Plato de Chile Relleno (vegetarian)
Adriana F.

Stopped with my friends for a small bite during the Wheaton Cocoa Crawl and we loved it. I am so jazzed that we have a Sweetchilango in Wheaton for excellent Mexican food. Not your typical "Mexican" restaurant. It is unique, casual, whimsical, and clean. Fantastic service, even when ordering from the kiosk. We shared a Plato: Rice, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, tortilla, and our choice of guisado was chile relleno - Egg battered stuffed poblano pepper with cheese, tomato salsa, and sour cream. Very tasty and fresh. I will be back for a full meal and an adult beverage. Thank you Bien Trucha Group for choosing our town. I have been going to your restaurants since you opened on Geneva around 2008 and never disappoint

Very tasty! I had the birria plate. You order via a screen here, then they bring the food to your table. I liked the relaxed decor. I don't drink alcohol, but I noticed they have a bar.

It's not your typical guacamole and Crunchy chips.

Great food, quick service and super friendly staff! Our kids recommended it and they are spot on with all of the above. Traditional recipes with a notch above. Manager was above and beyond attentive. Congratulated us for our new grand baby and celebrated with free dessert. We will always visit when visiting Wheaton. Our kids are fans so they will be regulars along with their new baby. Thank you for such a welcoming experience.

Enchiladas de Birria

The food tasted very authentic. It's not as cheap as a hole in the wall place, but I feel like the quality and flavor profile justify the price. I got the enchiladas and they were delicious. The service was so friendly and you can tell they are passionate about the food. Cute ambiance as well.

Frozen burritos to go

Great food, maybe on the pricey side because everything is extra. If you've been to one of there other restaurants (Quiubo, Bien Trucha or A Toda Madre) it's a similar deal.. you'll pay extra for a salsa. That being said, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Fast casual, so you order your food from a screen (there are people there to help you through that) grab a number and claim a table... They'll bring the food out. I'm not paying for chips and salsa, so we had chips and guacamole. It was very good, The guacamole was a little chunky, little spicy and very delicious. We both had the Taco De Birria (beef) and the Taco De Cochinita Pibil (pork). They were both excellent. I also had the Taco De Albondigas (meatballs) and it was very good. I ordered two packages of burritos, one Barbacoa and one Carnitas to go (they have them frozen) but I haven't tried them yet. We will go back for sure, I want to try other things on the menu. Some vegetarian selections available. Small bar service: sangria, margaritas, cerveza, etc

The food and the drink. I ordered the tamarind - drink with alcohol on it. (I forgot what its called)

We ordered the birria plato and it's so good! Their soft tacos that goes with the plato we ordered was real soft and tasty and I should say that probably we need more soft tacos to go with the plato order. Ambience wise, it's not bad I should say. It's casual. And order your own. Their sauce in the table is good too. It complements the dish. Its a little spicy but manageable. With the drinks, it was not bad at all.

Absolutely delicious! My family went to Sweetchilango for dinner and was not disappointed! My husband and I both got enchiladas and they were delicious, and a bit spicy. The restaurant is very clean, modern, and beautiful. Not to mention the phenomenal service! We will be back!

Kids bean taco no cheese

A great choice for fast casual Mexican food, but a little on the pricier side! The staff was amazing and very hospitable. Food portion sizes were decent with a solid vegetarian option and creating, unique meat options but lacking a solid vegan option. I enjoyed a taco from the kids menu, which was just rice and beans, but requested no cheese. Simple but surprisingly very tasty and large. It was about $7 for one taco, so not cheap. Ingredients were very fresh, and the food came out hot!

The food and ambience were wonderful. This is a nice little spot in downtown Wheaton, and I would happily visit here again and again.

The space is open, welcoming, and has a fun atmosphere that's perfect for watching sports or spending a night out with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive. It got quite busy once the game started, but the waitress continued to provide good service. I ordered the torta and elote, and both were excellent. The meat in the torta was good quality with great flavor, and the elote was delicious. The restaurant offers daily specials. Tortas were half off the day we went. They also offer fun events like trivia, which adds to the overall experience. With a nice bar, good food, and a lively atmosphere, Hale Street Cantina is a great spot to meet up with friends, watch a game, or enjoy a night out in downtown Wheaton.

It's quite a typical Tex-Mex place. We started with Guacamole and Chips. Then we ordered Gringo Taco and Birria Ramen. The taco came with rice and bean, it's flavorful as expected. The Birria Ramen is some new that I have never tried. Think of it as braised beef with noodles. The dish is flavorful, and I wonder instead of ramen (wheat based) noodle, it could be even better rice noodles because the beef and the broth is quite flavorful. A good spot to hang out, and watch a game or two.

Fun…read moreLatin decor with a clean minimalist approach that keeps the energy lively without overwhelming you. Great date spot, great group spot. We went full tapas mode and shared everything across the table, which is absolutely the right way to do this. The trio of salsas was a strong opener. The smoky Al Morita was the clear winner for me, though all three brought something distinct to the table. The Patatas Bravas were well seasoned and the sunny side egg on top added a richness that elevated the whole dish. Wanted a little more crisp on the potatoes but honestly a minor note on an otherwise solid plate. Tacos were a mixed bag. The Al Carnitas fell flat, the pork belly felt underseasoned and the lime overpowered everything else. The Al Fundido though was a genuine standout. Perfectly cooked butterfly shrimp, pickled onions, melty cheese. Every component earning its place on the tortilla. The Al Chulo got solid marks from the table but could use something bright to cut through the richness. The Chicken Empanadas were a highlight of the night. Shatteringly crispy, loaded with flavor, and the slaw alongside them was exactly the right call. The Al Mango Salad was fresh and balanced but leaned sweet and desperately wanted a crunchy element and maybe a little heat to round it out. Dessert delivered a split decision. The Al Platanito Frito was the surprise of the evening. Sweet, sour, bright, crunchy. A perfect final bite. The churros were perfectly fine and nothing more. Service was attentive and our server steered us well with recommendations. One heads up: this is not a casual weeknight cheap eat. It is tapas priced for the experience, so come hungry, come with a group, and come ready to spend. Worth it. The Plainfield location is next on our list and we cannot wait.
