Came here with some family to meet up before checking out a speakeasy in the area and it was a fantastic start to the night. I've seen a lot of griping from people that they had hoped this spot was more in line with the other restaurants under the Bien Trucha banner but I feel like they did a decent job of setting expectations while letting people know this was going to be a different experience so I wasn't thrown by the new concept. I enjoyed the feel of the place and the ambiance. Felt like a chill bar spot I would have no problem hanging out in while in Wheaton with the added bonus of delicious, affordable Mexican fare that doesn't sacrifice quality. I ordered some tasty shrimp tacos with great seasoning and handmade tortillas. They were topped with what was definitely the best guacamole I've tasted from a fast casual spot. Others at the table tried several different types of tacos as well as enchiladas and everything looked really appetizing. We also sampled a number of their draft cocktails which all tasted wonderful. Sweetchilango can definitely hit the spot if you're looking for an elevated fast casual expierence. read more

My fiance and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. This restaurant is a recent addition to the Bien Trucha group, but of all the locations I have eaten at (Bien Trucha, Santo Cielo and Quiubo; have not been to Lil Donkey or A Toda Madre) this was the weakest one. Why? - We both thought the corn tortillas were too thick and flabby. These tacos are somewhat bigger than you get at other places, so the support structure needs to be there, but I have seen other places get around this with two thinner tortillas instead. These also barely seemed to have touched a comal: they weren't blistered and still had a doughy quality. - The thick tortillas translated into thick tortilla chips, and neither of us liked the salsa Verde. My fiance liked the house sauce that is in a bottle on the table better. - He got two tacos and a side of esquites (street corn), I got three tacos. We both thought the chicken (in his chicken tinga taco and my pollo pipian taco) tasted gamy. He liked the one better with steak and potato (picadillo), and the esquites was good. I liked the flavor of the rajas con crema quite a bit, with poblano pepper, cheese curds and corn, but it was rather messy to eat. Likewise, my birria taco was very flavorful but just poured grease out of the end...yuck. - For two of us for dinner with no drinks (both got tap water) it was right at $50 (48 and change). That is a LOT for tacos, especially considering that some weren't very good (looking at that chicken here). - A note on accessibility: I was encouraged because there's a ramp going up into the restaurant, but there are only a few regular tables: most are high tops. I wish this trend in restaurants would go away! Everyone can use a regular table; not everyone can use a high top. One accessible thing is that you can either order at the counter, or order from a QR code menu and they'll bring it to your table. So overall, Sweetchilango is only getting a middling grade from me. There are so many other good taco shops in this area that I don't need to break the bank coming here. I'd say it's an optional choice if you're looking for something different, but the inconsistency of the quality of the dishes we had make trying something new a challenge. read more

Tried Sweetchilango last night - was able to enjoy sitting outside on the sidewalk. A little bit about the ordering process. It's cashless and you place your orders inside at a kiosk. Usually I hate these kiosks, but the ordering process showed pictures of each item and easily allowed you to see what you were going to get. We started with a side of spicy salsa, and the salsa was a delicious green concoction that had a great amount of spice. For entrees, we got the enchiladas - one was alambre and one was the spicy shrimp. We enjoyed both dishes - to me - it was more black beans than other meats, however. So - ensure you like black beans - or get it w/o. Drink-wise - a can of diet coke was $3.50 - which is nuts. I definitely recommend you stick with water. Inside - has plenty of seats and even a bar but we stuck with the outside. Yes - I would go again (good food and friendly service). read more

Stopped with my friends for a small bite during the Wheaton Cocoa Crawl and we loved it. I am so jazzed that we have a Sweetchilango in Wheaton for excellent Mexican food. Not your typical "Mexican" restaurant. It is unique, casual, whimsical, and clean. Fantastic service, even when ordering from the kiosk. We shared a Plato: Rice, black beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, tortilla, and our choice of guisado was chile relleno - Egg battered stuffed poblano pepper with cheese, tomato salsa, and sour cream. Very tasty and fresh. I will be back for a full meal and an adult beverage. Thank you Bien Trucha Group for choosing our town. I have been going to your restaurants since you opened on Geneva around 2008 and never disappoint read more

Love Sweetchilango. They grew on me... initially I was crushed that Yia Mas was replaced by them, but their birria tacos and chips and guacamole quickly became a go-to when in town. The service is good & and the ambiance and music is quite good. An elevated fast casual experience in DT Wheaton. read more

Very tasty! I had the birria plate. You order via a screen here, then they bring the food to your table. I liked the relaxed decor. I don't drink alcohol, but I noticed they have a bar. read more

When you arrive you can either eat there or quickly place an order to go. There was an employee there to help make recommendations which I appreciated. They have a touch screen ordering system. They had a good taco deal - two tacos and a side for $15. I had the shredded pork taco and shredded chicken. They were both delicious. I want to come back and try some of the other tacos. I also liked the mashed potatoes and corn sides. I had a sample of both the hibiscus and horchata drinks. They were both good! These drinks aren't something I typically order so I can't compare them to others. They also have a few frozen options you can purchase to go (lb of meat or 2 pack of burritos). I had the carnitas burritos. They were good but I didn't love them. read more

Sweetchilango delivers some solid Mexican food with a smile! Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere. Being a new spot in town we were eager to check it out. Stopping in for an early lunch we were greeted by a friendly hostess and an order kiosk. While it isn't the most inviting introduction I can understand that it's the way the world is going. Normally I'm all for a kiosk, an example being another Mexican fine dining establishment (Taco Bell), as it gives one access to the true entire menu. But here, it seemed that we had several questions and then, even with help, couldn't get the order exactly as we liked. Nonetheless, we had a tasty meal! We both had tacos and enjoyed them. The sauce on the table, I forget its name, was a wonderful addition! Given the food taste and the friendly staff, not to mention the prime location, we'll be back! read more

Great food, quick service and super friendly staff! Our kids recommended it and they are spot on with all of the above. Traditional recipes with a notch above. Manager was above and beyond attentive. Congratulated us for our new grand baby and celebrated with free dessert. We will always visit when visiting Wheaton. Our kids are fans so they will be regulars along with their new baby. Thank you for such a welcoming experience. read more

The food tasted very authentic. It's not as cheap as a hole in the wall place, but I feel like the quality and flavor profile justify the price. I got the enchiladas and they were delicious. The service was so friendly and you can tell they are passionate about the food. Cute ambiance as well. read more

Incredibly overpriced. $15 for enchiladas. They are tortillas folded over with the ingredients on top. Nothing in the middle. Normally enchiladas are rolled tortillas with ingredients in the middle. I dont get the good reviews. I may try again to catch what I missed. read more

Cochinits bibil (pork) Pipian (chicken) Albondigas (meatball) Horchata Fruit drink Churro ice cream sandwiches (normal & eggnog flavor) Platos come with red rice, black beans, tortilla, guacamole, Pico de gallo and other things like pumpkin seeds based on what you order. The rice and beans are incredibly flavorful and the homemade tortilla was great. For me, the meatballs were the star meat here but everything was good. Drinks are refreshing and not overly sweet. The churros ice cream combination was great - the eggnog was surprisingly good. $77 all in. Will be back. read more

Great food, maybe on the pricey side because everything is extra. If you've been to one of there other restaurants (Quiubo, Bien Trucha or A Toda Madre) it's a similar deal.. you'll pay extra for a salsa. That being said, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Fast casual, so you order your food from a screen (there are people there to help you through that) grab a number and claim a table... They'll bring the food out. I'm not paying for chips and salsa, so we had chips and guacamole. It was very good, The guacamole was a little chunky, little spicy and very delicious. We both had the Taco De Birria (beef) and the Taco De Cochinita Pibil (pork). They were both excellent. I also had the Taco De Albondigas (meatballs) and it was very good. I ordered two packages of burritos, one Barbacoa and one Carnitas to go (they have them frozen) but I haven't tried them yet. We will go back for sure, I want to try other things on the menu. Some vegetarian selections available. Small bar service: sangria, margaritas, cerveza, etc read more

My family loves Sweet Chilango. The food and service are both top tier. The ONLY gripe I have is with their tortilla chips - the sauces and salsas are so excellent - I wish the chips weren't so bland and super hard. Aces everywhere else! Can't wait to go back. read more

We ordered the birria plato and it's so good! Their soft tacos that goes with the plato we ordered was real soft and tasty and I should say that probably we need more soft tacos to go with the plato order. Ambience wise, it's not bad I should say. It's casual. And order your own. Their sauce in the table is good too. It complements the dish. Its a little spicy but manageable. With the drinks, it was not bad at all. read more

Pros: certain items are really good. Birria plato and the sweet corn churro ice cream sandwich being two of them. Like another review said, the chicken tastes gamey or old. Something is off. Like a lot of people are saying, the prices are high. For a family of four no drinks no appetizers just 4 plates and 2 ice cream sandwiches it was just north of $85 plus tip. That's pretty high. I had been here when it was the blink and you'll miss it Greek restaurant and a lot of the decor is just carried over from that endeavor. Our real complaint was the music was just so loud. There's speakers everywhere. For my family it was incredibly unpleasant. For that reason we will not return. read more

This is fast food tacos, but way better than like a Taco Bell. They were good, prices were good too.

Absolutely delicious! My family went to Sweetchilango for dinner and was not disappointed! My husband and I both got enchiladas and they were delicious, and a bit spicy. The restaurant is very clean, modern, and beautiful. Not to mention the phenomenal service! We will be back! read more

I came in to eat with two friends on a recent Sunday and I met the manager/owner. He was wonderful to us and the food and service were splendid. I came back ten days later and again loved it. The wait staff were super friendly and the food truly delicious. I will recommend and come back again soon. Highly recommended. This is not "same old, same old" American Mexican food. The tacos are great. read more

Ive ordered in and take-out now several times and it always hits the spot. The tacos are incredible, taste fresh, and come in a variety of choices. The service is also remarkable - today I chose takeout but ended up sitting outside for a bit to enjoy the fresh air. Within minutes an employee was outside checking on me, opened my drink, and offered to bring me water. Incredible level of service that made my day. I'll continue coming here :) read more

I was very excited for this place to open because its sister restaurants are so amazing. This restaurant however is just a let down if you've eaten at the other restaurants. It's fast casual so you order on an ipad and they bring the food to you. The menu is kind of odd for a mexican restaurant, ex meatballs were on the menu when it opened, not sure if they still are. We asked what the worker recommended and ordered the Birria which she said was the most popular. It was not flavorful and also not served traditionally, the rice was in the taco and it did not come with consume as most birria tacos do. They have a bar inside which looked nice but not really what you would go here for. I think the prices also being about the same as Bien Trucha or A Toda Madre makes it even more disappointing because it doesn't compare to how good those places are. It may be off to a rough start as they opened not too long ago but in my opinion just go over to glen ellyn and have A Toda Madre. read more

A great choice for fast casual Mexican food, but a little on the pricier side! The staff was amazing and very hospitable. Food portion sizes were decent with a solid vegetarian option and creating, unique meat options but lacking a solid vegan option. I enjoyed a taco from the kids menu, which was just rice and beans, but requested no cheese. Simple but surprisingly very tasty and large. It was about $7 for one taco, so not cheap. Ingredients were very fresh, and the food came out hot! read more

Enjoyed the most delicious shredded chicken taco over lunch . Can't wait to go back . I already told a dozen friends and family they have to check it out . Menu layout is very different from other places so it takes a few minutes to absorb . Essentially each main ingredient ( chicken , beef etc) can be prepared as a taco , enchilada or chilaquiles. You order at a kiosk , sit down and they bring your food. Tons of seating as there is a second dining room behind the bar . read more

What is there to say? Bien Trucha group does it again. The food is fast but executed to a high level. Atmosphere is great, drinks are great, the tortillas are house made and to die for. Our kids loved the rice and bean tacos. I don't think you can go wrong here. The service is also great. They are attentive even though it's more fast casual. read more

Tacos were amazing! Had the shrimp tacos and 2 versions of steak tacos. Each taco was perfectly seasoned and didn't need sauce. The soft corn tacos are tasty and hold the overflowing protein well. Delicious every time! All of their options are fresh and unique and offered in a variety of ways.

The food was great! The service from the bar was just okay...we paid 14.99 for a margarita that was on the menu advertised for 18 oz. However, it tasted great but didn't seem to be 18 oz. actually, it was more like 8 ounces. You have to order your food at a kiosk and then it is delivered to your table. Unfortunately, the chairs are very uncomfortable , and you have to clean up after yourself. This is a great place to order food to carry out... for the price of a margarita 14.99 you can buy a whole bottle on the way home and have a good evening! read more

Great service and food. Had lunch and was pleasantly impressed. The menu does take a bit to learn but all worked out.

Thought the food was delicious - fresh, great flavors, good portions. Staff was extremely friendly. Not a family friendly menu. Prices seem high for the amount of food one gets. Bar menu is limited and prices are expensive. Drinks for kids soda or water, juice or lemonade would have been nice.
