    1/2 strawberries, 1/2 ice-cream w/whipped cream - Reba Special
    James S.

Light as air, crispy, crunchy, sweet, and cooked to order. That's a good funnel cake. I will agree with others, the price is a bit exorbitant and starting at $7 with $1 for each fruit topping and $.50 for sauces you could quickly get yourself into a ridiculously priced funnel. This place might be well served to offer some creative "pre-assembled" combos for a fixed price which could save folks a buck or two and offer some creativity - like: a "Red, White, and Blue" with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream. However, baring the price, my funnel cake was delicious and quite large for the $8.50 that I paid for it. I opted for the Reba's Special with 1/2 scoop of 2 toppings (strawberries and ice cream) and 1 "sauce" (whipped cream). The strawberries were certainly fresh and quite sweet... I thought the scoop was a bit small but the large (1/2) scoop of ice-cream made up for it. One funnel could easily serve two people (that aren't big pigs like me ;) Service took a little while, but the funnel cake was made to order (I watched him fry it). The staff (who I am assuming are the owners) were both very friendly and were keeping up a friendly banter with patrons while waiting. I am knocking of a star for "spendy-ness" combined with the fact that the truck didn't have any utensils today! I had hoped to sit outside and enjoy my cake but had to return to the office in order to dig up a fork as there is no way you are going to eat a topped funnel with your fingers and not turn into a giant sticky mess.m

    Worst funnel cake EVER!!!!

I so wish I can give them no stars! In my 29 years of living this was the worst funnel cake I've had in all of my life. I was initially excited about this funnel cake truck because funnel cakes are one of my most favorite things to eat. So when I while I was walking downtown I just so happen to see the funnel cake truck in the park so I decided to finally try it out. I ordered a regular funnel cake with strawberries & whip cream. The guy at the window told me that they didn't have any strawberries so I just opted for the "strawberry sauce". About 20 seconds later I was handed my funnel cake in a Styrofoam box. First of all, WHERE'S THE CAKE? For a whopping $7 I got a bunch of pre-made, cold, stale, and crusty box of batter. (Oh don't worry I will be attaching a picture!) This box of crust had to have been cooked a few hours ago because there's no way they could have made my funnel cake in 20 seconds. I am so disappointed in this food truck and if Reba's Funnel Cakes is reading please do not take this review or any other bad review lightly.

I'm a student @ Howard U and decided to try out Reba's. The food truck was conveniently parked up the street from my dorm. The line was already pretty long despite the time (11:30/midnight), I ordered the chicken tender wrap combo with ranch as the sauce and a funnel cake. My order took awhile, but it honestly didn't bother me. The wrap is delicious! And fries are okay. The funnel is pretty small, but isn't bad, it's actually really good as well. A good combination of flakiness but a bit of doughiness. I paid around $14 or so dollars, a bit expensive but that's DC for ya I guess, I didn't fuss over it b/c it was birthday lol. Overall, I'd definitely return to Reba's! I want to try the fried cheesecake bites *mouth waters*

Everything is tastier when it looks good and is bite sized and this my friend is a check, check and a check! The owner elevates tarts into one sophisticated bite using seasonal ingredients and beautiful flourishes like sprinkled covered marshmallows or edible flowers. If sugar ain't your thing you can check out their savory flavors as well -- sweet potato hummus? Yes please! The crust is hearty and the perfect foil to the sweet, sweet insides. Perfect for cocktail parties and they take orders online so you never have to talk to a human person (sorry, I'm an anti social hobbit who just wants to live on tarts). Definitely check this local business out!

It's actually worth talking about their appearance before I get to the experience of eating them: On the table, their products look elegant--striking without being intrusive or gaudy. They set a great mood. These are some of the best-presenting tarts I've ever seen. I can't vouch for their full line of products, as the only tart on offer was the Mulled Fruit & Goat Cheese, but it was shockingly well-thought-out: Every texture at play in the tart--firm, crumbly shell; jammy compote; smooth sweet cheese; crisp poached pears--kept its distinct profile throughout the evening. Coming to them later in the night didn't result in a soggy crust, limp fruit or runny compote, and the textures recombining in your mouth were a delight. Of course texture doesn't mean much if it isn't backed up by flavor, and so I saved the best for last. As I mentioned above, it's obvious that everything about this dessert was carefully considered, and considered with excellent judgment, at that. Every element was in balance, announcing itself clearly on the tongue without overwhelming the other notes: The mild cookie-ness of the crust, the deep mulled wine in the compote, the sweet tang of the goat cheese--this was a joy to eat. Full disclosure: Black Pearl is operated by Christina Marie. I do know Christina personally--we have a number of close mutual friends, though I don't know her terribly well. I'm writing this review because Black Pearl is a local start-up whose food really impressed me, not as a personal favor to someone I know.

Our donut was light and fluffy, with a creme infused with real banana. You can tell that they are being thoughtful on their approach to artisanal donuts, and it really shows up in how they elevate this classic dessert. Its rare to find donuts that balance complex flavors, sweetness level, and good crumb but all of those things are what make it distinct fom others, especially chain restaurant donuts. Of course, these are probably made the day of and ours was a large and substantial size. Its definitely a treat-yourself type of moment to commit to the price point, but we weren't disappointed. My take on high‑price‑point food in Union Market is simple: that's exactly where you'll find it. So once you let go of that once you enter, you have a more pleasureable experience by allowing yourself to indulge and try to find the thing that will really fulfill you. And they did that for me. Thank you beautiful ladies who helped me select my donut!

But wow were the rest disappointing (super frustrating bc they look very pretty). All of them felt old and dry, the buttermilk glazed (which tasted like it had citrus glaze icing) and the citrus cake (way dense) were the driest. Chocolate ganache doesn't even taste like chocolate more chemical than anything. Service was extremely slow when all they had to do was place doughnuts in a box -- also seemed like customers were an inconvenience. Overall absolutely go buy other doughnuts. Don't waste your money, product to cost ratio is 1 star.

I can tell you that a full meal is doable here even though it is mainly a bar. Given the tiny space and bar-only seating, it is not comfortable to stay too long, but we did enjoy the various dishes. We got everything on the menu except for the chip & the tomato dishes, ordered a drink each, and the bill came out to $175 (there is a 20% automatic gratuity, which the server pointed out to us). While we were there, we were the only ones to eat a full meal. We clocked an hour, while others didn't stay as long as we did. The confit duck leg was our least favorite dish; we didn't think the flavors worked well together. We really loved the pan de playa (crab sandwich)! Desserts were yummy. I had the most expensive drink at $22- Summers, Horses, Dreams. It was sweet, just how I like my drinks, but the glass seemed small. My husband had the Ni de aqui ni de alla, and he approved of it.
