Great coffee. Really excellent. Fresh and delicious. They clearly choose excellent beans, roast, and then brew it extremely well. The staff could be more friendly and smile sometimes. Look at me, it helps me feel as if we share this space and that we are both human. Service is quick, even on a weekend. But I'd appreciate a bit of humanity also. The ambience is a bit lacking. The building looks like it was a fire station in an earlier incarnation. There is a lot that could be done to help make the coffee shop feel more 'homey'. It wouldn't take much to achieve this. One of the best coffee shops and roasters in the area. It has been there for a long time. My favorite order is a cappuccino with a cranberry scone. For those who are adventurous, the seasonal drinks are good and interesting. The baristas are great, I have been a customer for a while and never have had a complain. Swings is a solid roaster and coffee shop. This may be one of the few I go to for a cup of drip. There are also pasties to chow on with your cup of Joe. Even better they use ceramic cups which makes the coffee taste better than paper. It is a less wasteful approach. I like the industrial warehouse feel of this coffee shop. It doesn't feel like a cookie cutter, although they are expanding. All the coffee here is good. Service is quick on the weekdays but expect to wait 10 minutes for a speciality drink on the weekends. The outside area has a few tables and allows dogs. They had a lot of merch for sale as well. We ordered a hot vanilla chai latte and an iced mocha. Both were good. My chai was 'spicier' than what I'm used to but still very good. We also ordered some pastries, a chocolate croissant and a cinnamon roll. Both good, but their cinnamon rolls are topped with cream cheese rather than traditional icing. This is my go to location for Swings coffee ... one of the oldest roasters in the U.S. They roast their coffee here and I'm proud to support this local roaster by purchasing their whole beans. Swings is a winner. Friendly staff. Amazing interior set up and design. Community tables and some smaller 2 person ones. A little off the path from other places you may be walking unless you're at the park across the street. I always seem to miss the fresh baked goods when I come in but was finally able to get my hands on a chocolate chip cookie that they partner with another shop for and it was delicious. This visit I had a vanilla latte and it was delicious. Busy on weekends so gotta be patient, especially when the fields across the street are in use.. all in all I would recommend them! As I always look for something to improve on, I noticed a lack of electrical outlets especially if you are at any of the big tables.. so have whatever you need charged if you plan on working for a bit.. also a little pricey but you are paying for quality stuff! read more

It seems like I'm always driving or walking past this place ever since I moved to Alexandria over a year ago. I finally found time to swing by (pun unintended) and give the place a try. I was completely amazed by the open view of the roasters behind glass. We really enjoyed seeing the green coffee go into the roaster as we sipped on our lattes. My husband even got an espresso before we left. I'm a huge coffee connoisseur and it's tough finding good coffee in the area, so it was great to finally have a decent coffee or espresso. They also offer cupping (which I've done in Rwanda), but I couldn't find the schedule. read more

The space is great! Lots of seating and free WiFi as well. They still had their winter specialty drinks out so I tried the iced gingerbread latte. It was delicious and perfectly sweet! Stumble upon this coffee shop after leaving Aldis and I am so happy I did. The inside of the coffee shop was clean and very spacious. The coffee shop has a lot of seating inside for you to do work and or hang with friends/family. They sale merchandise. The customer service was amazing. The guy who took my order was very pleasant. I tried the maple iced latte and it was a 10/10 and I tried the buttermilk biscuit. The only downside fall is that they don't have a way to warm your pastry. But once I got home and was able to warm the biscuit it was delicious. Definitely adding this to my list! read more

I can't believe I haven't already reviewed Swing's. I've been here hundreds of times over the past decade; it used to be very close to my office and I would come to work here when I had a project that required some uninterrupted time. They have a great atmosphere--good music (subjective, I know) that isn't too loud, they have plenty of seating at a mixture of bar stools and tables, and they have a good array of baked goods to go along with their coffee (I'm a sucker for a Parmesan leak croissant or a cheese and chive scone). Their espresso is always good, whether getting their house blend or their rotating single origin options, and they always have 3-5 pour overs available. I'm drinking a honey processed Costa Rican coffee now and thoroughly enjoying it. They also have good looking seasonal specialties, but I tend to stick to the basics. Service is always friendly and fairly quick. Some of their baristas have been at this location for a long time, which is great. read more

I think we're moving on from Swings. Been buying their coffee beans for years, and they're solid and we like to support local roasteres. But they only sell some coffee beans bag sizes on some days, and lately when we show up on those special days they sometimes aren't selling them then either for whatever reason. Delicious Nitro latte!! Swung by Alexandria on a weekend and decided to stop by this coffee shop to get some work done. I really enjoyed the Nitro latte! It had a good balance between milk and coffee. The coffee and the subtle tangy flavors were prominent but did not overshadow the sweet creaminess. I loved this place. It was hands down the best nitro I ever tasted. It looks almost identical to a Guinness. Delicious coffee cake too. The vibe was friendly and communal. Super nice staff, and when there weren't enough spots for me to sit, another patron welcomed me to sit with her. We actually ended up chatting a bit and having a nice conversation. This is a great place to do work and just hang out a while. I love the cook neighborhood it's in, and I took the nearby bike path to get there.
