We ventured out today for lunch after being home bound due to a winter storm that rolled in last Friday. We decided on The Press in the Plaza District. Good choice! All secondary roads are still snow packed so at 11:30 there was only one other couple in the restrauant. The Press is in an old (1920's ?) repourposed building. The interior is comfortable, charming and a bit whimsical. We started with an order of cheese sticks. They were very good and large. I liked that the cheese sticks did not have Italian seasoning in the breading. Jan ordered the chicken fried ribeye with mashed potatoes, cream gravey and green beans. Jan loved it. I took a bite of the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The green beans were very good. They were loaded with garlic, which I love, but if you're not a garlic fan, I would suggest another side. I ordered the grilled chicked sandwich with waffle fries. The sandwich was good and the waffle fries were excellent. The portions are large and the food quality excellent. The prices reasonable. The menu has variety. Such a treasure buried on a side street in the Plaza district. Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff await you behind the colorful teal door into this establishment. I've been here twice and each time leaves me looking forward to my next visit. Adriana was our server last time and did an amazing job. Quick to keep our coffees topped off and full of information about the food items I was considering. I had the Big Boi Burrito, and it was very filling and yummy. Back to back duds... what happened to this place??? A month or two ago we went and ordered the same thing we usually get. Half our order came out completely wrong. I asked how long approximately it'd be to bring the right meal. He took the plate and came out a minute later and told us it'd be about 15 mins. I told him never mind, we'd just take what we got and call it a day, no sense in wasting food. He hesitated and said the kitchen staff was actually already eating it themselves. Considering this was a minute or so after bringing it back, I have to wonder if they "messed up" or if they were just hungry. No comps or apologies btw. Today, we tried our luck again. We waited at the front counter for a while before being sat - not a good start. The hostess was wearing a baggy hoodie and jeans, never greeted us, and barely acknowledged us. Made me wonder if she even worked there. We counted and 14 minutes passed before a waitress came over and asked if we'd been helped yet. I told her no, but that we were ready to order. After ALL of the hassle, it turns out they were out of half the stuff we were wanting to order! At 130pm on a weekend! We just got up and left. What a giant waste of time. I do not understand how bad kitchen management had to be to run out of food and have no backup plans at lunch time. Couple this with the awful service and mistakes and you have a major problem brewing here. I don't know what's going on here but they better figure it out, it's now becoming a consistent issue. Very imPRESSed!!!!! to say the least. This is like my backyard over here grew up as a kid right down the street and to see how things have changed and to watch this Plaza grow is really inspiring. Now onto the food I've eaten here several times, but this is by far the best thing that I've had the black and catfish was so good! We had dinner at The Press in Oklahoma City around 8:30 p.m. and found it to be a real gem. The restaurant was quiet and tastefully decorated, with a couple of TVs by the bar that weren't at all distracting. Our server, Taylor, was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations. On her suggestion, we both ordered the pot roast, and oh my goodness... it was incredible. Pure comfort food at its finest. We couldn't stop raving about it! Taylor also mentioned that their Cobb salad and quesadillas are phenomenal, and I have no doubt the rest of the menu has plenty of winners. She noted the place is often quite busy and lively earlier in the evening, which I was glad to hear because a spot this good deserves a long, successful run. This may be one of the best restaurants in town when accounting for multiple things like decent Southern options, flavor, consistency, price, and lastly, value (i.e., quality with respect to price). The Press Cobb may be one of the better salads (if not the best) in town. Filling, flavorful, and packed full of good ingredients; something to be especially appreciated in this shrinkflationary economy where every other restaurant bilks you by either cutting portions/ingredients while also simultaneously jacking prices up. Also, their fries are truly delightful. Honestly, I've never had a bad thing yet. Never change, the Press. Holy cow! I feel like an ate a whole cow with the portion sizes here! Service was quick and so friendly. The mozzarella sticks were phenomenal. Fell apart; they were so fresh! The Press has a very young serving team so we give them grace. My table of 4 was sat about 10-15 minutes before a large sport group showed up, they were tended to first and with a bit more care. It took about 10 minutes to even get water on the table. Just some things to work on. As far as the food, the shrimp and grits was amazing, I added a piece of the super crispy catfish for some razzle dazzle. Star of the show! This is only my second time ever eating at The Press, but it's beloved comfort food! It was years ago, but I distinctly remember enjoying the buffalo Mac and cheese. So it made an impact! We had 2 servers checking on us, so service was great. My colleague even got fresh chips to-go with her queso. It's located a little in a back alley, but has great indoor and outdoor seating. It's August 31st 3:57pm. Sunday. Not very busy, I think we missed the brunch rush. We were oddly greeted and stared at by the 6-7 staff members at the counter. They maybe asked us 2-3 if we had been helped, so I'm not sure how communication/roles are here. We were seated and given waters. They asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Speed of service was good for the occasion. The restaurant is much larger on the inside that it looks on the outside. Lots of Edison bulbs hanging, mostly wood interior with brick walls. Very lodge like. The booths are nice and tall for privacy. My girlfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. She said they were an 8/10. She says they grits weren't too heavy, they were cheesy and creamy. The shrimp was well cooked with a good amount of blackened seasoning, and the gravy was light and flavorful. She got no bacon in the photo shown. I got the Buffalo Mac. The noodles were a really fun and tasty texture. The Buffalo sauce was pretty standard, but the chicken was the star. Crispy and juicy. I was worried it might've been pre-prepared fried chicken, but it's actually a whole piece of fried chicken cut up. The ranch on top was light but added a little more flavor. Medium level of cheesiness. I added some salt and pepper to heighten the flavor, as just the cheese sauce and noodles were a tiny bit bland. Overall, pretty good. Huge portion, we ate it all but I probably could've taken about half to-go. Would come back, some other menu items looked really good! read more

Visited the Press for a 7pm dinner on a Friday night and was very impressed overall. The restaurant featured indoor and outdoor seating and is more vast than it would appear. Upon entering we're promptly greeted and were able to make a same day reservation too although I'd recommend making one in advance. We tried the tots 2 ways which was good overall but we asked for the meat on the side as the whole party doesn't eat pork or beef and it wasn't presented that way. That was the only issue though. For dinner I ordered the Cajun catfish and substituted the grits for mac and cheese and it was by far one of my favorites dishes of all time. Everything was well seasoned and the fish and crawfish paired really well with the mac and cheese. I'd highly recommend them and would recommend going for happy hour. read more

Wow, 7 years since my last visit here, but I'm back in the 405 and hitting all the old haunts. The Press: the service is still fantastic, the interior/exterior is stunning, and the food is still pretty good overall. The pet peeve-- the kitchen minion who prepped the kale on the day of my visit needs to be locked in the walk-in for their crimes. My bowl (of salad) was filled with thick raw stems, which was unpleasant to eat. If this is a kitchen management/chef choice...yikes and also why? read more

Well it's Christmas season and they have lights and Christmas music playing. The tables have electrified art on wood, but tilted quite a bit. The service was prompt and friendly, but could have been more empathetic when wife complained about cold soup. We initially ordered the queso which I was excited about, but our wait staff appeared to be too high to remember. I can't speak on how well the service was because it wasn't great. I'm fine with wait staff being high because that is what a lot of the industry is, but when it is so apparent and you start missing things on the orders and it's obvious, that's when I have an issue. The food looked great. I ordered the chicken fried ribeye that came with mashed potatoes and gravy along with asparagus. Also ordered the chowder. The chowder was really good and had everything you could want in it. The presentation was awesome and would definitely get again. The chicken fried ribeye was good, but not impressive. Ambiance - Cool and casual, but the competing music between the bar dining area where they seated us and the kitchen made it hard to hear each other. I ordered the Theta-Ish burger on a GF bun, which turned out to just be GF bread. The flavors were great and the bacon was perfect for a sandwich/burger - not too crispy but just crispy enough. I subbed the sweet potatoes tots for the waffle fries and that was a good choice. My spouse had the chicken sandwich on GF bread and said it was just OK.
