Tanghulu

After drive all day from LA, this little sweet pop sf is a big surprise for us. The tanghulu was absolutely delicious--fresh fruit with a perfect crispy sugar coating, we all love it! What made the experience even better was how kind and welcoming the owner was ! Highly recommend this place!

It ended up being one of my favorite stops in the city, and I really look forward to coming back soon. It's an easy one to get to on a walk in the area. It feels like a cafe or coffee roaster, so modern and clean, but with a clear love of everything chocolate. I'm told on the weekends it gets super busy thanks to their menu of chocolate infused everything including coffees and teas. On the left to the inside is their full range of bars, which includes a placard with the location of the cacao and tasting notes. There are also free samples of everything, and the servers can help you with questions. They even have little tasting sheets for notes if you want to get serious and remember for future visits. They have a few tables and bar seating at the front, with more bar seating along the back right leading to the clean restrooms. Here you'll also find educational displays about chocolate and viewing windows to the roasting and processing rooms. Even though it was afternoon, it was so much fun to order things with caffeine just for the sheer joy of it. We had the chocolate milk, I had a chocolate infused black tea, we shared a special new bar, and were given their signature tiny cookies. Prices are reasonable for the quality, both the drinks and the bar. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, they clearly love the place as much as we do.

I ordered several Bars, Bonbons, & Butter Toffee Collection from a recently work trip while out in SF, and they were such a hit! Each box is beautifully packaged and wrapped, and you just need to pop it in to a nice gift bag with some tissue paper, and you're all set! Each gift box contains sing-original chocolate bars, NeoCocoa, sea salt caramels, and Christopher Elbow chocolates (which are macadeamia and hazelnut praline bonbons). Definitely worth checking them out if you're looking for a gift for one that has a sweet tooth! +gift boxes +beautifully packaged

It's…read morearguably better than Mitchell's, even though they serve Mitchell's ice cream, because it usually has a much shorter line and it's just so cute and old-timey that it feels like a soda fountain from the 50's. The folks behind the counter are always incredibly nice and surprisingly patient, especially considering they take most of the orders from indecisive children like mine... There's a really lovely little bench swing in the back that's great for keeping kids busy or for photos. There's also a party room in the back that's great I've not yet seen but I plan to book it for one of my kids' birthday parties sometime soon. If you're near West Portal and want ice cream, fudge, or old school novelty candy (including Pez) this is DEFINITELY the place.

I brought my son here for the first time and his eyes lit up. Hell, so did mine! I am a candy-holic and this place serves up some delicious treats. From gummies to chocolate, to ice cream and fudge.. This place has all your sugary needs. Added bonus, they serve Mitchell's, and have my favorite flavor, chocolate caramel crackle!!! THEE BEST!! If you don't know, now you do! Your welcome. The young lady working today was SO nice and helpful. Thank you! FYI, They also offer private parties in their back room. They have different packages with one including candy-making, pizza, and ice cream! Ummm.. YES PLEASE! If that weren't enough, you could even have your own ice cream social and they can come to you with their ice cream cart. Love this! This place gives me old skool, nostalgic ice cream parlor vibes and I love that. Perfect little sweet spot.

The chocolate making kits were mailed out in plenty of time before the event and included the chocolate and other ingredients to make 5 different candies (even tiny tongs to dip with). You know how virtual activities can just be...awkward? This was definitely NOT that! Now onto the chocolate - unreal. The peanut butter cups were ultimately my favorite, but I loved the bear paws and pecan clusters. The chocolate covered Oreos and strawberries were also amazing! She's kept the best of the old Sakura and brought in new things including all of the food in the cooler. It happens that she's a caterer. I worked with her for two special bento boxes for myself and husband for an anniversary. I was upfront about my food intolerance nightmare! It begins with gluten and gets worse. But she didn't bat an eye lash - she worked with it and presented us with two incredible bento boxes! The flavors are perfect. Lively vinegars brighten up her unique seaweed salad - which is big pieces of seaweed and nice slices of cucumber. Everything comes in a compostable paper box. Rice is at the bottom and on top of it are small cupcake cups with the various treats inside to keep them separated. We ate at home so we put each cup of deliciousness on a plate, and kept the bowl with the rice. She gave us salmon, a beef dish I can't really describe other than to say it was great. I told her I love mizuna and she presented us with this hard to find green. Hands down our favorite was unagi!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thick pieces with the right amount of not-too-sweet and really flavorful sauce. Dang, next time I'll get an unagi bento box it was that fantastic! We loved every minute of our lunch today - thank you so very very much. You've got fans and loyal customers. Knowing you do full-on catering will make parties and such really easy. It was so easy picking up at Sakura! Thank you again. You are truly a treasure !!!
