When I moved to Astoria, I immediately began my search for what would become my go-to coffee shop - and this place easily took the cake. Sweet Scene is across the street from Kaufman Studios and nestled between a lobster roll place and a restaurant/bar - look for the hand-painted sign. Once you step inside, you're greeted by eclectic decor, beautiful raw wood tables, and a huge chalkboard menu behind the counter. I haven't got to try as much of the food as I'd like, but after trying a few baked goods, I'm confident it's all amazing. The cold brew is delicious, it's always warm and cozy inside, and it's really the perfect Astoria/LIC hideaway to hangout or work. It's an unpretentious environment with friendly staff. I normally don't like Lavazza coffee (bad experiences at hotels/gas stations...) but the lattes here were p good. They're not as strong as most of your "indie" coffee shops. (I think a lot of these "indie" coffee shops are small chains under different names). Inside they usually play family-friendly flicks on a flatscreen TV. There is sidewalk seating in front of the cafe w/dog treats and a water bowl. Food was good; glad I ate it. read more

You guys. It's so good. Now - it's one of the few cafes in Astoria that isn't packed to the gils yet, so I hesitate to tell you this because I like having a place to sit - but I love the ladies there and I want them to stick around so I will confess my love to Yelp. I love the latte. (It comes with a wafer cookie!) The burrata salad is out of this world. I think about it on my way there sometimes. The Greek salad is also incredible. And in another place would cost you twice as much. Now, yes, it will take them a little minute to get it to you. But it is 100% worth the wait. I saw a couple order the Greek salad and then start to get impatient and I was just trying to beam into their heads "You are not going to be sorry once you have that salad. It is currently being made with love. You're going to love it in the end." And I was right, too. You can get affordable, delicious things in a warm, friendly environment. Go. Discovered this place on the way to work one day and was pleasantly surprised. It's a a very clean and welcoming place; cozy ambience with friendly service. I love their bold coffee-- full bodied taste without bitterness. I prefer it over the house coffee which is still good. Also a nice place to bring a laptop get some work done (WiFi) read more

Awesome coffee/gelato shop with warm and inviting staff to greet and take your order. They have two types of drip coffee, medium house roast and bold roast. I've tried the medium and thought it was delicious but will try the bold roast next time. Cappuccino is smooth and delicious, but quite small. They have a ton of pastry/danishes/cupcake options that were extremely tempting so I grabbed a small cheese danish and it was well worth it. There's a few tables and chairs and a bench outside as well. Parking can be a struggle even during the day in the middle of the week. There's a lot going on in the area so I get it. Will definitely be back again though and I encourage you all to check it out! read more

Sweet Scene has quickly become my favorite little coffee shop in Astoria. I'm a huge coffee lover - give me cold brew, iced, hot, the whole darn pot. The shop is small and cozy with a few tables set up and there's always people sitting and chatting or doing work on their computers. I always go for the iced coffee but they also have options from lattes to Greek coffee. They have gelato, pastries, and a few salads and sandwiches that I have been meaning to try because the selections look yummy. They give their customers loyalty card and you get your 11th coffee on the house! read more

I love the interior environment of the cafe. It's bright and i love the big tree trunk tables. I love that they don't get terribly busy and therefore is a GREAT alternative to Starbucks. They have great drinks and great food! I highly recommend the Greek yogurt and any of their soups. It's a mom/daughter business and I love to go there to support it. read more

Amazing little cafe that I happened to stumble upon! I have tried the chai latte and regular latte so far and I am pretty hooked. I liked that I was able to choose a milder or bolder latte. Cappuccino was so good my wife had to order two. The again, it was small too. Unique take on spinach pie, contrary to the square pieces I'm accustomed to in NYC. Women at the counter are REALLY sweet. I feel like at someone's home. The furniture at atmosphere are elegant, making me feel like the $1 cookies and other goods are a steal. Best hot chocolate ever! I have been to Brussels where the hot chocolate is actually made with real chocolate and they were damn good. But the hot chocolate here is out of the world. I don't know how it is done but it is made with Premium Ghirardelli hot chocolate mix. It is foamy, creamy, sweet, and salty goodness. This is such a cute little spot to get some quiet time and reading done before heading to the movies nearby! I had a large chai tea (yum) and a slice of the banana bread. There was a slightly chatty group of young people (because I am apparently a geriatric with my chai tea trying to read the paper) talking about undergrad classes amongst their iced coffees because most seats were taken. Eleni was prompt and communicative from the beginning to end of the planning process, always answering any questions I had. I would go back to them in a heartbeat to get the Sweets for ANY event. I have to concur with another reviewer here, I wish I could give 6 stars or higher for Sweet Scene! My God, the decor and ambience of this place is amazing, The color scheme, the handmade wooden tables, the benches, etc. all contribute to a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. One can tell that the owners took great time and care in the decor. Even the bathroom was great! They provide great friendly and courteous service. They REALLY do care! A definite neighborhood type vibe. Oh, and they are pet friendly, outside the store they have a bowl of doggie treats and a bowl of water set up, so considerate! My absolute favorite is the cold brew! An iced coffee with a great bold taste without the bitterness. Goodbye Starbucks, Hello Sweet Scene! And just to show how much care and detail provided by this establishment, they offer simple syrup as an alternative to sugar, because sugar doesn't dissolve well in iced coffees. I really just can't come up with enough deserving praise about their cold brew. You must try the homemade soups. And when i state homemade, I mean HOMEMADE! I just go crazy for their meatball soup (Yourvalaki)! A combination of scrumptious meatballs and rice, and creamy egg and lemon. MMMMM! Just like my Greek mom would make. I also love their baguette sandwiches, the fresh crispy bread is the key! Another favorite of mine is the cheese danish, so flaky, and the cheese...tasty and creamy. They also have a variety of FRESH salads. I'm not into sweets that much, but their chocolate croissants and cupcakes are awesome!
