Their chocolate mousse cake is amazing, I get it every birthday, and their other pastries are solid. Just because it doesn't have the same flavor/ offerings back in 1900 doesn't mean it doesn't taste good anymore. They don't deserve the one star reviews. Time passes and things change, it's doesn't mean it's bad.

I was a neighbor of PbR when they opened & immediately fell in love with EVERYTHING they made!!!!!…read moreThe layered cakes were perfectly balanced - delicious BUTTERcream thinly spread, that curd was soooooo good & THE moistest cake holding it all in either in whole cakes or a slices! Those French tarts with frangipane-all sublime! All the tea cookies were simply butter, sugar, a little flour-simple and delicious! And those fabulous individual pastries were jewel -like in flavor & in decoration. Anytime I would bring a box filled with PbR's jewels to a friend's home, office party or to my neighbors' block party; I WAS THE DESSERT STAR; deservedly, sharing the best with friends. Then a neighbor brought a PbR coconut cake with lemon curd to our block party and I could not finished my slice... thin cake layers, the "buttercream" was not very buttery but sweet & gritty, what lemon curd?! Nowhere to be found, sadly. The Randolph's retired and the new owners are not reading any of those wonderful recipes from the OGs - Chef Mark Randolph, Chef Cindy & their awesome kitchen team.

Located right next to Big Buns, this European Bakery shop has a relaxing coffee shop atmosphere. The kind where if you work remotely you can work here most of the morning and enjoy the quiet ambiance. I usually get a sausage, egg and cheddar or a bacon, egg and cheddar. Though one time they messed up my order and gave me the Roggenart Signature (which is a bacon, egg and cheese with avocado... I'm allergic to avocado). But they corrected the error. Their lattes are also great! I prefer iced ones.

We would have loved one of the delicious looking pastries but we have many meals in front of us today. The staff was beyond helpful and accommodating. Roggenart is tucked back in a tree-lined courtyard with a great patio that faces a large fountain. We enjoyed the shaded seating and the peaceful setting while we drank our coffee.

It almost seems like this place used to be an actual diner of some sorts. There is seating on the front patio with tons of plant life and decorations. There were quite a few people working in groups inside and the WiFi here seems to be fast. This cafe has a pretty full menu which features both breakfast and lunch options. There is also a menu that is special for the weekends. I ordered a regular matcha and it was made just right. I liked the comfortableness of the place and there is searing of all types, from couches to hard bench style seating. The front parking seemed to be limmited to less than 8 spaces. The vibe here is cool

Owner clarified that…read moreremodeling is underway and will include seating; I didn't realize that was part of the renovation, so I should not scrutinize it so harshly. I also realize that my own sensitivity to sweetness is biased, so I won't critique the Habibi latte so harshly. Primary issue with the AI signage remains. Will be back in soon; still very much recommend Detour to others!* Stopped in while running some morning errands after realizing I forgot to eat breakfast; have been a few times previously, first time I decided to review. The food was honestly solid. Ordered the Magician breakfast sandwich as well as the Habibi Latte. The Magician was solid; balanced and hearty without being too dense; the pupusa bun is an intriguing touch; suppose the name "magician" refers to how quickly it disappears, but I could be wrong, haha! The Habibi latte was decent; a little too heavy on the ice, but the flavor profile including dates, cinnamon and cardamom was robust, and evoked the flavors of a Yemeni coffee shop. My biggest issue, one that warrant a full two stars off, is the ambiance. Namely the furnishings as well as the use of AI . While most of the dining room is eclectic and inviting, the furniture, namely the chairs and benches, are deteriorating and visibly withering. I forgot to take a photo, but imaging leather chairs and vinyl seat cushions scaling, chipping and disintegrating beneath you. Past reviews going back a couple years have pointed this out with increasing frequency; I highly encourage the ownership to take notice of this. Moreover, there are a number of visually-obvious AI generated posters throughout the shop, and that also seems to indicate a level of increasing carelessness as well. Overall, not bad, but I am worried about the trajectory of the shop from the lack of investment in dining room infrastructure and promotional materials.
