Cookies & cream and cinnamon roll cupcakes...Yummy!
    M P.

***UPDATE**** I still really like the cupcakes here. The cookies & cream is a favorite as well as pina colada (perfect pineapple coconut cake) and carrot cake (yummy maple frosting). The cupcakes here are always fresh, moist and tasty. Service is fast and the owner is very pleasant. She provides great customer service while running the truck. I would definitely recommend stopping by if the truck is in your area.

    Peanut Butter chocolate cupcake! Yum!

Farragut Food Truck Friday!! WHOOOO!! I'm a cake fiend. I admit it. So when cupcakes were starting their trend down here, I was in heaven. Admittedly, I've only tried three cupcake places in the area, Curbside Cupcakes, Hello Cupcake!, and now Sweetbites. I'm a fiend, but I can't go chasing down *every* cupcake place in town and expect to have a job! :) Today I treated myself to a cupcake for dessert, and got the chocolate peanut butter. I was pleasantly surprised. Usually peanut butter icings are WAY too thick and WAY too rich for me to swallow, but the peanut butter icing on this was light, and not rich at all, with a general taste of peanut butter that doesn't overwhelm you. For those that say the cupcakes were too dry, I hope you come back, because this one was deliciously moist almost all the way through. I found some dry areas, but honestly, it's going to happen in a cupcake. If it was 50% dry I would be upset, but 98% of it was completely moist, so I was really happy with it! The lady serving them was incredibly nice as well. When I get my waistline down to a reasonable width, I'll be back for more, but now I must head to my treadmill and walk off my dessert!

Holy moly! *Pros: -Pink food truck! -Friendly customer service! -Moist, moist moist cupcake! At first bite, I wondered if the cake was made with cornbread mix! Who knows, but this cake is right on! -Frosting melts in your mouth. Literally. It's that delicious. -This is the first cupcake I've had in the DMV that was equally good in cake and frosting. Usually, one or the other is better, but that is not the case here. The cake and frosting are equally good on their own, and then just meld together to create a small piece of perfection. *Cons: -I can't eat it everyday! -Slightly more expensive than their brick and mortar cousins, annnnd it's not available on a whim. *Verdict: -Five star cupcake! Some of these other cupcakeries should take note!

I had been following Sandra's Twitter feed (I never use the site for updates, but unfortunately it's one of the only ways to find out where my favorite mobile foods are going to be) for quite a while, contemplating when I would make the effort to track down her truck just to get a sweet fix. I'm not a huge craver of sweet things, most of my indulgences are either in the form of fresh berries or dark and bitter chocolates, so trekking out in the hot summer heat to get a cupcake was never at the top of my priorities list. However, on this fortuitous Friday she happened to have her Sweetbites truck (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=yNSM8oxQ5nKLjZCMuvVoug) parked just a few steps away from the DC Slices truck I visited earlier, in Farragut Square, so after inhaling my 2 slices of pizza I decided to make a little extra room for some of her treats. After gazing in her little preview window I was more than sold. The variety of cupcakes available (along with a few other miscellaneous sweets for those not buying in to the trend) was pretty large for a mobile operation, and quite a few of them sounded right up my alley. I decided to just get one to eat then, and a 4 pack to take home for the wife and I to split, since she was flying back in to DC later that night and I knew she would be jealous if I consumed cupcakes without sharing. The choice for immediate enjoyment was easy, the Pina Colada cupcake (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=1Ji692SZCwVk38R2LQA1bA) with buttercream rum frosting. It may look simple on the outside, but as soon as I took a bite (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=1QTfMpcljKhH0dGXo5ka_g) I was hit with some of the most wonderful flavors I've ever gotten from a cupcake. It's kept refrigerated, which is why I chose to have that one right away, and the chilled temperature amplified the flavors even more. The cake was extremely moist, but held together well, with little shreds of coconut and pineapple inside, and the frosting made with Malibu rum was heavenly. It tasted about two hundred times better than any pina colada drink I've ever had, for sure. Nicole's flight ended up getting delayed several times, and since she didn't get in until sometime around 1am, we wound up saving the other 4 cupcakes til after lunch the next day. They held up wonderfully. We began with the Cookies N' Cream (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=TlHRd_UdbqffHlgckLytyQ), which tasted like the pure essence of Oreo (even without the obligatory cookie sticking from the top) and every great version of the ice cream I've ever had. This has always been one of my favorite ice cream flavors, so it was a real treat to see it expressed so well here. Up next was the Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=uWE-_-4wSR-wJQpG6LdxLg), my favorite of the lunchtime barrage. I loved the layer of dipped Belgian chocolate on top, so smooth and decadent, and the little bit of buttercream frosting that capped it off was just playful enough to tease your appetite with enough non-chocolate flavor to maintain the perfect balance. For me, this was chocolate cupcake perfection. Nicole's favorite was next, the Red Velvet (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=lYIwQ3Ko0YsPwTjjiGj_OA), which for many people has become the gold standard of a cupcake makers ability to craft a simple yet elegant creation, much like a great chef has to learn how to properly cook an egg before they can truly master the many techniques that follow. It was rich, buttery, and expertly done. There's no doubt a few hours went into perfecting this recipe. The cake and frosting leave your lips in a trance with their buttery delight, I can see why Nicole liked this one the best. For me, the cake lacked flavor somewhat, but texturally it was still pretty amazing. Our final treat was the Chocolate Coconut (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5Fhg5tUzpI2m_bleaNHKtw?select=JYFcZ6BX_kIPFeAKjG5WJg), perhaps the most simple and straightforward of the bunch. The mound of coconut piled on top is quite intimidating compared to the other cupcakes, but certainly isn't something that we shy away from since we're both coconut fiends. It pretty much tastes exactly like what you would expect it to, so if you like chocolate and coconut, then it's a no-brainer that you'll enjoy this one. After attending the Cupcake Crawl last year (http://www.yelp.com/biz/uye-cupcake-crawl-dc-nova-alexandria#hrid:vBpEOFVQC9vJ3pZgUuMDCg) I would have placed Sandra's truck in the top 2 or 3 of all the places we visited, with a very strong contention for #1 (although I'm not quite ready to oust Baked and Wired just yet). I certainly haven't been to all the cupcakeries in DC, but for a guy I think I've seen my fair share (at least a dozen), so I do have a decent base for comparison.

We walked up and tried to find line, asked a couple people, and were basically told there were two lines. So I got in the shortest one, of course! Right before I got to the counter to order the employee says to me "You are not in line. They are not in line," as if trying to call us out and shame us like we cut in line. We definitely didn't--and definitely didn't do it intentionally if we did. After that, I said "no thanks, we don't want anything. I don't appreciate being treated that way." I was sad to not get ice cream and even sadder to be treated so poorly. Owner Jason apparently overheard and came and talked to us as we left. I explained the situation and he agreed the line was confusing. He offered me and my friend ice cream cones on the house and I was not only incredibly grateful to be validated about the line, but also grateful to see how much this owner cares about his customer's experiences. Ice cream was great. And the concern about our experience was even better! Thank you Jason!!

The restaurant is super cute, with a fun cafe vibe, and it's an easy walk from the waterfront. We ordered the Colada Trio, which came with empanadas, cauliflower sliders, and yuca fries. Everything was delicious, and it came with three different sauces that were honestly all so good. I could've eaten those sauces with everything. We also ordered the Platanachos (plantain nachos), which were flavorful and such a fun twist on traditional nachos. They accidentally forgot the cauliflower and mushroom topping, but as soon as I mentioned it, they brought it out right away along with extra sauce. Mistakes happen, but what matters is how a place handles them, and they were incredibly accommodating, which I really appreciated. It was pretty busy when we visited, and I noticed who I believe was the manager or owner helping clean tables and checking on guests. I always love seeing that kind of hands-on involvement. Great food, friendly service, and an awesome location if you're exploring the Wharf. I'd definitely recommend stopping by!

We were seated almost immediately which was great but it took the waiter 15 min to come to our table and the restaurant wasn't really crowded. Once he came to our table we gave him our order for drinks. He did not offer water so we asked for water. It took approximately 25 min to receive our drinks and still no water. He finally brought the water when I asked a second time. While we were waiting for our drinks he was steadily walking around aimlessly until he realized we did not receive our drinks. After delivering our drinks we were finally able to order our food. Our food came out in a decent time however, I was so annoyed by this point. For our entrees we ordered the Cajun salmon with grits and the Cajun pasta with chicken and salmon. The Cajun salmon was good but they gave a small portion in ratio of the amount of grits given. The grits were a bit cold and could have used some more seasoning. The Cajun pasta with chicken and salmon was delicious but could have been hotter as well. For drinks we ordered the pineapple Hennessy and whisky margarita. The Pineapple Hennessy was delicious. The margarita could have been stronger and less sweet. Overall, it was decent experience. Not sure if I will return though. Cheers!
