a gluten-free bun and they wanted to make sure it wasn't mushy. The burger was cold and tough, the fries were overdone, and my husband's risotto was super salty. To top it all off, we got charged for two bottles of wine instead of two glasses until we asked them to correct the bill. read more

It was very enjoyable visiting with friends and dining outside. The food was very good and we loved the basil vinaigrette salad dressing. Our two waitresses seemed friendly enough. The service was probably the worst we have ever experienced. The food was very slow to be served. My wife ordered 2 cokes. Each coke took around 30 minutes before she received it. One waitress dropped part of our flatbread order. She was kind enough to give an additional flatbread. Several of the plates they gave us were dirty. When we requested them to be replaced., they brought a new stack that included several dirty plates . They never asked or refilled my water glass. This was truly a comedy of errors. This is my and my husband's absolute favorite restaurant. The food is fantastic, the wine selection is amazing, but what makes Swirl really stand out are the owner and his team. Dave, the owner, is awesome. He's very often at the restaurant and is always mingling with his guests. He also takes such care in planning special events and picking out fantastic wines from all over the world! And Kurt is fantastic on Fridays for the complimentary wine tastings - highly recommend visiting then! For my and my husband's first anniversary, my husband bought me a subscription to the wine club, and I look forward to receiving the wines every month! They are always so good, and being in the club has really expanded my knowledge of wine in general. And the monthly wine club meet ups are not something to miss! Overall I couldn't recommend Swirl more! read more

We like his direct recommendations on wines and food. He even went out of his way to help my wife get the particular bottle she wanted that wasn't on the menu. What a nice little gem in the heart of Afton! My wife and I slipped away for a nice date night last Saturday. We called ahead to see if we need reservations, but none were needed. I didn't know what how the restaurant would be and expected good food (not great). My wife ordered the slow roasted Norwegian salmon (with curry cous cous) and I had the braised peppercorn beef short ribs. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! SERVICE WAS GREAT! It's a nice wine bar with a selection that is rotated regularly. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up. I really like Swirl.. I had been there for a wine tasting during "Christmas in Afton" event and loved it.. Now I have been a few more times.. Very nice staff, nice environment, good appetizers and wine.. The spicy Chicken Drops are excellent as well as the Flat bread ( I really like the lavender,honey and grape Flat bread- sounds funny but it is excellent).... As far as wine, I really like most that I have sampled there.. :) Nice place.. I even joined the wine club when I was there last. read more

First time in, love the atmosphere & wine selection, my boyfriend & I enjoyed the cheese appetizer, the steak I had was ok, no salt and pepper so not much flavor, but it said pepper encrusted so i asked for steak sauce to flavor it, she said they had none, not even in kitchen, strange! Mashed potatoes tasted super over heated in fact scorched, asparagus was good, think the person working could of been dressed better, jeans, shirt too small, belly was showing, tennis shoes, not the best look for a cute wine bar but that's just my opinion, she was more interested in the work she was doing on laptop vs the few people in there, will possibly come back because I really liked the wine selection and prices! I've heard same owner for all 3 places they have there, current and afton house inn, been to current, horrible service and food, so I wouldn't come back to try the Inn definitely could use some work could be a great place at the wine bar! read more
