Just a solid, home-cooked style lunch spot if you're in downtown OKC. I come into OKC a couple times a month and work out of an office across the street from here and I love that I can get a decent little lunch for under $10. I really enjoy the chicken noodle soup! Sandwiches aren't anything super special, but a good, home style sandwich. Check out the blue plate special. It's rotating daily. I'm not a huge meatloaf person, but I do enjoy it here when it's on special. The lady who takes orders is sweet and you can tell that she takes an effort to get to know her regulars. There are large windows in the dining area, so it makes for a great spot to do some people watching. This charmingly quaint spot in downtown OKC would fit in better in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. My first thought was to describe it as "just like your momma made it", but I think it would be more accurate to say "just like the community dinner served at church". It was all very tasty and filling, but nothing too special. i returned to Sweets and Eats last Tuesday when the blue plate special was chicken fried steak. As I anticipated, I am able to update my review and bump S&E up a star. The chicken fry was LEGIT. First of all, it's pan fried, not deep fried. This, in my opinion, is the superior method. But, so many places just dunk the steak in a deep fryer. I'm not saying that method can't produce a very good steak; it can. But, I prefer pan frying. When we approached the window to order, we saw a guy running 4 large cast iron skillets at once, pan frying the steaks. I tried to get a picture but the place was packed and that didn't work out. But, it clear wasn't this guy's first rodeo, he was getting them out very quickly. Additionally, he drained the excess oil off of each steak, which makes them crispier when they get to you. We didn't even wait 5 minutes before we had our lunches. The special includes the steak, gravy, corn, mashed potatoes, and a yeast roll. All of this plus an iced tea was less than $11, including tax. All were fantastic. The steak needed a knife, which is okay. The breading was crisp and seasoned well, and adhered well to the meat. The gravy wasn't too thick and needed more pepper for my taste. But, it was a nice consistency. The mashed potatoes were the "worst" part of the meal. I put worst in quotations because they still were very good, just the worst part of the meal. The corn was seasoned VERY well. And, the yeast roll was textbook: hot, dense, but not too thick, but a nice exterior. Went very well sopping up the excess gravy. We all agreed we could have easily eaten a whole other lunch, it was that good. I checked the website, and it looks like S&E only does chicken fries every 2 weeks or so. But, next time chicken fry is the blue plate special, you'll find me here. read more

Happened upon sweets and eats at The Bleu Garten. We ordered the chicken nachos and chicken bacon ranch spud. They used 'what seemed like' your typical movie theater nacho cheese, chips, pickled jalapeños, and sour cream on the nachos. For $7-8? Can't say it's worth the price but the portion was huge so fed good to share! The spud was tender and packed full of toppings in every bite! so it was a bigger hit imo. read more

I was handed a sheet of paper where I added my name and circled which ingredients I wanted in my taco salad. I sat down at my table, and two minutes later I heard my name called. I went up to the window and was handed a plate, or a mini-UFO, whatever it was. It was a BIG plate of taco salad, enough for two people. I thought it was going to come in a small bowl. With the lines this place has everyday, how is there not more reviews? I see the one bad review...I actually think the reviewer makes a valid point, the sandwiches really are nothing special. However, that is not their specialty, so I think a 1 star is a bit harsh. They arent claiming to be a sandwich shop. They are a home cookin kind of place. I will however take one star off for the sandwiches. If you arent going to do it well, take it off the menu. But the remaining stars are for what they do. They cook up some great meals that you dont really find anywhere else in this town, except maybe you moms house (or perhaps your friends moms). Evryone loves the pot roast. Cool. Its not my favorite. Its good, I just make a better one, so Im spoiled. I really like the beef tips in gravy over rice (or noodles). The meatloaf is solid too. The lasagne is also a good choice. I was scared to try the hobo dinner, i had heard it was ground beef and I didnt know how i felt about that, but was told how good it was so i gave it a try. It was well seasoned and delicious. While this place isnt anything special, meaning, you wouldnt go out of your way to come here, I do think it adds some variety to the downtown area. I like to see places like this succeed. Lets be honest, there is too much mediocrity in the downtown food scene, so this place is a breath of fresh air. I also overheard the lady working the register (owner?) telling someone they just paid off all the loans or for the space or something. First, that was great to hear that. I hope they re-invest in the business and build up a little more. Support local business owners that put out a good product for a fair price. The best downtown lunch stops in Oklahoma City are country home cooking, and this is the most popular for excellent reason. Daily blue plate specials are the big draw. Be warned: Thursdays are pot roast, and the size of the crowd is insane. Simple plastic plates, nice people and fresh homemade food make this the place to be. Personally I love the chili, cornbread and meatloaf. As the name indicates, they have desserts that are pretty tasty too, although most people resist. It can get crowded, but it's very comfortable. You can see a wide variety of people, from executives and lawyers in expensive suits (no one wears a suit in OKC!) to the hockey coach taking a player out for lunch. Great place. Meals kept coming out regularly so they must have many large to go or something else dragging them down. Once received, the meatloaf was firm but not dry. The potatoes were good texture. I had never heard of this place, but my coworkers recommended it so we headed there for lunch. I was not disappointed! They have daily lunch specials, and that day was baked chicken. My three coworkers each ordered that and said it was really good. Huge portions of baked chicken (seriously, I've never seen a chicken breast this big). I ordered a cheeseburger as that's kind of my go-to when trying a new place. It was delicious! Well cooked and flavorful. The patty was thick without being too big. My family was in Oklahoma City for a vacation. It was the day before Thanksgiving, and we had just eaten at a restaurant that did not have great desserts. We walked in sweets and eats and were helped by young man behind the window. We asked about desserts that were on the counter, and when we finished he explained that they were closing early for Thanksgiving and that we could have whatever we wanted.
