FYI, I'm basing this review only on one product... Food: had the matcha lady rolled ice cream. The whole thing was $7. Would definitely recommend with red bean, boba and condensed milk. The ice cream isn't as rich, creamy, and flavorful as usual. And they don't have a large variety of toppings (pictures show mochi bits but that wasn't even an option) Location: lots of seating and very cute. Located close to campus read more

Sweeting - Matcha lady with strawberry boba and condensed milk...very good combo - Desserts Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

This place is right by my office, so I often meet with students here to get out of the school building. I have been missing it something awful. However, if you do stop, by they are paying great attention to safety during COVID. So many great flavors; I love the Thai Iced Tea, the Rose, or the Sakura, while my partners like more of the fruit options. Bibles ways, of course. Folks are super nice there and they use flock cards, which is a good bonus if you go often. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Sweeting, and today was the first day I've been back. Since my last visit, the drinks have gotten better. I got a Taro Frostea and my boyfriend got a Coffee British Styled Milk Tea. Surprisingly, the Frostea wasn't icy like the last time I had it. It's more flavorful and more blended so it's not just pure ice. Also, my boyfriend thought his Coffee Milk Tea wasn't too watered down. However, I haven't tried their Matcha Milk tea in awhile so hopefully my next visit, the drink ill be delicious. Also, since the last time I've been back, the price of their Rolled Ice Cream has decreased by $1. Although it's more pricier than Chicago, this is definitely a steal since AA doesn't have any other Rolled Ice Cream shops. The reason why I still can't give Sweeting a 5 star is due to the price of their Hong Kong Style desserts. Although they are very delicious, they're really small for their cost. Their Mango and Sweet Balls is about $8. If they lowered the price, I will definitely be back more often. Everything has changed which is definitely something I'm very happy about. I'll definitely come back more for the bubble if the taste of the Frostea stays the same and the milk teas are less watered down. read more

I got the Mango mochi, one of the dessert (h8 replaced bananas), and honey dew milk bubbles. So I expected the mochi, from the picture, thought there was ice cream and mango. Fail. It's just cream and mango mochi. So i Was disappointed and the mochi itself was ok. Kinda plain. The dessert was good but a too sweet for me. Maybe it'll taste better if u don't mix everything together. I think it ruined it for me when I did that by it was way too sweet. The bubbles were good. I like that there's a dessert option here thAt isn't offered other places. read more

Sweeting (formally know as sweetology and momo tea) offers a variety of bubble tea flavors. If you're like me and like iced bubble tea there aren't very many flavors. I've been here at least ten times and every time the tea is different. I get the same thing every time. Some days it's good and some days it's just not as good. I can't say anything about the food because I haven't had it. Whenever we go in it doesn't seem like people are eating it. I have had one of the desserts, the banana Mochi and it was pretty good. The atmosphere and very nice and perfect to hang out with friends or to have a study session. Overall I really like this place and would recommend it. I just wish that they were more consistent with their bubble tea. read more

Asian desserts in Michigan? No way!!! Apparently the Asian population at the u of Michigan is 14.5% thus, the demographically appropriate venue of Hong Kong style desserts is a must visit. Getting a boba milk tea with red bean ice cream rolls after dinner is just what I needed. The order taker/cashier seemed miserable and unfriendly, like she'd been working there all day without a break! Her face was like you asked her to change a diaper. Spent almost $45 though. Good, but won't go back for the attitude. read more

Such a unique place for several reasons, but lacks some of the quality aspects. Price: Rolled ice cream is $6 and can only choose two toppings. For that price, I would allow people to include as many toppings as they want because the cup can only fit so many. Order strawberries as a topping, you'll get one maybe two chopped up. Interior: This is where the place is lacking. They try to be a hangout place, but the restaurant could use some work. Half the experience of getting rolled ice cream is watching it be made, but it's thrown in the corner with some clear glass so you can watch but they can only make one at a time in the small space. There's some old couches in here that people can sit on but have definitely seen their fair share of wear. Variety: They offer soups, rolled ice cream and DIY bubble tea which offers a little bit of something for everyone. read more

Good solid tea, a functional if slightly bare interior, and (the day I visited) fairly quiet customers. Works for me! I got a simple tea --- Classic milk tea, half sugar, with boba. The pearl tapioca was a bit uneven --- very soft on the outside, a little dry on the inside. I usually go for a nice, even-textured boba. The tea portion was fine; not too sweet (as requested) and a nice, normal tan color. I've had my fill of neon-green bubble tea. The wi-fi is free, the password hand-lettered in Sharpie on a piece of paper on the counter. Plenty of small hi-top tables to chat and sip, not a lot of relaxing spaces. Seems like a nice addition --- we'll see how things balance between the several boba places clustered on South U. read more

I'd like to think I'm a qualified evaluator of bubble tea. I didn't know that this bubble tea experience would also engage my pet-keeping skills. While rolling in my car with the homies, my vibe was metaphorically crapped on when my bubble tea was literally crapped on. Yes. April 23rd, 2018, rat deposits literally entered my mouth cavity through the straw of my sweeting's bubble tea. This place is simply doing the least amount of work possible. It took 32 stabs at the top of my bubble tea to finally penetrate a hole in the plastic. Invest. In. Quality. Straws. The place opened approximately 8 minutes late which not only threw my schedule off, but also put me in not one, not two, but three uncomfortable positions when I had to continue to walk up to the door and strain the door handle. All in all, a good visit. Update: turns out the rat deposits were lil sprigs of lavender but the feeling of disgust remains read more

Haven't tried food but ice cream and bubble were unsatisfactory. Taste and texture were just not there overall

I've never had such awful boba before. Both the tea and tapioca were awful. I am pretty spoiled by socal bubble tea so I may be a harsher critic than normal. If you actually think their boba is good I feel sorry for you. You have not experienced what boba should actually taste like. Sorry for your loss. read more

I love that Sweeting has Hong Kong style desserts! I love the mango sago pomelo dessert and the mango and sweet balls dessert! Their boba is just okay, but I personally like it better than Bubble Island. It's not as sweet and tastes less artificial than Bubble Island which is a big plus for me! 10/10 recommend their desserts though!! A bit overpriced but worth it to me! read more

Prior to coming here, I've only heard good things about this establishment. Although known to be the best bubble tea around campus, it did not live up to its reputation. The bubble tea was subpar and most importantly was served a half empty cup. read more

Taro taro taro! This is my third bubble tea place review for Ann Arbor! Yeesh. Using taro as my baseline, I was a little let down. The pearls were good and the drink was cold, but the taro flavor itself was a little watered down. This is my friend's favorite place, so I feel bad for the 3 stars, but I'd go again! I would just try something different. I plan to come back to Ann Arbor, so I will see you again, Sweeting! read more

I love the green color of the walls! I'm especially a fan of the graphics on the wall to the left when you walk in from the entrance. I've been here multiple times before for food, bubble tea, and even their new rolled ice cream! I usually get their black bean noodle which is pretty good, but just a little salty sometimes. I like their bubble tea also-- it's pretty cheap, but the bubbles are a little harder at the center sometimes. The rolled ice cream is a little pricy but definitely worth! :) read more

The bubble tea is really good here and there are a ton of options and flavors. We've tried some of their other snacks and desserts and it does remind me of the many dessert places that I've frequented in China. So if you are missing China then this is definitely a place to check out since most of the Chinese restaurants in Ann Arbor are pretty Americanized. read more

This is probably the only place to get decent bubble tea for miles, so we, students at the University of Michigan, really don't have a choice. It's conveniently located on the South campus, near the Ross department. They have the option of a classic milk tea or British milk tea for their bubble milk teas. The classic one tastes diluted, so go with the British one, which is thicker, just as other milk teas usually are. I have two go-to drinks: 1. British milk tea with boba, less ice 2. Wintermelon tea with basil seed Tips: 1. Go with British milk tea, you can add flavor as well 2. Don't get pudding, bcs their pudding is weird and mushy read more

Walking in, my white girlfriend was a little intimidated, as she was the only non-Asian person in the place and the menu at first glance, looked like it was in Mandarin. However, the workers were extremely friendly and very welcoming! I am from the San Francisco area, so I am used to some pretty pretty chic boba shops, so my standards for tea is pretty high. Sadly, nothing in Ann Arbor compares to some of my favorite spots back home, but I guess if I gave bubble island a 3-star, this place gets a 4 star review. The taro tea was just alright--it lacked the some of the richness that I have found in other taro boba teas. The rose boba tea was pretty good-- I think that it had real rose petals in it, which made the rose flavor very distinct. It was a bit too sweet though, as I had to drink it in two sittings. The Boba here is good-- not like bubble island where it is all mushy and congealed like it has been sitting around all day. Some of the desserts looked tasty! I will be back read more

Nice staff, rolled ice cream yummy and bubble tea. A little pricey but this is Ann Arbor and it's a specialty spot...

After not coming for awhile me and a few friends decided to meet up and grab a drink here. I was expecting a lot more from this place especially after new management. I got the British green milk tea with black bubbles and soy milk. They charge extra for a substitute for other milk that they use which I think is a little bit of an inconvenience for those who can't drink milk like myself but this isn't too much of an issue for me. They tea cake out extremely watery and I was very disappointed. I couldn't even taste the green tea! The atmosphere is very cute and it's a fun place to hang out with friends. I noticed they added lots of new things to the menu including rolled ice cream so I'd be willing to come again and try some more stuff. But overall I feel like the tea was average for what I paid for it :/ read more

Very accommodating of my super customized requests. Taro FrosTea: Soy Milk, 25% sugar, Boba. Great time. Favorite boba spot so far in Michigan. Forget other stores, come to this one. I'll definitely be back to try all the HK desserts. This is a cultural gem in the AA. Why you should listen to me: I'm Taiwanese so I know Boba. I've tried Boba all over the country and this one is best so far since I moved to Michigan. read more

Everything looks good at first... But the bubble tea is like dishwater. The boba is too chewy, then mush. The rolled ice cream is pretty, but the flavor is lacking and not creamy flavored. But it's cool to watch them flatten the ice cream like a pancake. read more

I was here a few years ago and got the milk tea with boba and I really liked it. I came back the other day and unfortunately was not impressed. The atmosphere itself feels run down and the drinks we got weren't good. I got a mango green tea with sago. The green tea with mango was okay but the sago was very odd. The texture wasn't what I am used to. My husband had a milk tea and it wasn't sweet at all. Since CoCo Fresh opened we have been there several time and we just like that a lot better. read more

I popped in for a quick bubble tea, but was extremely disappointed with the result. I was introduced to bubble tea in Taipei nearly two decades ago, I and grew up in SoCal where good bubble tea is prevalent. All I wanted was a basic milk tea with boba. Even ordering that was a challenge: the menu is extensive and the distinction between "British style" and "Original" was not adequately explained by the server. I opted for Original. It was extremely watery and bland. The flavor was also not what I was expecting--akin to weak breakfast tea mixed with skim milk. The boba was soft and relatively flavorless. More troublingly, there was very little boba in my medium tea and I ran out about halfway through the drink. I'm giving them two stars since I liked the atmosphere and I hesitate to base a one-star review on a single item during a single visit. But I will not be coming back here to get my boba fix in the future. read more

Honestly, I think this might be the best boba place I've been to in Michigan! There's plenty of options and they also sell Thai rolled ice cream, Hong Kong desserts, & other food! I also really the environment. It's very relaxed! The boba was amazing in my opinion & definitely prefer it to Bubble Island across the street! read more

This has been my favorite spot for bubble tea in AA over the past several years! It's a good study and hang out spot. My go to beverage is the British milk tea with half sugar and bubbles. The British milk tea is made with non-dairy creamer, perfect if you have lactose intolerance. I like that the drinks are customizable - you can order the level of sugar you want in your beverage, and they do pay attention to your order when you say 'warm' versus 'hot' when ordering your drink. I also like their taro milk tea and iced, non milk-based teas with grass jelly added. In the corner of the shop, they have an ice cream rolling station. I totally recommend trying this! I've tried the matcha flavor. They smear ice cream on to a cold stone into thin sheets and then carefully rolled into delicate columns of ice cream that look like roses once assembled in your bowl. They let you choose a couple of toppings to go on top of your ice cream. Beautiful and tasty! I've tried the desserts before, but to be honest, they were kind of expensive and not that spectacular. The bubbles sometimes have an inconsistent texture, but still edible and yummy. I would probably only order drinks and rolled ice cream here, but definitely prefer the bubble teas here over Bubble Island. I recommend giving this place a try if you're ever in the area! read more

Sweeting has a great location, it's clean (especially compared to other hangouts on South U), there's a cute atmosphere inside with constant background "elevator" Asian pop music and wall decor. There's a decent amount of seating, free self serve water, and free wifi. Honestly, the only drawback for me is the food/drink quality to price ratio. The food (typical Chinese/Taiwanese appetizers and entrees) is honestly not bad, but way overpriced. Similarly, the bubble tea is alright (not the worst thing in the world but probably below average on the overall bubble tea scale), but ultimately just way too overpriced for the quality. That being said, it's still the best bubble tea you're going to get in Ann Arbor (definitely at least on campus), and so you'll take what you can get. If you're in Ann Arbor craving your bubble tea fix or looking for a cute place to hangout with some underage friends, Sweeting is the place for you. read more

Sweetings recently started offering food alongside their bubble tea and rolled ice cream. While the bubble tea and ice cream are quite good, the food is mediocre. The ramen I got was not well seasoned and the noodles were bloated. You can tell that the food was added later on the menu because it takes a lot longer to prepare and the quality is not that good. I would not recommend the food at all. read more

This time I had the pork katsu curry. It was basically identical to the chicken version, with good crunch, a complex curry, and plenty of rice. The chicken had more flavor than the pork, surprisingly. Service was fine, but I am reminded that this is not a good place for a quick meal. I was in line behind 4 people and ended up waiting 15 minutes to place my order. They're understaffed; one person was trying to make drinks and take orders simultaneously. Then I waited 20 minutes for the food. The food here is good -- I stand by my initial rating of high 4 stars -- but the experience overall is middling. read more

Sweeting (formerly Sweetology), in my opinion, has the best boba in town. They have a large selection of flavors, as well as other types of desserts that I have not tried yet. My favorite is the mango milk tea. Unlike Bubble Island, they make their tea fresh and customize the amount of sugar to your liking. Staff is friendly and attentive. They also make it a nice place to hang out and study, with plenty of seating and free wi-fi. read more

They have the best bubble tea in Ann Arbor that I've tried so far! However, I would never recommend for food. First try, I got pork katsu curry. It was drenched in a rather unpleasant brown gravy that had a bad aftertaste. Reading other reviews, I'm inclined to believe the curry was going bad when they served it to me. More recently, I ordered honey beef ribs. It smelled great, but it was almost all potatoes, with a few, large chunks of bone attached to small bits of meat. The food is pretty pricey, but they apparently cut corners to make their dishes more profitable. As a customer, I don't appreciate feeling duped like that. Still, worth stopping by for a drink (and ONLY a drink). read more

I'm generous with my ratings for bubble tea joints in MI since we have so few of them. Sweeting (formerly known as Sweetology which was formerly known as Momo) is a cute lil place with a surprisingly fun atmosphere where you can do some solo studying or hang out with a group of friends. I like that the drinks here can be customized in terms of sweetness levels and types of milk (they have almond and soy). Typical boba drinks are way too sugary and chemical tasting for me. When I was a student here I'd get flavored iced black, green, or oolong teas with double boba and it was perfect. I came back yesterday and had the watermelon (usually never get flavors like this) milk tea with almond milk, boba and fruit jelly and it was surprisingly refreshing and yummy. My cousin had the lavender milk tea with almond milk and it was true to taste but not very strong in the lavender department. Prices are ok. I would not recommend the dessert. Got a couple things here in the past and they were...off. Overall this is a good place to satisfy that boba craving. read more

Used to be Sweetology, now called Sweeting lol. The desserts are a little off the wall, but look interesting. Haven't tried any yet bc the prices are a little steep for me to just experiment with rice and durian, if ya know what I mean. I love that they have pudding available to put in your milk tea instead of tapioca balls - that's my Fave! Also, you can customize your drink to have 3/4 or half as much sugar if you want, woohoo! read more

I'm here frequently - I always order the strawberry smoothie with strawberry popping boba and the honey chicken.

It's one of the best bubble tea places in Ann Arbor in my opinion. The employees were nice, and since it was my first time trying Sweeting, the cashier recommended a drink to me, which tasted so good. I was surprised I liked it so much because everyone has different taste. Reasonable prices. The store itself felt cozy. Overall, this will be my 2nd go to place for bubble tea. read more
