During the day, some of us stayed in the rafts with the guides and others ventured out in inflatable kayaks. This was a first whitewater experience for some of our group and they felt very safe and gained a ton of skills! The food was excellent too -- how often does someone cook you salmon and pineapple upside down cake while you sit in the river?! 10/10 would recommend.

This is a find that I am hesitant to post as it will become a favorite of any "Glamper" and RV enthusiast for it's obvious offerings. To begin with, it is a heck of a drive as this place is located off the US 95 Route near Baker Gultch on the Salmon River in White Bird, Idaho. Not especially on a "destination" list but definately worth the trip. We only stayed one night as it was time to head back home from our long trip but will be back. The cabin was spotless, staff consisted of a manager and a very sweet gal and her two awesome little boys and an incredbly handsome german shepherd named Vox. We showed up with some big drops of water from the sky bringing down a combination of ashes from the fires out west and smoke which had been hazing the landscape for the past 50 miles or so. The evening was incredibly peaceful and in the morning I went to explore the beach and river access. Bring some floaties or a kyack/canoe or fishing pole. The gentleman at the edge of the water fishing said you can catch a bass from his spot! There are also River Tours down the road and all kinds of activities. We only took part in the peacefulness part. Beds were comfortable, bedding clean and rooms well appointed. Small refridgerators, microwaves and sattellite tv. WiFi was also avaliable. I would love to come back here to enjoy some of the activities but it is a really long way from home. If we ever plan a trip that direction, it is definitely a spot I would love to stay.

Steep mountains on both sides of the large and ever-flowing Salmon River. We were very happy that The RV Landing was open for business and decided to join RV-owning friends for a weekend. We rented the very comfortable two-story cabin situated right on the bank of the river. The RV Landing is very well appointed with easy access from the road. Wide, gravel roads within the park lead to generous RV sites equipped with electrical, water and waste hookups, surrounded by lawns, picnic tables and fire pits. If you're camping in a tent, there is a new, modern restroom facility very close. The shower rooms are private, heated, and very clean. The cabin was equipped with everything we could possibly need to prepare meals (pots, pans, utensils, mixer, microwave, oven, solid-surface cooktop, very large sink, disposal, etc.), and also included spices and some condiments. The linens were high quality too! The master bed is excellent (a Westin bed) and it was just wonderful to sleep surrounded in down-filled comfort. There are also bunk beds in another sleeping loft area. I suggest you check out the photos on their website when you're gathering information. The canyon is huge (friends jet boated 75 miles up river from the Carlson Ranch!). This area is very popular for jet boating, fishing, rafting, hiking, off-road vehicle use, or just enjoying the wide, sand beaches along the shores. Cyclists enjoy riding along the river for 'unlimited' miles too. The RV Landing at Carlson Ranch is a very well-thought-out destination you'll enjoy returning to again and again.

First off the park is beautiful and nice to look at. However, I witnessed some things that would…read moreensure I will never come back. They have a dog on leash policy, which is posted everywhere. On my morning walk I witnessed a gentleman two campsites down walking his dog off a leash down by the boat Storage. The Park host asked him to put the dog up and he did so immediately. While the Park host continued walking her dog around the park, she witnessed somebody else three campsites down from him, exercising his hunting dogs down by the river. She yelled at this older gentleman to lock his dogs up, but I would say it was safe to assume he couldn't hear. The Park host then walked her dog all the way into somebody else's campsite where they had their dog leashed and tied to the fire pit. After a few seconds, the park host little dog snapped at the other dog chained to the fire pit and they got into a fight. Nobody was injured, but the Park host was definitely in the wrong. She screamed at my girlfriend and I while all this was going on and we were five campsites away doing nothing. While this is happening the gentleman three campsites down was putting his dogs in the trailer and the lady screamed at him as well. After everything was said and done the gentleman with the two hunting dogs who had nothing to do with any altercation whatsoever was kicked out of the park that day for something he had nothing to do with. Because the Park host demanded an apology from him for something he had nothing to do with. The lady that owned the other dog involved in the altercation went and told the Park host it had nothing to do with the other gentleman, but because he hurt the Park hose feeling by not apologizing for something he didn't do he was kicked out. This was not fair or just. It has nothing to do with me, but I watched the entire scenario unfold and the park host as well as the park Owner were completely in the wrong!

This park has a FANTASTIC visitor center! I mean it's not packed with tons of info but it's got a solid little bit, nice folks, a good little gift shop, clean bathrooms, what more could you want? There are so many trails with an abundance of options for difficulty, or even just driving through was tranquil. We saw a huge variety of birds, wildlife, flowers, and just incredible views. It's worth a visit, take a day and explore, we went in late June and saw many adorable fawns and deer!

The weekend we were here- every camper was friendly, weather was fabulous and it's another really clean state park campground. Another win for Idaho's state park facilities! Hells Canyon Reservoir runs from Copperfield Oregon up north along the Snake River/Hells Canyon all…read morethe way up to the dam. It's a long, fairly narrow reservoir that sits in a steep, picturesque canyon. You can access it from both the Oregon and Idaho sides, with numerous areas for camping and boat launch on both sides. This river reservoir is nestled in a hot, dry climate and offers an emerald-hued escape from the oppressive heat. We visited on a day that crested well over 100 heatwave) and, well, that's pretty much perfect for enjoying the cool water. There are a ton of trailheads along the reservoir if you want to hike up to the canyon rim, and definitely tons of lakefront to stretch out on. Aside from the established campgrounds there are a bunch of pullouts on Hells Canyon Road suitable for car camping. This is definitely a locals spot, and not really a destination. I think Wallowa Lake is more for the Portland tourists. But that said, it's easy to see how this is a really popular spot for party boats, water skiing, and simple lake-style recreation.
