I reached out to these friendly folks after I received a recommendation from a gluten free bakery near me that didn't have the flavors I was looking for in a birthday cake. I was just under two weeks out from the pickup date, but unfortunately they were booked for custom cakes that weekend. They said they can still make any of their standard flavor options. So I took a look at their menu and WOW! They have some really unique options that you won't find anywhere else. Their signature cake is Herbs de Provence, four layers of honey, rosemary, thyme and lavender cake with apricot honey filling frosted with goat cheese icing. I got a Hummingbird, two layers of banana, pineapple, pecan spice cake frosted with cream cheese icing. They were able to order a custom otter edible image to put on it with a happy birthday message. This was right up the birthday girl's alley and hit a home run. The cake was the best gluten free cake any of our party have had, including two celiacs. It was one of best cakes I've had, regardless of gluten. It was moist and flavorful and just so delicious. read more

If I could give TEN STARS I WOULD!!! That is how PHENOMENAL their items are! Best all gluten free bakery! I personally am super particular about gluten free baked goods and am hard to impress but this place NAILS it! We stopped in on our way home from the Flatirons about 10 minutes before closing and the staff was so incredibly nice, telling us their favorite treats and being patient as we made the tough decisions of what delicious items to buy (and not buy everything we saw!) The TREATS! Red velvet cupcake, lemon cupcake, sugar cookie, blueberry muffin and not pictured a baguette and carrot cake. WOW! All SO good, so fresh and tasty and the best gluten free treats I've ever had. It is 100% worth any amount of driving out to Boulder. Every thing happens for a reason! We found this bake shop after another bakery ghosted us. We are so happy we did. First of all, try the Herbs De Provence cake or cupcake. A Celiac haven!!! This place is to die for. I purchased the baguette and a slice of orange cake to go as I was in town for an appointment and both were heavenly. The staff was so kind and offered 2 different samples in the store, both of which were awesome. You cannot tell based on the texture that their items are gluten free, which is nearly impossible to find. The Kim and Jake's cakes that I sampled were all moist, flavorful, and came in inventive flavors like red wine, apple spice, ginger, and even curry. When I tried their Herbs de Provence cake, which is packed with lavender, rosemary and thyme (plus a delicious apricot honey filling), I immediately fell in love. What a wonderful find...an entirely GF bakery. On this occasion, we called in to see if they could provide a last-minute birthday cake, and by chance they had a 6" carrot cake with cream cheese frosting in the case. They customized the message for me, and by noon we were cake in hand! So far, I have tried their cupcakes, cookies and cakes. Even if you don't want gluten-free baked goods, I would still order from this spot. Their cakes are MOIST, yummy and filled with quality ingredients. I wish their cream cheese frosting were a tad more cream cheesy than sugary, but that's personal preference. I believe the carrot cake has walnuts, raisins and pineapple, so it is complex and delicious. Their standard cakes (vanilla, chocolate, etc) are so damn delicious that I guarantee you'll be guarding the table for cake poachers. The cookies and cupcakes are the bomb, too...but I would skip the 'day-old' cookies even if they are 1/2 off...they were pretty rock solid. Highly recommended! read more

Kim and Jake's did our 3 tiered wedding cake and wow, it was amazing! You can't tell their cakes are gluten free at all! We had such an easy time booking as well. We actually got all of our tastings mailed to us due to the pandemic and then we decided on separate flavors for each tier. (The ginger lime spice cake and the espresso cake are delicious). While I was there I also ordered a couple of their gluten-free cupcakes for my sister-in-law and father-in-law and heard they were delicious. We were visiting from out of town with our daughter who has Celiac disease and is extremely sensitive to gluten. We decided to try all of the dedicated GF places that Boulder has to offer and Kim and Jake's was a HUGE highlight! Kim was super nice and spent a lot of time talking to us. They made our wedding cake and it was wonderful!!! They specially made a vegan cake (they're a gluten free bakery, and not everything is vegan) - it was gorgeous, delicious, and they delivered it to the wedding which took one extra bit of stress away from the day. Our non-vegan guests also loved the cake and had no idea that it was vegan and gluten free. So my hats off to Kim and Jakes. I am forever grateful that they exist. Gluten-free cuppers that peel off insane combinations you fear, but want to get cuds in the club with. Like that bad girl in high school. The one with, like, seven slap bracelets on her arm. The pain she endured to get that look... The Hummingbird (a variety Baked in Cohasset turned me on to) is a moist, spiced sponge with niblets of banana, pineapple and pecans under cream cheese frosting. There's a constant cupcake battle around the size/price ratio, and being one who appreciates the nature of a delectable, gluten-free baked good, I still found the two-bite treat to be a bit hefty at $4. (Her vanilla/vanilla rang in just under). Plus, the frosting had a frozen center. We didn't realize til' we drove away, and the subsequent tooth shock killed my second bite. Kim & Jake have a vision, and the promise is oh so sweet. I'd have hoped for a better experience in their wee store front, especially with all these glowing reviews. The cupcakes were delicious. On quality I would give them a higher rating. My problem is that they use almond milk in the plain chocolate cupcakes. Unexpectedly substituting highly allergenic foods like tree-nuts is dangerous, and I would not have known except that I happened to ask (I have a nut allergy). Vegan is a choice. Gluten free is (usually) a choice. Allergies can be deadly. If you're going to make substitutions, you have a duty to warn people. If businesses won't warn customers about serious health risks, then I feel that I have to. Extraordinarily moist, but not gummy or chewy (I hate when places tout their cakes as moist but they're really just slightly underdone), I (and my colleagues!) would strongly recommend their alcoholic specialty cakes....my personal fave is the Sidecar, but other standouts include the Herbes de Provence, the Dark & Stormy, the Strawberry Margarita, and the White Russian. For our wedding we ordered a variety of cupcakes for the cupcake "tree" and a 6" coconut cake for the top layer. Our two families spent the weekend together getting to know each other. I love Kim & Jake's Cakes! Their flavors are phenomenal (I highly endorse their pumpkin spice cake with maple frosting). On top of that, their ability to accommodate their clients' needs is outstanding. I'm also psyched to see what they're doing beyond cake.
