    Fondue
    Thomas M.

Came in at 9pm, servers were distracted with eating their own food and nobody talked to us for 15 minutes. They (multiple servers switching off) took our food order and asked if they could bring everything out at once, even though they are supposed to be open until 10. Wontons had wilted the lettuce they were on and had to be peeled off, the sauce so cheap we were scraping the plates to try to get some. Fondue was broken and grainy. Flatbread was good, but came 15 minutes after the "bring it all together" apps. refill on drinks took long too. Then they tried to bring us the flatbread again, which the servers seemed happy "it's ours now". Sadly disorganized.

What a delightful place! I came out with a group of gal pals for the ultimate ladies night which Afton hosts every 3rd Thursday in the month. Several of the businesses stay open later and offer specials between 5 and 8 pm. Swirl had a free wine tasting and offered 6 wines (3 whites and 3 reds) all different kinds from not dry to very dry. The tasting plates they offered looked great and the full meals even more so. I ordered a plate of truffle oil infused herbed french fries with gouda dipping sauce. It was a huge plate for sharing and OMG so amazingly yummy. I so wish I took a picture of this plate but I was so eager to wolf them down, I didn't even stop to snap a shot. I will for sure be back and ordering again so next time! One friend ordered the margharita flat bread, someone else ordered the fish tacos and another ordered the crab cake. All were met with very positive thumbs up! I am a sweet wine kind of gal so I got a glass of the house moscato and it was the perfect dessert wine. Others all went for the merlot and pino grigio. The decor inside is beautiful. They had plenty of wait staff helping with food and wine. Since it was ladies night out, there was a one man band outside playing guitar and keyboard and singing a nice selection of 70's/80's tunes. They have a beautiful patio with firepit tables for warming up on those crisp nights. It was a perfect night to be outdoors and spend with friends. I look forward to coming back and trying the avocado cream cheese wontons with strawberry glaze!

Dig it gorgeous outside chillaxin and relaxing

Can I get a woot woot?! I am just so happy I found this little place down in Afton. They have a very interesting menu and some nice spaces to sit and relax drink, eat, and chit chat with friends. I opted for a nice crispy white wine as it was gorgeous outside and ended up getting some stuffed artichoke hearts with boursin cheese ---stellar!!! I am already planning on joining the wine club they offer and going back for certain for the truffle fries with fondue cheese.

A steak added to the risotto. Excellent, it may be added now to the menu, so ask.

Been here now a few times. First buying a bottle of wine here is very affordable. The food is great. We enjoy the patio on the street. Service is amazing. Today we ordered rissotta with steak, a item not on the menu. I am told it my be now.

    Yes please!!

It was not great. The problem? I think it was because owner/chef Rene Ruiz Olivar was acting as waiter, not chef. We gave Sr. Ruiz the freedom to choose our tapas, with one exception, the black ink pasta with scallops and shrimp (Tinta Negra) that reviewers have raved about. He said, no problema--he would serve it. Then he must have forgotten because we never got it. The first tapa served, almond-crusted manchego (Almendrado), was plated prettily and was delicious but oh-so-sweet. It was an odd choice for a starter, would have been better as the finale in case nobody ordered dessert. Soon came a lamb tapa (Cordero). The lamb chops' quality was uncertain as the meat was severely overcooked. El Bodegon's langoustines (Gambas al Ajillo) had given every bit of their sea flavor to the sauce, which was magnificent, we all agreed. But where were the dish's promised mussels, the rice? One shared plate, a beef tenderloin tapa (Carne Brava), had apparently lingered too long in the kitchen--the meat was nearly cold. I adore papas bravas (Patatas Bravas). I must have had the dish a dozen times or more during my last trip to Spain, in 2017, when I visited friends who live in Ronda. During my six-week stay, we toured Andalucia, staying at hotels in large cities and visiting small towns. I also spent time sola in Madrid and Barcelona. Unlike in Spain, El Bodegon's potatoes were diced to death. Never in Spain have I ever had patatas bravas that were not substantial in size. All in all, I found the vegetables accompanying the tapas unrecognizable except for the tiny Brussels sprouts. The rest seemed chopped up or stirred to pieces in the pan. Some of my friends had churros for their dessert. They deemed them appropriately hot and tasty. My dessert was cheesecake torte, decked out with a candle as it was my 90th birthday. The torte was a gold-star winner. It was absolutely delicious, its plating the most successful of the evening. It was so perfect it almost made up for the sub-par tapas that preceded it. One of us had a view of the kitchen from his seat at the table. He saw a man other than the chef/owner doing the cooking. Was he a trainee? Did Sr. Ruiz help with the plating? God knows he didn't have a lot patrons to contend with in his role as waiter. It was a slow weeknight, and there were never more than four tables occupied. I sincerely regret that our time at El Bodegon differs from so many reviewers. Like them, I want to see Sr. Ruiz's little restaurant succeed. He has a hard row to hoe, and I hope a disappointing dinner like ours does not befall anyone else going forward.

As usual, Rincón 38 served up a splendid evening thanks to the delicious food, wonderful service, and delightful environment. We got some of our reliable favorites--piquillos, the queso frito, and the coliflor. As usual, the flavors and plating were exquisite. I always appreciate the balance of flavors and textures. Salty, savory, sweet, and piquant meet tender, creamy, and crispy. It is truly always a delight for all the senses. My birthday treat was the créma catalana, the Catalan answer to crème brûlée: sweet custard sits under a crunchy sugar crust and is topped with a lovely cinnamon-flavored apple concoction. We also tried a relatively new addition to the dessert menu--the Spanish coffee flan. With just the right amount of sweetness, this flan was sturdy and lemurs in your mouth. The coffee balanced the sweetness and creaminess--imagine the best coffee dessert you have had, and you're getting close.

The place is not very big so it's quite cozy for seating. Our server was great in helping us through the menu. It's all tapa small plates so knowing which were the favs, how many typically are ordered person, etc was helpful. I won't remember the names of the 4 plates we chose but they were all excellent. One had asparagus and mushrooms, one was kabobs, one was prawns, and one was fish. The textures and flavors worked excellently for each plate. Four plates for the two of us was a good amount. We finished with a crème brûlée type dessert which was light and delicious. Street parking is available. We loved our experience. Can't wait to go back.

Pour is in a little strip mall. They have added black curtains and some cozy seating areas from when we were here last. Nice updates. Our waitress was very accomdating until she got busy then we felt we were forgotten. We ordered the Drunken shrimp , bread with olive oil and the avocado toast to start with. The drunken shrimp is just as good as we remember the saffron sauce is sooooo good! but there were 3 of us sharing the apps and it only came with 2 crostini's we asked for a 3rd so we could each have one but little did we know that one very small skinny piece of bread had a $1.00 charge to it. The steak bites with their homemade blue cheese sauce was to die for melt in your mouth!! I even asked if we could buy some of the blue cheese sauce, she said no but that she would bring us another dish of it but she never did. My girlfriend ordered a cranberry mule drink, she was charged an extra $1.00 for the cranberry. We also ordered the goat cheese with sauces that were very delicious with an ample amount of crackers. We got the chocolate Ganache cake to share for dessert. But............ the waitress never took our empty dirty plates but showed up with the dessert with the mess on table, I asked for extra clean plates but she never brought them. Everything we ordered was very delicious, but as the night progressed our service got worse, we asked for the bill but she never came back to get our payment and we had questions my girlfriend walked it up to the bartender with our payments. 2 of us were paying cash and one a credit card and we were charged an extra fee of $5.18 for her using a credit card. That is when we saw the $1.00 charge for 1 piece 3/8" bread and the $1.00 for cranberry mule. Talk about nickel and diming. We would love to go back but unsure if I can get past some of these things. Also, now looking at the bill even closer, none of us had a mimosa and we were charged $8.95 for one.How did we miss that? All added up we paid $16.00 more than we should have. CRAZY!! Sadly, Don't know if I'll be back.

The hotel staff was nice upon checking in, but we had a few issues throughout the night. The rooftop hot tub was a key factor in selecting this location, but it was full of bugs. We asked them to come to clean it out, and they did, but they made sure to tell us before leaving that they couldn't get all the bugs out. After the hot tub, we took showers and the hot water was out by the 2nd shower. We went to call them and realized there were no phones in the room. We used our personal phones to call and when maintenance came they said it was hot and asked if was it just not hot enough for us. They then said that we were at the end of the hallway and there was a wedding that day. Were we supposed to have cold showers because of that? The hotel does not offer microwaves or a fridge but advised we could have one declined to the room. We had a fridge brought up and it was huge. Came to my waist. It was dented and did not smell clean. Luckily we traveled with Lysol wipes and cleaned it out ourselves. We also noticed several dead gnats and spiderwebs in the window area. The air conditioner is loud and outdated. Random bathroom hair that didn't belong to us. The list goes on. Not exactly a relaxing vacation location. Lobby and hallways were nice though.
