Came here with some family to meet up before checking out a speakeasy in the area and it was a fantastic start to the night. I've seen a lot of griping from people that they had hoped this spot was more in line with the other restaurants under the Bien Trucha banner but I feel like they did a decent job of setting expectations while letting people know this was going to be a different experience so I wasn't thrown by the new concept. I enjoyed the feel of the place and the ambiance. Felt like a chill bar spot I would have no problem hanging out in while in Wheaton with the added bonus of delicious, affordable Mexican fare that doesn't sacrifice quality. I ordered some tasty shrimp tacos with great seasoning and handmade tortillas. They were topped with what was definitely the best guacamole I've tasted from a fast casual spot. Others at the table tried several different types of tacos as well as enchiladas and everything looked really appetizing. We also sampled a number of their draft cocktails which all tasted wonderful. Sweetchilango can definitely hit the spot if you're looking for an elevated fast casual expierence. read more

My fiance and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. This restaurant is a recent addition to the Bien Trucha group, but of all the locations I have eaten at (Bien Trucha, Santo Cielo and Quiubo; have not been to Lil Donkey or A Toda Madre) this was the weakest one. Why? - We both thought the corn tortillas were too thick and flabby. These tacos are somewhat bigger than you get at other places, so the support structure needs to be there, but I have seen other places get around this with two thinner tortillas instead. These also barely seemed to have touched a comal: they weren't blistered and still had a doughy quality. - The thick tortillas translated into thick tortilla chips, and neither of us liked the salsa Verde. My fiance liked the house sauce that is in a bottle on the table better. - He got two tacos and a side of esquites (street corn), I got three tacos. We both thought the chicken (in his chicken tinga taco and my pollo pipian taco) tasted gamy. He liked the one better with steak and potato (picadillo), and the esquites was good. I liked the flavor of the rajas con crema quite a bit, with poblano pepper, cheese curds and corn, but it was rather messy to eat. Likewise, my birria taco was very flavorful but just poured grease out of the end...yuck. - For two of us for dinner with no drinks (both got tap water) it was right at $50 (48 and change). That is a LOT for tacos, especially considering that some weren't very good (looking at that chicken here). - A note on accessibility: I was encouraged because there's a ramp going up into the restaurant, but there are only a few regular tables: most are high tops. I wish this trend in restaurants would go away! Everyone can use a regular table; not everyone can use a high top. One accessible thing is that you can either order at the counter, or order from a QR code menu and they'll bring it to your table. So overall, Sweetchilango is only getting a middling grade from me. There are so many other good taco shops in this area that I don't need to break the bank coming here. I'd say it's an optional choice if you're looking for something different, but the inconsistency of the quality of the dishes we had make trying something new a challenge. read more

Tried Sweetchilango last night - was able to enjoy sitting outside on the sidewalk. A little bit about the ordering process. It's cashless and you place your orders inside at a kiosk. Usually I hate these kiosks, but the ordering process showed pictures of each item and easily allowed you to see what you were going to get. We started with a side of spicy salsa, and the salsa was a delicious green concoction that had a great amount of spice. For entrees, we got the enchiladas - one was alambre and one was the spicy shrimp. We enjoyed both dishes - to me - it was more black beans than other meats, however. So - ensure you like black beans - or get it w/o. Drink-wise - a can of diet coke was $3.50 - which is nuts. I definitely recommend you stick with water. Inside - has plenty of seats and even a bar but we stuck with the outside. Yes - I would go again (good food and friendly service). read more

Stopped with my friends for a small bite during the Wheaton Cocoa Crawl and we loved it. I am so jazzed that we have a Sweetchilango in Wheaton for excellent Mexican food. Not your typical "Mexican" restaurant. It is unique, casual, whimsical, and clean. Fantastic service, even when ordering from the kiosk. We shared a Plato: Rice, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, tortilla, and our choice of guisado was chile relleno - Egg battered stuffed poblano pepper with cheese, tomato salsa, and sour cream. Love Sweetchilango. They grew on me... initially I was crushed that Yia Mas was replaced by them, but their birria tacos and chips and guacamole quickly became a go-to when in town. The service is good & and the ambiance and music is quite good. An elevated fast casual experience in DT Wheaton. read more

When you arrive you can either eat there or quickly place an order to go. There was an employee there to help make recommendations which I appreciated. They have a touch screen ordering system. They had a good taco deal - two tacos and a side for $15. I had the shredded pork taco and shredded chicken. They were both delicious. I want to come back and try some of the other tacos. I also liked the mashed potatoes and corn sides. I had a sample of both the hibiscus and horchata drinks. They were both good! These drinks aren't something I typically order so I can't compare them to others. They also have a few frozen options you can purchase to go (lb of meat or 2 pack of burritos). Sweetchilango delivers some solid Mexican food with a smile! Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere. Being a new spot in town we were eager to check it out. Stopping in for an early lunch we were greeted by a friendly hostess and an order kiosk. While it isn't the most inviting introduction I can understand that it's the way the world is going. Normally I'm all for a kiosk, an example being another Mexican fine dining establishment (Taco Bell), as it gives one access to the true entire menu. But here, it seemed that we had several questions and then, even with help, couldn't get the order exactly as we liked. Nonetheless, we had a tasty meal! We both had tacos and enjoyed them. If you've been to one of there other restaurants (Quiubo, Bien Trucha or A Toda Madre) it's a similar deal.. you'll pay extra for a salsa. That being said, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Fast casual, so you order your food from a screen (there are people there to help you through that) grab a number and claim a table... They'll bring the food out. I'm not paying for chips and salsa, so we had chips and guacamole. It was very good, The guacamole was a little chunky, little spicy and very delicious. We both had the Taco De Birria (beef) and the Taco De Cochinita Pibil (pork). They were both excellent. I also had the Taco De Albondigas (meatballs) and it was very good. I ordered two packages of burritos, one Barbacoa and one Carnitas to go (they have them frozen) but I haven't tried them yet. We will go back for sure, I want to try other things on the menu. Pros: certain items are really good. Birria plato and the sweet corn churro ice cream sandwich being two of them. Like another review said, the chicken tastes gamey or old. Something is off. Like a lot of people are saying, the prices are high. For a family of four no drinks no appetizers just 4 plates and 2 ice cream sandwiches it was just north of $85 plus tip. That's pretty high. I had been here when it was the blink and you'll miss it Greek restaurant and a lot of the decor is just carried over from that endeavor. Our real complaint was the music was just so loud. Their soft tacos that goes with the plato we ordered was real soft and tasty and I should say that probably we need more soft tacos to go with the plato order. The service is also remarkable - today I chose takeout but ended up sitting outside for a bit to enjoy the fresh air. I was very excited for this place to open because its sister restaurants are so amazing. This restaurant however is just a let down if you've eaten at the other restaurants. It's fast casual so you order on an ipad and they bring the food to you. The menu is kind of odd for a mexican restaurant, ex meatballs were on the menu when it opened, not sure if they still are. We asked what the worker recommended and ordered the Birria which she said was the most popular. It was not flavorful and also not served traditionally, the rice was in the taco and it did not come with consume as most birria tacos do. They have a bar inside which looked nice but not really what you would go here for. I think the prices also being about the same as Bien Trucha or A Toda Madre makes it even more disappointing because it doesn't compare to how good those places are. A great choice for fast casual Mexican food, but a little on the pricier side! The staff was amazing and very hospitable. Food portion sizes were decent with a solid vegetarian option and creating, unique meat options but lacking a solid vegan option. I enjoyed a taco from the kids menu, which was just rice and beans, but requested no cheese. Simple but surprisingly very tasty and large. It was about $7 for one taco, so not cheap. Tacos were amazing! Had the shrimp tacos and 2 versions of steak tacos. Each taco was perfectly seasoned and didn't need sauce. The soft corn tacos are tasty and hold the overflowing protein well. The food was great! The service from the bar was just okay...we paid 14.99 for a margarita that was on the menu advertised for 18 oz. However, it tasted great but didn't seem to be 18 oz. actually, it was more like 8 ounces. You have to order your food at a kiosk and then it is delivered to your table. Unfortunately, the chairs are very uncomfortable , and you have to clean up after yourself. This is a great place to order food to carry out... for the price of a margarita 14.99 you can buy a whole bottle on the way home and have a good evening! read more
