It's been awhile since I've been to Sweeting, and today was the first day I've been back. Since my last visit, the drinks have gotten better. I got a Taro Frostea and my boyfriend got a Coffee British Styled Milk Tea. Surprisingly, the Frostea wasn't icy like the last time I had it. It's more flavorful and more blended so it's not just pure ice. Also, my boyfriend thought his Coffee Milk Tea wasn't too watered down. However, I haven't tried their Matcha Milk tea in awhile so hopefully my next visit, the drink ill be delicious. Also, since the last time I've been back, the price of their Rolled Ice Cream has decreased by $1. Although it's more pricier than Chicago, this is definitely a steal since AA doesn't have any other Rolled Ice Cream shops. The reason why I still can't give Sweeting a 5 star is due to the price of their Hong Kong Style desserts. Although they are very delicious, they're really small for their cost. Asian desserts in Michigan? No way!!! Apparently the Asian population at the u of Michigan is 14.5% thus, the demographically appropriate venue of Hong Kong style desserts is a must visit. Getting a boba milk tea with red bean ice cream rolls after dinner is just what I needed. Such a unique place for several reasons, but lacks some of the quality aspects. Price: Rolled ice cream is $6 and can only choose two toppings. For that price, I would allow people to include as many toppings as they want because the cup can only fit so many. Order strawberries as a topping, you'll get one maybe two chopped up. Interior: This is where the place is lacking. They try to be a hangout place, but the restaurant could use some work. Half the experience of getting rolled ice cream is watching it be made, but it's thrown in the corner with some clear glass so you can watch but they can only make one at a time in the small space. There's some old couches in here that people can sit on but have definitely seen their fair share of wear. I've been here at least ten times and every time the tea is different. I get the same thing every time. Some days it's good and some days it's just not as good. I can't say anything about the food because I haven't had it. Whenever we go in it doesn't seem like people are eating it. I have had one of the desserts, the banana Mochi and it was pretty good. The atmosphere and very nice and perfect to hang out with friends or to have a study session. Overall I really like this place and would recommend it. Good solid tea, a functional if slightly bare interior, and (the day I visited) fairly quiet customers. Works for me! I got a simple tea --- Classic milk tea, half sugar, with boba. The pearl tapioca was a bit uneven --- very soft on the outside, a little dry on the inside. I usually go for a nice, even-textured boba. The tea portion was fine; not too sweet (as requested) and a nice, normal tan color. I've had my fill of neon-green bubble tea. The wi-fi is free, the password hand-lettered in Sharpie on a piece of paper on the counter. Plenty of small hi-top tables to chat and sip, not a lot of relaxing spaces. I love the green color of the walls! I'm especially a fan of the graphics on the wall to the left when you walk in from the entrance. I've been here multiple times before for food, bubble tea, and even their new rolled ice cream! I usually get their black bean noodle which is pretty good, but just a little salty sometimes. This is probably the only place to get decent bubble tea for miles, so we, students at the University of Michigan, really don't have a choice. It's conveniently located on the South campus, near the Ross department. They have the option of a classic milk tea or British milk tea for their bubble milk teas. The classic one tastes diluted, so go with the British one, which is thicker, just as other milk teas usually are. I have two go-to drinks: 1. British milk tea with boba, less ice 2. After not coming for awhile me and a few friends decided to meet up and grab a drink here. I was expecting a lot more from this place especially after new management. I got the British green milk tea with black bubbles and soy milk. They charge extra for a substitute for other milk that they use which I think is a little bit of an inconvenience for those who can't drink milk like myself but this isn't too much of an issue for me. They tea cake out extremely watery and I was very disappointed. I couldn't even taste the green tea! The atmosphere is very cute and it's a fun place to hang out with friends. I was here a few years ago and got the milk tea with boba and I really liked it. I came back the other day and unfortunately was not impressed. The atmosphere itself feels run down and the drinks we got weren't good. I got a mango green tea with sago. The green tea with mango was okay but the sago was very odd. I popped in for a quick bubble tea, but was extremely disappointed with the result. I was introduced to bubble tea in Taipei nearly two decades ago, I and grew up in SoCal where good bubble tea is prevalent. All I wanted was a basic milk tea with boba. Even ordering that was a challenge: the menu is extensive and the distinction between "British style" and "Original" was not adequately explained by the server. I opted for Original. It was extremely watery and bland. The flavor was also not what I was expecting--akin to weak breakfast tea mixed with skim milk. The boba was soft and relatively flavorless. More troublingly, there was very little boba in my medium tea and I ran out about halfway through the drink. I'm giving them two stars since I liked the atmosphere and I hesitate to base a one-star review on a single item during a single visit. This has been my favorite spot for bubble tea in AA over the past several years! It's a good study and hang out spot. My go to beverage is the British milk tea with half sugar and bubbles. The British milk tea is made with non-dairy creamer, perfect if you have lactose intolerance. I like that the drinks are customizable - you can order the level of sugar you want in your beverage, and they do pay attention to your order when you say 'warm' versus 'hot' when ordering your drink. I also like their taro milk tea and iced, non milk-based teas with grass jelly added. In the corner of the shop, they have an ice cream rolling station. I totally recommend trying this! I've tried the matcha flavor. They smear ice cream on to a cold stone into thin sheets and then carefully rolled into delicate columns of ice cream that look like roses once assembled in your bowl. They let you choose a couple of toppings to go on top of your ice cream. Beautiful and tasty! I've tried the desserts before, but to be honest, they were kind of expensive and not that spectacular. The bubbles sometimes have an inconsistent texture, but still edible and yummy. I would probably only order drinks and rolled ice cream here, but definitely prefer the bubble teas here over Bubble Island. I recommend giving this place a try if you're ever in the area! read more

Sweeting has a great location, it's clean (especially compared to other hangouts on South U), there's a cute atmosphere inside with constant background "elevator" Asian pop music and wall decor. There's a decent amount of seating, free self serve water, and free wifi. Honestly, the only drawback for me is the food/drink quality to price ratio. The food (typical Chinese/Taiwanese appetizers and entrees) is honestly not bad, but way overpriced. Similarly, the bubble tea is alright (not the worst thing in the world but probably below average on the overall bubble tea scale), but ultimately just way too overpriced for the quality. That being said, it's still the best bubble tea you're going to get in Ann Arbor (definitely at least on campus), and so you'll take what you can get. Walking in, my white girlfriend was a little intimidated, as she was the only non-Asian person in the place and the menu at first glance, looked like it was in Mandarin. However, the workers were extremely friendly and very welcoming! I am from the San Francisco area, so I am used to some pretty pretty chic boba shops, so my standards for tea is pretty high. Sadly, nothing in Ann Arbor compares to some of my favorite spots back home, but I guess if I gave bubble island a 3-star, this place gets a 4 star review. The taro tea was just alright--it lacked the some of the richness that I have found in other taro boba teas. The rose boba tea was pretty good-- I think that it had real rose petals in it, which made the rose flavor very distinct. It was a bit too sweet though, as I had to drink it in two sittings. They have the best bubble tea in Ann Arbor that I've tried so far! However, I would never recommend for food. First try, I got pork katsu curry. It was drenched in a rather unpleasant brown gravy that had a bad aftertaste. Reading other reviews, I'm inclined to believe the curry was going bad when they served it to me. More recently, I ordered honey beef ribs. It smelled great, but it was almost all potatoes, with a few, large chunks of bone attached to small bits of meat. The food is pretty pricey, but they apparently cut corners to make their dishes more profitable. As a customer, I don't appreciate feeling duped like that. Still, worth stopping by for a drink (and ONLY a drink). read more

I'm generous with my ratings for bubble tea joints in MI since we have so few of them. Sweeting (formerly known as Sweetology which was formerly known as Momo) is a cute lil place with a surprisingly fun atmosphere where you can do some solo studying or hang out with a group of friends. I like that the drinks here can be customized in terms of sweetness levels and types of milk (they have almond and soy). Typical boba drinks are way too sugary and chemical tasting for me. When I was a student here I'd get flavored iced black, green, or oolong teas with double boba and it was perfect. I came back yesterday and had the watermelon (usually never get flavors like this) milk tea with almond milk, boba and fruit jelly and it was surprisingly refreshing and yummy. My cousin had the lavender milk tea with almond milk and it was true to taste but not very strong in the lavender department. Prices are ok. I would not recommend the dessert. Got a couple things here in the past and they were...off. Overall this is a good place to satisfy that boba craving. read more
