I had the catfish combo with cream grits and shrimp, and it was amazing. Everything was flavorful, cooked to perfection. The bacon was so good and crispy. The only miss was the apple crumble was cold but I'm not sure if that was on purpose. I was expecting it to be hot. The greens were fantastic as well. I would go back and order the same thing again and again.

He had curly hair, was light skinned, and appeared to be either a waiter or busser. While we were seated, he bumped into my chair at least three times and even hit me in the back of the head while trying to move around the area. He apologized each time, but after it kept happening, it became frustrating and uncomfortable. He was also spraying 409 heavily at the table right next to us while we were eating. It was so much spray that I genuinely felt like it may have gotten on my food. On top of that, he repeatedly dropped things around our table and seemed to have a difficult time maneuvering through the dining area. It honestly made me wonder if the table placement itself was part of the problem The food service was also disappointing. My meal came out first, and I had to wait quite a while for my sister's chicken biscuit. When it finally arrived, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. My pancake and bacon were both good. I just wish the overall experience had matched the quality of those items. Between being repeatedly bumped into, being hit in the head, cleaning chemicals being sprayed next to our food, and undercooked chicken, it made the experience difficult to enjoy.

Nice and cozy inside with an open kitchen. The place was very clean and not too loud. They had some nice old school soul music playing in which I liked. Everyone talked about how stellar the service is but we didn't experience that. Our server Alex was a nice gentleman but he wasn't very attentive to us. He seemed to give the other tables a lot more attention than he gave us. 5/10 for service. I still tipped him 25% but he didn't deserve a 10% tip. The food made up for his lackluster service. We ordered The Short Ribs, Bone in Pork Chop, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Cornbread w/Honey Butter & the Banana pudding for dessert. The short ribs came on top of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes with a very savory gravy. This dish was spot on, tender and everything was seasoned to perfection!! It comes with some fried onions on top which added a nice touch to the dish. 10/10!! The Bone in Pork Chop was decent. Very tender but the flavor was basic at best. My wife & I agreed that it was a mediocre dish. 5.3/10. Now the sides were absolutely delicious!! The collard greens were so flavorful. Some of the best collards I've ever eaten. Cooked perfectly! 10/10. The Mac & Cheese was also amazing! Baked and homemade with a nice crust of cheese on top! Easy 10/10. The cornbread was pretty good. It paired well with the greens. Slightly sweet but not too sweet. 7/10. The banana pudding is something that got rave reviews but it was just ok to us. Nothing special as I make a better banana pudding. 5/10. I wouldn't get it again. All in all it was a very good meal. We will definitely return. As we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Check them out if you haven't. You won't be disappointed. 8.5/10 overall. Remember ALL reviews are subjective

Our server, Miguel, was phenomenal. She was attentive, fast, and gave us some spot-on recommendations. Per her advice, we ordered the deviled eggs with jalapeño, hands down the highlight of the table. The deviled eggs with paired with that subtle jalapeño kick was absolutely perfect. For the mains, the chicken and waffles were good, carrying that solid comfort food flavor you expect. The waffles were a bit soft for my taste. To drink, the sidecar was mixed perfectly, well-balanced, crisp, and hit the exact right note. Giving it 4 stars only because while the mains were good, the starters and the outstanding service from Miguel were what truly stole the show. I'll definitely be back to hang out at the bar again nest time I am in town!

Very hip and trendy, with a great atmosphere and a two-story layout. The upstairs area looked like it would be perfect for larger groups or private gatherings. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the atmosphere. We were a party of six and arrived before the big dinner rush, so it wasn't particularly busy when we ordered. Our server was very quiet and not especially engaging. I was seated toward the end of the table, and rather than walking over to take my order or answer questions, she spoke to me from across the table. I personally enjoy being able to have a conversation with my server, especially when I have questions about gluten-free options, and it was awkward trying to communicate across five other people. Our food took approximately 35 minutes to arrive after ordering, which seemed excessive considering how quiet the restaurant was when we placed our order. Interestingly, the staff assisting with clearing tables and refilling water were much friendlier and more personable than our actual server. The GF Fried chicken was good, crispy but lacked flavor. I did not care for the GF waffles, and the syrup was underwhelming. Others enjoyed their meal, the fish and chips and short ribs were well liked. One thing worth mentioning: Yardbird automatically adds a 20% gratuity for parties of six. We all had separate checks, and when paying through the QR code, the payment system also prompted for an additional tip. If you're not paying attention, it would be easy to tip twice, so definitely double-check before submitting payment. The restaurant is on the pricier side, although the portions are generous. Overall, I loved the atmosphere and appreciated having gluten-free options, but the service and overall experience fell a little short of expectations. I'm glad we tried it, but I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again.

We both shared the macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and collard greens, which was all delicious. Everything was delicious. We also had some corn muffins that were sweet and buttery and I hate cornbread.! Which is visited the new location about three weeks ago! We couldn't wait to go back!! how do I spoke to Chef Roy about how delicious her food was how great the quality was and how everything was executed expertly. I told her that this place reminded me of a higher end Paje's (Paje's was a Soulfood restaurant that was popular from about 2000 to 2006 here in Chicago located on Milwaukee)! Surprisingly, she said she used to work there and gave them the idea about selling the Kool-Aid in the mason jars, which was an excellent idea. I couldn't wait for her to get her liquor license because I saw that same Kool-Aid in mason jar in other pictures on Yelp which had liquor added! She was so excited and such a nice woman. She introduced me to her daughter!! She was just so happy to be there eating her mom's delicious food! I asked Chef Royce could we take a picture with her and we had a nice conversation!!! She died last Sunday! Sending sympathy and condolences to her daughter and the rest of her family! We lost a culinary legend here in Chicago! A lovely, vibrant woman gone too soon!!!!!

The fried green tomatoes were outta this world. I was suspicious about the feta but it works! The sauce that went with it was amazing too. My wife ordered the catfish which was season really well. Her sides were decent. I order the chicken and cornbread French toast. This was truly a gem with the peaches on top. The chicken needed a little hot sauce but mixed with the syrup it was a nice sweet spicy combo. Let's not even get started on the drinks. I didn't realize it was a sister restaurant to 14 Parish so you know those drinks are going to hit. The peach cognac joint was chef's kiss. The interior was bright and lively and just truly a vibe. Even with a reservation we waited around 20 minutes, they were busy, even for a Friday morning. So again, highly recommend a reservation. The space is good size, featuring indoor and outdoor seating and even a bar if you want to belly up to it. We ended up in one of the two-seater booths not far from the entrance. Their menu features all the classic breakfast and brunch dishes plus a few twists or elevations of those dishes. We had our eye on several things, but ended up going with a classic breakfast croissant/sandwich, a side of jalapeno grits and sausage. Before we placed all that, we ordered the biscuit basket to start with. Unfortunately the biscuits made it out well after our main dishes did. The biscuits were tasty, but the butter they were served with was ice cold and still very much frozen, due to that, we could not get the full flavor of the strawberry butter. The honey was good, it had a nice kick to it. But we do wish the butter had been a bit more thawed. The other dishes were solid, sandwich was as expected, sausage was okay and the grits were smokey, creamy and cheesy. Service was good, our server was friendly and helpful, but a bit overwhelmed. They were busy, and we were not in a rush, but you could tell she was in deep. But even so, she was still polite and engaging throughout our meal. Overall, we enjoyed Dawn AM Eatery. We wouldn't rush back upon our next visit to Hyde Park, but we wouldn't completely avoid the spot. Solid 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

It's a small spot, and it was busy when I went. The staff were super nice and welcoming, too. But man, the food is what really got me. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich House Style, which came with cucumber coleslaw, dill pickles, and chipotle buttermilk ranch. And instead of regular bread, I got it on a biscuit, which honestly took the whole thing to another level. The biscuit was soft, crumbly, with that buttery flavor that paired so well with the fried chicken. Calling this just a sandwich almost feels wrong because the whole thing was an absolute mess in the best possible way. The chicken was the star, it was crunchy, red golden and incredibly juicy. The Nashville hot sauce brought a spicy kick that hit right away and lingered, while the dill pickles added a sharp, tangy bite. The cucumber coleslaw brought a cool, refreshing crunch, and the chipotle buttermilk ranch added a creamy, smoky flavor that helped bring everything together. I even added some honey making the sandwich even better. The sweetness softened the heat just enough, creating this sweet-and-spicy combination that made every bite more exciting. There was so much happening, sauce everywhere, toppings sliding around, and absolutely worth the mess. Roost absolutely delivered. I came for a chicken sandwich, but that biscuit made it something else entirely.
