My fried rice was delicious. The server was very attentive. The presentation and taste of the food was nice. The restaurant is small and ideal for smaller groups of 2-4 people. To avoid the crowd, you can get there at non-peak times. The martini's are tasty as well.
Popped into this little Japanese spot for a quick dinner. We were a few strip malls away at Jammin Java and had a few hours to kill before the head liner. Small dining area full of locals. I absolutely know why. We were seated immediately in spite of the crowd. Near the sushi bar. Huge menu. A vast array of sushi selections and Japanese dishes. We got sushi of course (not pictured). Fresh and delicious. Lots of wasabi and pickled ginger. Then we had the spring rolls. So hot and crunchy. Packed with shrimp but not filling. GET THESE! We also had the traditional soup and salad (traditional) My dinner date lived in Japan a few years and confirmed that his Yakisoba was authentically prepared. I tasted his and it was delicious. Packed with veggies and tons of protein. My fried rice was awesome. Served piled high in a little wok. Portions were incredible. Seriously, enough for lunch the next day. They didn't have a bar but do have a good bar selection menu with mixed drinks and Japanese Beer. I had Kirin and it was ice cold and satisfying. All in all, if you're in the area, shopping or looking for a great dining experience try Sweet Ginger. Good Eats!
Last customer first today.. had a good service and a big welcome .. Crazy rolls is really good .. seafood dynamite roll is outstanding.. the restaurant is clean and cozy.. give it a try!
I came here last night to satisfy my sushi cravings, and as usual, the sushi was amazing. I'm never let down! We had Alaska Roll, Yellowtail roll, and some of their specialities menu incl, beauty and the beast roll (eel), pacific roll and rainbow roll. I'm not sure what's changed, though, because the last time we were here, they said we only got the free miso soup or salad if we spent at least 30 PP, and we definitely spent less than that. Maybe they saw my last comments and decided to switch things up, LOL. Again, sushi was GREAT as ALWAYS.
Second time coming here and it's damn good. When you really don't wanna think or truly care about the quality and just need a hardy meal that will taste good... this is the place. Their pad thai with grilled steak is supa good, lot of noodle and a good steak amount. Got their Mexican roll which was really good as well and then the bento box is never a miss. Sushi is fresh, service is good, honestly no complaints. Don't expect the highest quality or the greatest environment, it's a causal dining spot so enjoy the vibes and the good food. It's usually packed but didn't need to wait for a table. Good place, good food, no complaints.
I love coming to this small & cozy sushi spot. This is my go to place for rolls and the service here is always great. They are extremely accommodating and you're in and out in no time. I always leave satisfied
This by far is my favorite sushi place in the DMV. Their quality has always been the same and you can count on them to be consistent. The service here is good. They are attentive and keep your drinks filled. The sushi here is really good. I came here with a few friends and we ordered a bunch of sushi. We started off with a Miso soup and salad for each person. For the sushi, we started with with toro sashimi and salmon sushi. The toro was perfect! The interior seating is spacious. The booths fit 4 people while their tables fit more. We then moved on to the boat where we ordered the volcano roll, wasabi cream roll, omega roll, eel avocado, spicy toro roll, mexican roll, and more. I recommend their spicy mayo on the side and fresh wasabi. With these two items people tend to forget, it makes the experience even better. I highly recommend these folks if you're in the mood for sushi.
Came here for dinner, my boyfriend and I ordered the Omega-3, Mexican, Pacific and Crab Roll. This is the first time I've been to a restaurant where we ordered 4 different sushi rolls, and yet it all taste the same. The same sauce were used on all of the rolls. Very unimpressed! Our server, Goong, was absolutely unprofessional and unapologetic to her mistake. A person at our party ordered Thai Curry with vegetables. Our server then asked her if she wanted it with tofu. The person at our party answered, sure I'll have tofu. When the entree came out, the server dropped down a Thai Basil Tofu dish, which clearly not what she ordered. She bought it up to the server attention, the server then just shrugged it off and asked her if she could eat it. Everyone at the table heard our guest at the table order curry, so when we started looking over, the server just got quiet. No apologies. The person at our party just sucked it up and ate it, even though the right thing to do at that point is for the server to get her the dish that she ordered. Never once apologize!! Also during the beginning of our meal, our server Goong asked if it's going to be separate check or together. We told her separate. Throughout the time of ordering, we again explained to her who is on what check. At the end of the meal she brings out one check. We look at her in surprise and told her it was separate like we had mentioned. Then she just goes and shrugged it off like she doesn't know anything. Absolutely RIDICULOUS! She should not be treating customers the way she does and own up to her mistakes instead of trying to play it off like she doesn't know or understand what is going on. Absolutely horrible service and food is ok, not worth coming to.
Treated my cousin to Sweet Ginger for his birthday and we were both amazed by the quality and quantity of food we received for the price paid. We made it easy for our patient and attentive waiter by ordering two Thai iced tea and the Bento Box A with beef teriyaki. Everything was cooked and prepared to perfection. Starting with the Thai iced tea; which was almost like a dessert. So smooth and sweet! It complimented the meal. The miso soup was comforting and had a balanced ratio of broth, tofu, greens, and green onion. The salad was fresh, crisp, and dressed with a rich and tasty peanut dressing. Of course, the highlight of our meal was the incredible bento boxes. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were my favorite. They were breaded to ideal crispiness and paired well with the soy dipping sauce. The vegetables were one big broccoli floret and large sliced carrot and zucchini medallions. The teriyaki steak was scrumptious, served on a bed of cabbage slaw with a generous amount of sauce. There was enough for me to dip other box components into, like the California rolls, tofu, and the Japanese dumpling. We dusted off everything. Not even the leftover salad dressing remained because we drank it all up! The whole experience was so much fun and we had a blast. Can't wait to go back. We left feeling satisfied and can add this to our list of happy memories!

This is officially my favorite sushi spot in the entire DMV area. All the food is absolutely amazingly fresh and every piece is just a roller coaster for your taste buds. I first roll i would recommend is the volcano roll. I don't know how to explain it but they place crab meat on top of the roll and drench the entire roll with this amazing sauce. I don't know how to really explain it but it's all good. Get this roll! The next roll i would suggest is the soft shell crab roll. There are some places that use squid instead of real soft shell crab, but Sweet Ginger definitely know what they are doing and fry the soft shell crab to perfection. They compliment the soft shell crab so perfectly while not overpowering the shellfish and really highlight the crab. A must try roll if you come here. I also got the shrimp tempura appetizer and they give you veggies that are fried as well. They are fried but are still very light. Highly recommended. read more

I knew from the start I was in the hands of professionals. Take notes my friends, because confidence is king. Sweet Ginger displayed a genuine, impossible to counterfeit conviction as if there were absolutely no doubt that they would deliver great service. As I ordered my Shirley Temple, my cousin asked the server if there were cherries, to which he responded with a ever so brief look of confusion and offense. "Of course there are cherries" he said matter of factly as if it were a stupid question. IT IS A STUPID QUESTION and you will never understand the tsunami of relief that washed over me once I learned that I was dining at a restaurant that has common sense and class. One should never have to ask if a Shirley Temple has cherries, because it wouldn't be a Shirley Temple, by definition, without cherries. Therefore, Sweet Ginger's response to my cousin's stupid question, confusion, attitude and all, is the only correct way to respond. And I applaud them for that. Yes, 2 cherries were included in my beverage that night. The Shirley Temple was solid, by far the most grenadine I've seen thus far, but I liked it because by the time the ice melted, it still tasted like a Shirley Temple. The sprite was a little flat, I could've used more fizz. However, between the sweetness, temperature, and inclusion of cherries, I thoroughly enjoyed my beverage and that's all I could ever hope for as a customer of a restaurant. Is this a five star Shirley Temple? Not so sure. But experience puts the "E" in "restaurant" and I very much enjoyed the feeling of certainty that there would indeed by cherries in my Shirley Temple. The decor of the restaurant was really nice and I was craving some good sushi and most of the sushi were decent. Their appetizers were also good to try before you get sushi or sashimi. Would go again if I be in that area again. read more
This is a hidden gem. I was feeling like sushi so just yelped and found this place. From outside it was looking as any other Japanese place but as soon as I stepped in, I was amazed. Very nice decor and well organized. Place is comparatively smaller and quite busy. Around 7 all the tables were taken. They have great variety of sushi to choose from. They also have thai and Chinese option. We ordered grilled chicken with rice noodles, forgot the name of the dish. Chicken was grilled well and I liked the spices. Dishes took a while to come out so be prepared to wait for your food. read more

I found Sweet Ginger by searching for restaurants on google. It was late at night and my husband and I just wanted to get something to eat. I read the reviews and we decided we would take a shot. We walked in and the place was nicely decorated. The staff tended to us right away. Not only was the food amazing, but the staff was terrific, the prices were more than reasonable (especially for the area) and it surprised us how fast our food came. The number and variety of selections was huge from sushi to steak. I wanted to come home right away and right a review. It was just that good. We will definitely go back again and again. read more
My friends and I came across this play from the positive yelp ratings and also a recommendation from a friend. When we came in, it was like a fusion of a Japanese and Thai vibe and when we saw the menu, they actually had Japanese + Thai food which we thought was an odd mix. We all shared two sushi plates with each other. It had rolls, sashimi, and nigiri on the plates with different types of fish. Some of the fish like salmon was really good but tuna, flounder (I think it was flounder anyways) were really tough and dry. They either weren't frozen properly or wasn't thawed properly. You can just tell that it wasn't fresh. I really liked their pricing and service though! But don't think I'll be coming back for the sushi. read more

I was really excited to try this place. However, everything about it was average, from service to interior to the sushi. I only had the sushi so I can't speak for the other dishes but it didn't stand out. Everything is doused in spicy mayo, which I'm personally not a fan of so had to ask to make sure it was on the side. Charged $1 for a tempura jalapeño when I asked whether they had fresh sliced jalapeños. Would have paid $1 happily if I got what I requested. With other gems in the area like Passion Fin and Sushi Yama with overall better service and quality and rolls, I probably won't be back myself but not a bad place if you're in that shopping center/in that block and are craving sushi. read more

This place is so yummy and even though it's in a random shopping center, once you are inside the restaurant it is pretty! It's just a regular sushi spot but the sushi is sooooooooooo good! I got something with the name king and another with seafood! I also got 2 regular sushi's (salmon roll and shrimp tempura roll!) This place won't let you down!! Always ask for spicy mayo on the side, makes the sushi taste even better! Refills are for free so get some soda!! Prices weren't bad lol... but hey, it's sushi and it's worth it!!! Parking is great! Service is good too, they are quick and listen and remember everything! read more

The sushi here is amazing!! Presentation, quality and price was ok point. Compared to many other sushi places in NOVA/DC, this is one of the top. I will definitely be back!!! Oh and side note, their drunken noodles were pretty good too (wasn't drenched in too much sauce like most places) read more

A friend and I went for dinner and right as you walk in the decor is so cute! It was so inviting and warm. We were sat down quickly, and the service came with a smile. They have happy hour until 7 and we had only a few minutes until it was over. We ordered a couple drinks (the Moscow mule was pretty good, and it came in an actual copper cup ). This is what surprised me even more, the server came over with a smile and said that it was last call before happy hour was over and if we wanted to order anything else. Most places would have never done that. She visited each table to make sure they all knew. That's what you call customer service. Now, let's talk about the sashimi, because that's all I really wanted (tonight, anyways). We ordered the sashimi for 2, along with fresh wasabi, and spicy salmon roll. The miso soup and salad came out quickly after we ordered. This was nice, because I was really hungry. The salad dressing had more of a peanut flavor, which wasn't bad. But I love the dressing that's more ginger based. Right after, the sashimi came out. It was so fresh, and so appealing to the eye. This paired with the fresh wasabi was amazing. The fresh wasabi was so good, you get the chunks of the wasabi and it didn't look like just green toothpaste. The flavor was definitely better. Overall, my experience was enjoyable. The sashimi was fresh and tasty and the price was good for the portion. I would recommend it to a friend and would definitely go again. read more

Sweet Ginger is one of my Favorite Sushi Locations in the Northern Virginia Area. I have been coming here since 2011 and I have never been disappointed. I will say once I found my favorite things to order I haven't really strayed to try new things very often but when I have I have never been unhappy. Everything I have had has been amazing. My typical order includes The King Crab Roll, The Tuna Avocado Salad and sometime if I am extra hungry or want leftovers the Sushi Combo which comes with Miso Soup and salad and your choice of rolls. The service is always quick and pleasant and I will continue to keep coming. read more

Totally surprised by how good this place was. Chirashi bowl with rice perfectly cooked (a la restaurant vs grocery store sushi rice), all the fish was very fresh, service was great and the price was reasonable. Def would go back! read more
Sweet Ginger is a solid three star experience - friendly service at a local business with good, reliable food. Overall, it's not bad, but the experience could use maybe a little updating. This is a fully service place (with takeout) in a Vienna shopping center. Everyone who works here is super nice, and your drinks and food arrive promptly. Overall, the interior is fairly nice, with an open sushi counter. The tables are looking a little worn, as are the menus and interior overall, though. The menu itself is massive - really too big, organized somewhat confusingly by region. There are a ton of Japanese options (including sushi), plus a solid page of pan-asian options. The beer and wine options are OK, but I would skip the cocktails. These are you typical Asian restaurant cocktails from 10-15 years ago - sweet and light on the alcohol. There's nothing wrong with that, but $10 each, just not really the right price for that option. The pan asian entrees are good, but nothing amazing. The General Tso's chicken is crispy, but on the sweet side, lacking any red chilis. But it's tasty, and served with good white rice. The paid thai has the right flavors, with well-cooked shrimp. Portions are decent and the entree prices are good. Overall, this is a decent experience, but the food isn't worth going out of your way for. It's a very solid, fast pickup option or quick full-service dinner. It's a step above Hunan Delight. But Thai by Thai in Dunn Loring has better entrees at the same price point. read more
I've heard about sweet ginger for years and finally I made my way to get lunch today. Very friendly service and reasonably price menu! Sweet ginger's multi-ethnic cuisine (japanese and thai) gets big brownie point since I want more than one type of dish. We got lunchbox #3 and pork-katsu. Both comes with salad and miso soup. Tempura was good (light and right crunchness) and a side dish of sweet fried tofu was very tasty. Katsu had good crisp crust and flavorful meat. I really liked the potato salad comes with Katsu. This potato salad had no mayo and had peas and diced mushroom. Hightlight of the meal: Asian donut!! This is different from most american donuts (e.g. krispy kreme). It was gooey and soft like mochi. I think it was made of sticky rice powder (not wheat flour) so it gets different texture. This kind of donuts are popular in Japan and Korea. I love this donut and if you like mochi, you should try it. I will definitely return to try other non-japanese dishes soon. read more

I feel like I've been giving out a lot of 3 star ratings lately... Anyways. This restaurant deserves 3 stars. I think the 4 stars it gets is a little generous.... With that being said though, I didn't get all the sashimi or nigiri. I stuck with temaki. I also didn't try any of their asian noodles. I decided to finally try this place out because we were in the area and I had this placed bookmarked. However, upon arriving and seeing the super expansive menu, I realised this may not be to my liking. I usually find that the larger the menu, the lower the quality. Not always!! But in my experience, that usually is the case. So my friend and I went in around 5:45-6:00 pm on a Saturday evening. They were pretty busy and it appeared that they had a bunch of reservations coming in later as well! We sat down, looked over the menu. We decided to split the duck rolls off of the Asian Kitchen menu App page. I was probably most disappointed with this dish! It looked appetizing definitely! But the taste was such a let down. I didn't like how there was so little duck! It was maybe 2 thin slices in each half. The duck was over fried. I couldn't even taste duck. I just tasted fried batter. The pancake was more of a fried puff pastry. This was also a huge let down as it was so oily. I didn't like the accompanying veggies as they were also scarce and they weren't really edible. They were like the ends near the root of the green onion or vegetable that no one wants. And for the dish to be 6~7 $. That was outrageous! Huge point deduction here. For dinner I got two temaki. Spicy tekka temaki and spicy yellowtail temaki. The yellowtail one was just okay. Not bad, but certainly not good. It wasn't memorable either. I literally just ate a few hours ago and I can't even remember this hand roll really well. The one thing I do remember is the cucumber. This was very shocking to me. They literally just put one whole cubed slice of cucumber in the hand roll! They didn't finely chop/Julienne the cucumber like in traditional kappa maki or other places where I get temaki. That was a huge point deduction. (5.50$)they gave out a pretty good portion of the yellowtail, but I think this one needed more spicy Mayo sauce. I actually liked the spicy tekka temaki the best! If I had just had that, I would definitely given this place 4 stars, if not 5! This temaki had the perfect amount of spice and tuna. Yes, it could have been spicier, but I really liked it here! I also really liked the texture of the tuna. The mix was perfect and I loved the added in masago. I also really liked the avocado and the fact that they didn't skimp out on the tekka. And the price was just right! 5.50$!! Only complaint: the cucumber cubed slice! My dining companion ordered the #5 Bento box. It is huge and they give you a lot of food! ($16.50~$17.00). I thought it looked pretty good! You get 6 nigiri, 3 pieces of California maki, 3 Japanese dumplings, a cup of rice, and chicken with a sweet soy sauce. It also comes with Miso soup and salad. However my dining companion thought it was just alright. He let me try it and I agreed. The dumplings were okay, the chicken was okay, and everything was just 'okay'. I feel like they were going more for quantity, not quality. The fish on the nigiri was okay, and it lacked the wasabi between the fish and Shari. The Shari (rice) had a very light vinegar taste. But I assume they did that to appeal to the American palate. The service was good. I don't have any complaints! I felt bad for the waitress as it took me so long to order! She remained calm and extremely patient! The wait staff was all very helpful and they helped eachother out. I had waiters from other tables clearing my plates. :) All in all, I may come back to try the Thai dishes or the other Asian dishes, however I feel like I will be disappointed. The price is also pretty steep for some of their special rolls!! But if I were to come back, it will definitely have to try the bagel roll! read more
I was enticed by the photos posted here on Yelp of all the colorful rows of sushi and sashimi.. I even snapped a few myself. But looks aren't everything, right? The rolls here are not very well-made, were overly sauced, heavy on the rice, and had sad amounts of fish/seafood. Service was friendly and attentive though - my girlfriend and I always had full cups of water and green tea and our dishes were brought out quickly. Tempura Udon - Really the highlight of our meal. The broth was comforting and flavorful, not greasy at all. The hot soup was a perfect companion to the rolls. Crunchy Lobster Roll - Delicious because of the creamy orange sauce, but that's all I tasted. The lobster, or what I assume to be lobster, looked like it was minced and provided no texture or flavor. Seafood Dynamite Roll - Shrimp tempura roll with lots of artificial crab meat over the top in a sauce that tasted very much like gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) - the sauce was out of place for me. I didn't care too much for this one. Rainbow Roll - This wasn't bad, but again, they really skimped on the raw fish. After just recently trying out Sushi Prince, I can't help but compare the two and be a little disappointed. Although, the prices here are right and the service is friendly, there are other sushi places nearby that offer better quality cuts of fish - I won't be making the hike here again any time soon. read more
First time here at sweet ginger and I gotta say...... LOVE IT. Definitely will be back soon! Everything was absolutely delicious! GREAT SERVICE. Unfortunately do not remember our servers name. I got a steak bento box it was delicious! My girlfriend got a chicken bento box (of course I had to try) and it was mouth watering! Don't even get me started with their sushi! AMAZING. We had to get a boat of course! If I had to give one word to describe this place: OUTSTANDING. (The dumplings that come in the bento box are so yummy). read more
My friends and I have been wanting to try this popular Asian-fusion place out and finally got a chance to several days ago. We got there at about 6:45PM on a weekday and boy, did it fill up quick! The inside is quaint and nicely decorated with different accents from various Asian countries. Our waitress was friendly, but did not seem to know how to answer some of my questions about the extensively large menu, which contains Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese cuisines. WHITE TUNA CARPACCIO ($10): 7-8 pieces of seared escolar on a bed of pickled vegetables and seaweed with fish eggs and a creamy sauce on top. This dish was interesting... the white tuna was good, but I was expecting more raw and thinner slices. The vegetables were not that tasty so I did not finish it. PHILADELPHIA HAND ROLL: standard; a little small IMO SPICY SCALLOP HAND ROLL: this roll was not very 'spicy' as the name implied, but the seaweed wrapping itself was pretty crispy; I liked the extra slivers of seaweed on top BEEF DRUNKEN NOODLES ($8): the flavor was there, but instead of using the traditional wide noodles, they used pad thai noodles (why?!) Overall, Sweet Ginger isn't bad, but it isn't all that great either. I feel as if the dishes are very Americanized. I'm not sure how it got so popular, but I will probably stick with Yama or Tachibana for my sushi needs! read more
Came here for a quick lunch before shopping at Tysons! Friendly service here and they have a variety of food in addition to their large selection of sushi! :) They also have lunch box specials for those lazy folks who doesn't want to think about what to order. I almost wanted to just go for that. For our visit, we got the Aged Dashi Tofu as starter. Not bad. I think there were about 5-6 cubes of tofu. Next, we also got the King Crab Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll and Spicy Scallop Roll. Love the spicy mayo sauce! LOL. All the rolls were tasty and flavorful, definitely had me wanting more. I just wish the King Crab Roll would have a little bit more crab meat in there. We didn't really taste the crab meat though the roll itself was delicious nonetheless. We'll probably come back again another time and try more of their sushi! :D Yum! read more
